  1. Uh, that says "not really" (if they mean the one designed by Ben Brien) and hence my post.
  2. Somebody hurt your feelings. So you must punish all of UND, not just the single source. And here I thought the earth rotated about an axis at the north pole. Silly me.
  3. Because they aren't in the Missouri Valley Conference. They're in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, called the Gateway Football Conference until recently.
  4. Folks: There are two issues here, namely the five-letter S-word, and the logo. The logo by itself is in violation of the NCAA policy. It's an "American Indian mascot". That has to go.
  5. The font (sharp, not block) and the overlapping (obvious and overt, instead of none) would seem to make that new and unique. On a jersey front I'd like to see it alone. I'd like it in the state outline on the shoulder patch. It'd look good up a flag pole too. Get me a good new logo to look at and I'll forget the folks at Spirit Lake and Standing Rock in no time. I'm not sure that's what the masses there want, but it sure seems that's what their tribal councils want.
  6. The question (and I'm not an intellectual property attorney) would be this: Is the new interlocked logo distinct enough that it is a new and unique entity and thus wouldn't have the need for extra words by it.
  7. Look up the state motto of Minnesota and then ask if that's a good moniker.
  8. If you have the interlocking ND you have to have North Dakota with it. Per http://www.universityrelations.und.edu/web...northdakota.pdf I believe that's why the 2008-09 hockey shoulder patch had the five-letter S-word on it.
  9. If it has no impact, why do you bother?
  10. I can't let you play this one both ways: You can't claim this impacts the Sioux people's culture (name does harm to Sioux people is claim) and yet claim it shouldn't have been put to a vote. Pick one and stick to it please.
  11. I can get away with this because I've said it before: If a program isn't self-supporting fiscally it shouldn't exist at a public academic institution (college or high school). New football helmet or new math textbooks should never be an either/or question. Commence hatin' on me at will.
  12. OK octo, you're saying the interlocked ND on the football helmets. That works as a logo. But is that a "transition to a new nickname and logo"? I'm worried that some NCAA legal word-weasel will claim even that is retroactively associated with "Sioux" and back on the NCAA 'naughty' list goes UND. Am I fretting too much? Maybe, but we're down the rabbit hole and who knows how things work here.
  13. Folks that believe "no nickname" is the way to go, I have a question for you. How are you going to reconcile that with the settlement agreement, page 5, section 2d: Specifically, I'll maybe buy into the argument that "no nickname" is a nickname. However, how in the world do you claim no logo is a logo? Are you going to put a little "TM" symbol in the bottom left corner of a blank sheet of paper and call that your logo? Portrait or landscape? PS - Apologies to "Goon" for quoting him from another thread, but his was a good post to use to represent the point of view.
  14. What can be done with that logo is covered by the NCAA/State of ND agreement, page 8, item j. Don't think that some attorney didn't think of that before you.
  15. Folks, this is the best post I've seen yet. Thinking about what Shaft said on KNOX, a lot of public officials seem to have talked about various things at various times with various folks. I sure hope no open meetings laws were violated along the way.
  16. Listening to Grant Shaft on KNOX Radio. His spin ... State Board did this to spur along the tribes. Spirit Lake vote is not binding on Spirit Lake Tribal Council. October 1 deadline allows for: - Spirit Lake actions - Standing Rock referendum (hopefully on July 15 ballot) - resolutions from tribal councils - application to Summit League Shaft claims to be a nickname supporter, but voted as part of the 8-0. - says voted to make concensus vote (as an aside, geez, I hate that notion that 8-0 is better than 7-1 or 6-2 on a P/F vote) - claims there was possibility that it could have been changed May 14, not October 1 Of the 8 board members, 4 graduated from UND, and Espegard is a UND supporter and GF resident. - he claims much alumni thought was put into this - "there was some thought behind the action" Q: Who pays to refit REA? A: Nothing has to be done to REA; however, if they want to host NCAA tournaments ... settlement with NCAA defines that A: "UND would have to pick that up." " ... we can't just let this single issue drive all of the university's athletics ... " " ... loss of Summit League opportunity would be devastating ... " " ... have to bleed green across the board ... " Q: Why did Summit drive the end of this issue? A: " ... my view driven by view of Athletic Department ... " A: UND AD and President told (Shaft) they need Summit League. Claims this is better than case where it could have been gone yesterday or at June meeting. Claims SBoHE dug deeper into this than most topics. Claims board has worked closely with UND, alumni, and REA to satisfy all partners. Claims other option would be do nothing (and risk Summit League). Q: Does Summit accomodate all other sports but hockey? A: Not football. A: Claims Summit is "advantagous" to try to get into Missouri Valley for FB Q: Is UND guaranteed into Summit? A: No. No quid pro quo. A: Claims Summit has talked with SCSU about "campus disruptions" when UND comes to town (sidebar: Allow me to puke here)
  17. Fil-thy Bas-tards, clap, clap, clap-clap-clap, Fil-thy Bas-tards, clap, clap, clap-clap-clap,
  18. Another thesis on not passing the logic test.
  19. Folks, look out ...
  20. You batting average isn't always the best, but I hope you're sitting on this slider and rip it.
  21. There's a reason Hastings appeared as the first name on my list. Economy is bad; no school wants to buy out a contract; Lucia is safe until the clock runs out on his deal. If Schroeder goes, gone are the two threats Minnesota had this year that could generate their own chances.
  22. UConn and American International were already booked. http://www.mratings.com/rate.php?lg=ch
  23. Golly I love trading valuable quantities for "maybes" ... Maybe the Summit League. Maybe a football game in half a decade. You should PM your credit card numbers to me and maybe I won't post them on the internet.
  24. I said it on USCHO. I'll say it here. We traded "Sioux" for the "Summit League" ... maybe. That really is a great advance for UND Hock... This is a major coup and upgrade for UND Footb... At least UND's red-ink sports maybe have a league to play in now.
