They used plywood to flatten it as good as possible, but isn't a perfect solution. That's why there were problems. exactly, they had to use all that plywood to flatten it and the zamboni was making those indentions on the ice that they had to keep repairing. it was a fun game to watch and fair as both teams had to play in this crazy outdoor conditions. Here's a great site to look at old NHL uni's. http://www.nhluniforms.com/ Pitts original colors were blue and white, but the Penguin/triangle logo didn't appear on the sweater untill their second season, 68-69.
