ScottM
Even though he's not Nikki Coleman, Dougie Grow, makes another case for tone-deaf, post-60s political correctness. Linky Pics of the subject matter may become required.
The Sicatoka
Someone needs to tell these folks: "how you'd like the world to be" != "realities of the world"
IowaBison
Lori Peterson who is quoted at the bottom of the story stated that the burning of a turtle by some teenagers was an act worse than gang rape and that all involved should receive the death penalty. I'm not a Hooter's fan, but if it pisses a woman like that off, I'm all for it.
Diggler
Lori should try her plan as I'm sure she thinks it will offend a whole bunch of people. Then when no one gives a flying &*(^ and instead just laughs at her for being such a moron, she can whine about how sexist the world is or something else completely assinine. A few years ago when Mpls did a BBQ fest in downtown, Peterson rented a spot for her "animal rights" crusade and then biatched about being next to trailers that were barbecuing ribs. Her yellow pages ad featured her in a fairly unprofessional, well for most "feminist" lawyers, pose that would probably entitle her to a job at Hooters. dagies
I can see where Grow is coming from, but from a different perspective. It's getting harder and harder to find affordable, unique food or mom & pop restaurants in Minneapolis. Not that it's not possible, but the trend is to chain restaurants while I feel the culture of the city is improved when you have one-of-a-kind types, and more of them. If you are outside of Mpls/St. Paul proper it's even harder to find anything that's not a chain. How boring is that? If you've ever been to Boston, you know what I mean. I realize we could never be a Boston in that sense, but I'd rather be closer to Boston, than the leading chain restaurant market in the country. ScottM
I think that's Dougie Grow on the right ... I think the key element is "affordable". Mpls has always had trendy, new eateries. However, with the closure of Peters, Goodfellows, The Keys, etc., there's always room for newer places. As a practical matter, around DT, the only chains seem to be centered around Block E and Target Center. Regardless of what the city council would like to think, the suburbanites who go to Target Center for a game, concert, etc., probably won't venture too far east of Hennepin, so chains will concentrate around there and rake in cash. redwing77
At least she's sticking with the stereotypes and wearing Birkenstocks. She needs to take a nap and get some sun. *shudder* I was thinking about emotional scarring at a young age... something along the lines of "These girls are all prettier than me and their flaunting their bodies is harming my self esteem. Ergo (Us nerdy types can use that word in a sentence!), if I'm being harmed because my self esteem can't handle the fact that there are people who are more beautiful and less inhibited than I, then those girls are obviously being opressed by men and sex!" It's called gender feminism. If there is a problem in the world, men are behind it. If it weren't for men there wouldn't be a need for sex. And if there wasn't a need for sex then the porn industry wouldn't exist and all crime would be minimized to the petty acts of stealing Mabeline products at your local Walgreens." By the way, gender feminism isn't a made up term. It actually exists. If you need examples, Lori is one of those types, but a woman by the name of Andrea Dworkin is a better example.
