  1. Exactly what did UND need to recruit after last year's class? Those other WCHA schools needed outstanding classes to replace their losses. This was a "fill needs" group for UND, not a wholesale restocking like 2005, and as such may not have the "marquee" factor of the others. Given that, sixth nationally looks pretty good. And ultimately, the final ranking of the incoming 2006 recruits will be made in April of 2010.
  2. Aren't both those family names familar?
  3. Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha ......
  4. Clearly you've never met Rick.
  5. BSC has the fourth highest enrollment in the state (UND, NDSU, Minot) and it's in a growing population center. There's a need to serve there through the existing two-year programs and the distance education programs from DSU, Minot, and UND (and they're doing it today, so they survive). At most I'd keep outreach offices for distance education (ala "UND Fargo") open in those (Williston, Devils Lake) towns. Notice I didn't say I'd get elected on this platform and implement it but would do it when I'm king for a day.
  6. When I'm king for a day, Williston, Bottineau, and Lake Region (Devils Lake) would go, as would Valley City and Mayville. NDSCS would also go because of reciprocity with MN and tech schools in TRF, Moorhead, and FFCC. We'd be left with Dickinson, Minot, NDSU, UND, and a tech school (and common outreach center for those other schools) in Bismarck.
  7. Reading that story it looks like both NDSU and UND have flattened out in terms of enrollments (plus/minus 1% is "margin of error" territory). I think we're seeing the direct effects of ND's declining HS aged population. Case in point: Look at Hillsboro HS's classes right now. From what I've been told the senior class is about 45; the junior class is about 25 and no class behind that is more than about 32. Hillsboro used to consistently have graduating class sizes well over 50. This tells me we, as a state, need to relook at the number of institutions in the ND University System.
  8. If UND gave Bollinger the kiss-off, he'd never be considered for the AD position. If Bollinger gave UND the kiss-off, why would he even consider coming back to UND? If the two separated amicably, a reunion is not impossible.
  9. They're in the Forum (sports, p3), not the GFH? If Harold Newman had a sign located just outside the Pearly Gates, and Satan himself asked to advertise Hells Condos on it, and Satan had the money Harold wanted to pay for that sign in that particular location, Harold Newman would put it up. Harold is first and foremost all about the Benjamins. PS - Didn't Harold Newman and Newman Sign donate much of the new Sioux Football signage in the Alerus Center?
  10. That was like fish in a barrel.
  11. First, we're far from there at this point. Second, I thought your vote was already in --> the "Fighting Halos".
  12. Oh, they enforce their moniker policy .... in the manner that makes them the most money, namely overlooking conference games in the Big Ten (Illini) and WCHA (Sioux). That's called righteously holding onto your principles (the foremost being money).
  13. So now you have to live in GF to have an opinion on UND Athletics and how it's run? Well, call in the bulldozers and knock down REA: Mr. Engelstad lived in Las Vegas, not GF.

  15. Wisconsin? Uh, don't they continue to have more than one organized chant that contains a wee bit of profanity?
  16. UND goes DI; USD (assumably) goes DI; UNO goes to MIAA; there's no conference left there to "merge". I see the remnants (SCSU, MSU, UMD, Augie) going to the NSIC. "Number of FB scholarships" is an easier conversation than "we don't have a conference at all". Wasn't there talk a while back that the DAC was trying to lure in an NSIC school (UM-C)?
  17. I'm surprised more was not made of ND State Board of Higher Education member Ritchie Smith telling Dr. Hart (president of NDSCS) that she should (paraphrased) get married. * Is this the role and responsibility of an ND SBoHE member? And is the very same Ritchie Smith that already has some, including the ND Attorney General, looking over his shoulder regarding the shove of former Chancellor Robert Potts toward the door? Why yes it is. Is this another attempt to shove someone out of the system by Smith (and anyone else he can't seem to remember he talked to and what they didn't talk about)? Who would gain what if this is a shove? Personally, I believe Dr. Hart needs the name of a good sexual harassment attorney and Smith should step down given the cloud of doubt and questionable judgement he's surrounded himself with. * Search Google for "NDSCS PRESIDENT: BOARD MEMBER SAID SHE NEEDS HUSBAND" for more information.
  18. (insert program item here) will make (insert program name here) a perenial powerhouse.
  19. Bison? Bison. It's what's for dinner!
  20. From the genie in his bottle of M/D 20-20 (and she lied to him).
  21. I'm sure phrases like: Montana State over Colorado, Chadron over Montana State, New Hampshire over Northwestern will abound as motivation this week in practice. However, this is what I most like to see:
  22. Yes, we had our "UNI" day. We should savor it. However, lest we forget the other side of the fence, and being the team that shouldn't lose. Dare I say "US International" (and in a championship season no less)? Winning as "the 'dog" is nice; wearing the target has its own enjoyable cachet as well.
