moser53 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 http://youtube.com/watch?v=4Y4UK8SCByI listening to Mac Talk today on KNOX he had this Junior Walker and The All Stars classic, What does it take, as his bumper music. This song never gets old never gets boring. Makes me think back to being parked in the country with my girl friend. The only lights on were from the dash board. That was 39 years ago boy does time fly. Quote
moser53 Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Newsweek Feb. 2005 President Bush was asked what his favorite song was. He said George Bakers' Little Green Bag'. Can't you picture George Bush with that Little Green Bag in 1969 the year the song came out. George Baker born Dec. 1944 in Hoon Netherlands. Quentin Tarantino used the song in his movie Reservoir Dogs. This link has Tarantino with George in 2008. Great Song. Live Long George Baker. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xRNJmgPO9M Quote
moser53 Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I am a big fan of Quentin Tarantio. They say his real genius is the choice of actors he casts for his movies. Jackie Brown is one of those movies. Just watched it again. Robert Deniro, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Tucker and Pam Grier, alot of woman there. I love that 70's psychedelic soul sound. Strawberry Letter #23 by the Brothers Johnson is one of those in this movie. But that's just me. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWa5w6enUgV&NR=1 Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Tucker funny stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbxUtFDKz8k Strawberry Letter #23 Quote
Shawn-O Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Great stuff with the Bros. Johnson and George Baker, very solid. Here's the original version of "Little Green Bag". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L1hD5OlPtw Quote
moser53 Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Great stuff with the Bros. Johnson and George Baker, very solid. Here's the original version of "Little Green Bag". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L1hD5OlPtw Thanks Shawn-O. Shawn-O That's a catche name. Kind of like in the movie Jackie Brown. Ordells [ Samuel L Jackson } lawyer is called Stassen Gowens. Great name for a lawyer. Ordell says he meaner than a junk yard dog. That's what the Sioux football team needs on defense. Some junk yard dogs. I'm working on some songs. There's only about a million to choose from. I'm trying to keep it solid as you would say. Quote

moser53 Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Sidney Poitier won an Oscar for best actor in 1964 for his role in Lillies of the field. He was the 1st Black man to win one. He maybe best known for his role in Guess Who's Coming To Dinner the interracial thing with Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. I liked his movie To Sir With Love which came out in 1967. In that movie LuLu sings that classic. LuLu looks pretty good 40 years later. This song has a great beat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIal_bR9gHY LuLu - To Sir With Love Quote
Shawn-O Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 It doesn't get any better than 70's lite pop. Here's two of my faves, but the list could go on forever... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn-enjcgV1o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K48LeQjmHPA...feature=related Quote

Shawn-O Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 The ball is in your court Shawn-o Let's stay with the 70's. My favorite Doobie Brothers song...and often forgotten. Even better live. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksQ8F560WJA...feature=related Quote
dagies Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Moser53 and Shawn-O, you guys are bringing up some all-time great 70's light rock stuff. Beautiful! But Shawn-O, if you're going Doobie Brothers, I have to go early pre-Michael McDonald. That was still good stuff, but not as good to me as the early stuff. I couldn't find an acceptable youtube vid of South City Midnight Lady, but I did find a decent recent live version of Black Water. For a great accoustic instrumental cover of South City Midnight Lady, try this.. Quote
dagies Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I hope you guys don't mind me playing along but here's a song that's never failed to bring a smile to my face from Brewer and Shipley: One Toke Over the Line I found one recent live version where they introduce the song by saying it was covered by Lawrence Welk, and then many years later by the Grateful Dead. Lo and behold, they weren't kidding! Quote

Lo and behold, they weren't kidding! Don't mind you playing at all, please continue to stop by! I plan on keeping this thread living all summer (even if I end up talking to myself, which is highly likely). Welcome to Shawn-O's 70's A to Z! "A" was for Ace, "How Long" (see prior posts). Moving to the B's, this was a tough letter, lot's to pick from. I going with Blood Sweat & Tears. David Clayton-Thomas, one of the all-time great voices in rock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV5ODj2UPFw Quote

dagies Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Nice! I'm trying to stay away from the classic rock standards, that makes it a little more challenging and interesting. Looking for some of that delicious light rock, you've already brought up Dan Fogelberg, so he's DQ'd. Had a few good options, but lacking another Fogelberg-esque idea, I'm going to pay homage to a classic rock god-song: Do You Feel Like I Do? Quote
