MafiaMan
Hahah thats so classic. I wonder why he didnt do the jersey pop after they lost to HC at the Ralph? I wondered that myself...especially since I yelled loud enough for him to hear after the HC game "where's the jersey pop now, Danny?". redwing77
or D) bounce around with the Houston club for a couple years and move back to Fargo to work at Scheels in the mall. That's not fair. What I think will be: E) Sign with the team, get 3 games in the NHL and then spend the rest of his contract in Houston where he'll be allowed to walk. He'll then get signed by another team, make the NHL, and score his only NHL goals vs. the Wild

mikejm
D) Becomes an assistant to the high school hockey equipment manager at Fargo North That's more than just a little harsh. Danny is a talented kid, and will play in the NHL. I don't know if he'll leave school this week or decide to come back next year. But I'm pretty confident that he'll make the show at some point. Runninwiththedogs
Voters probably felt Potulny needed to spend more time working in other areas of the rink and not just the left circle waiting for a pass. He was completely neutralized when HC shut down that passing lane. How do you feel about missing the final 3 this year, after watching your teammate win the Hobey last year over you? Go ahead, dislike Irmen, but he works his tail off, plays physical, and can produce points. I'm sure he'll be able to play regularly in the NHL within a couple of years. MafiaMan
In all seriousness, I was a bit surprised that Ryan Potulny wasn't selected as a finalist for the Hobey Baker award. If he and Danny Irmen both go on to good NHL careers, I say good for them. It's unfortunate, though, that college hockey continues to become the new feeder system for the NHL. It's become as bad as college basketball in that respect.
NDFlyer
I don't see it as a bad thing. When colleges recruit blue chip players they are fully aware of what is in store for them 2-3 years down the road. Not sure that I'd call it the "new" feeder system, though. College hockey players have some raher stiff competition for NHL spots from the usual suspects: CHL and Euro leagues. The top players are going to set their sights on the NHL regardless of where the play prior to signing a pro contract and then make the jump when they feel it is the proper time. It's hard to discourage a kid from pursuing their dream.

specifics
or D) bounce around with the Houston club for a couple years and move back to Fargo to work at Scheels in the mall. Funny. The Wild obviously enjoyed the jersey pop, don't you think? The look on the Sioux fans student section faces was priceless. Love it or hate it, Irmen dominated every time he stepped on the ice, especially against the Sioux. That's why it hurts so bad for you to see him succeed. You know what is really hilarious. If Danny signs, and then did move back to Fargo to work at Scheels, he still would have made more money in 3 years than you would have in your entire life. Well that's life huh? Congratulations Ryan Goodluck Danny!

jloos
EVERY time he stepped on the ice? That's quite a bold statement. Specifics just crawled up from the high school thread. Kind of like the cocky 11 year old who thinks he should be sitting at the adult table for Thanksgiving dinner. Just say "no specifics - back to the kiddie table, at least until you know what in the hell you're talking about". I hope Potulny and Irmen make it in the NHL, it would be good for ND hockey. Both have the potential to be regular NHL players. Neither has the foot speed to be a star in the NHL, but if they make some adjustments they could be good 3rd line checkers. Potulny may be able to make a career as a PP specialist, but I think he is going to have to adjust his game and play more defense. Irmen has done well against the Sioux, nobody can deny that, but very few college players have ever "dominated" every time they are on the ice. Irmen is not one of those players.
