Sadly, market rate is going to go up no matter what. That's the constant. Consider it more bang for the buck. And instead of the MSU (can't manage a clock vs Concordia) Moorhead Dragons or UM-Crookston it'll be Alpo, er, I mean Valpo and such.

That's the norm. NDSU last year got and this year is getting a check from Minnesota. (This year that should be vice versa. ) UND got a check from UNI. Smaller budget teams will only walk into buzz-saws for a price.

Penn State must be really bad as they lost to Michigan, who lost to Appalachian State, who lost to Wofford. For some reason, it seems that the lines (FBS/FCS/top, very top DII) are blurring.

Since folks are into quoting me, and timelines, I'll follow suit and note I long, long ago said: Instead, the Herald was clued in to start digging really hard. How? By this site. The Herald has more than once said things about "internet sites" discussing the situation. Instead of a dismissal that could have been readily handled quietly, behind the scenes, by "mutual agreement" or some other polite phrasing in a news release, we now have a mess, a very public and unforgiving mess. And those on the "inside" could've smirked knowingly what "mutual agreement" really meant while the "unknowing" masses speculated if winter was too cold for a guy originally from Florida. As an added bonus we now have the "Buning letter" to Harmeson (it's a good read if your name is "Joe Chapman" and you need a laugh at your neighbor's expense). I'm sure it's being copied to eternity by some of UND's "friends". I'm guessing they'll be enclosing a copy to everyone on their Christmas card list. Dig around the NDUS site. There has to be a review procedure that solicits feedback from all interfaces with a particular job: supervisors, peers, and those who report to. (Every organization has some method to do that.) I'd be surprised if it hadn't always been there. It got used. The result was found under open records. And?

A little math here folks: - Harmeson is an attorney (as well as VP) and knows the law - Harmeson says he's legally prevented from discussing Buning's LoA - Buning is a public employee at a public institution in an open records state - Performance reviews of Buning are being made public by the press (as they are open record) - Yet, Harmeson maintains he can not discuss the matter at this time. So why can't Harmeson talk about why the LoA? Well, there are some employment related matters that can not be included in an open record (and thus public discussions). Paragraph 4 is the one that applies to NDUS employees. Curiouser and curiouser.

I saw it at 10:00. Given how that document had to be modified (to protect privacy per NDUS policy and ND law) how could anyone decipher who signed that? The signer block was covered! They flashed it on screen for a second and the key sentence highlighted (by WDAY) said something like (not sure on exact wording) "I request a leave of absence". Who else would "I" be? I'd like to see the document for longer than a flash on the screen.

My 2007-08 DI manual says the DI limits are 13 for men and 15 for women. UND runs at the DII limits (10 for men and 10 for women). There's a proposal in the NCAA right now to lower the DI womens number to 13 like mens.

Since you're all gettin' dreamy and greedy I'm going to join in: How about a horseshoe open-air dome .... what? Horseshoe, with a fixed roof. And a glass wall. (This is where Diggler and PCM chime in with "He's lost it this time for sure" but to them I say "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" ) On the site of Memorial, field running N/S, open end south, but the "open" end is really a giant glass wall with panels that can be opened or closed to suit the weather or season. To the south you'd put the outdoor track and practice field to look on to. The south glass wall would go from field level to the roof and look like the "glass wall" of Miller Park. Some panes would open for climate control. Above the opposite end you'd probably want a mirroring section to allow cross-ventillation north to south. You'd have all of the "feel" of outside, but none of the elements (unless you opened the windows). Benefit? In the winter you'd let in all of that sunshine and keep heating costs down for the university. You wouldn't have to pay for the retractable roof (sorry "star" ) and still feel "outdoors". You'd probably want to silver the glass to reflect most of the summer sun. Some of you probably are thinking this is a giant .... Green House, and as UND's home, it would be. Don't blame me: Y'all brought this upon yourselves with this this dreamy and greedy stuff. PS - Did I mention the skyway to the stadium from the new parking ramp on the east side of Columbia? Dream big.

Administrator: check. "Face-man" or fundraiser: check. The right decision is the one that's right for UND Athletics as an entity. I hope Ralston and Brekke would come to the same, right answer together (without having to go to the VP level).

Seeing someone mentioned that post of mine (from another thread), namely: The media reports lead to the conclusion that Buning requested the LoA. What that means I won't claim to know.

In my experiences, a LoA (when not directly requested by someone for personal or professional reasons) results from: "We're choosing to separate our employment relationship." "You're firing me?" "If you choose to look at it so abruptly, yes." "I've done nothing wrong. I'm going to sue you." "If that's your choice, fine, but if it is we're putting you on leave until the matter is resolved. Think it over." And it gets ugly from there. Do I know for sure what happened here? I'm not Tom Buning's physician, nor am I his boss.

I think your first sentence should say " ... hiring or firing ... "

Well, it's 1:00 pm on the day after that post. Where's the press conference so I can watch on the web? Or is it just an announcement from the University? Anyone have a link? Somebody, anybody, give me a public, on-the-record statement so this can go to bed. I have a hockey season to be more concerned with coming soon.
