PCM Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 I was hoping, in spite of his sweater color, that a North Dakotan could win the Hobey. So was I. I'm rather surprised that Potulny wasn't one of the three finalists.
MafiaMan Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Obviously the committee felt that Jeff Panzer was slighted in 2001 and all the members voted against Potulny this year to even things up.
Sioux-cia Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 2/3 WCHA guys. Too bad for Ryan, this was his last chance. Yeah, I know he's only a Junior but with the talent we have, he no longe has any chance at the Hobey.
WPoS Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 As I stated in the other thread, IMHO, they HAD to put a different player in there so they wouldn't have an all WCHA hat trick... W
Sterling Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Voters probably felt Potulny needed to spend more time working in other areas of the rink and not just the left circle waiting for a pass. He was completely neutralized when HC shut down that passing lane.

Sioux-cia Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Did some specific Gopher fan hack your password? (You know, I am competing with PCM for the DumbA$$ trophy but I really don't get it?)

He was completely neutralized when HC shut down that passing lane. Not sure if that's the fairest assessment, as Potulny really improved in all areas of his game over the course of the season. He played a lot of penalty kill, was a force on the power play (obviously), and played great 5-on-5 hockey. Too bad he's not a finalist, but you can't really argue with the 3 guys up there. Looks like Carle is going to win, which probably would have happened had Potulny been a Hat Trick finalist anyway. I have no problem with that.
MafiaMan Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 And Potulny is now a pro. Yep...it was just posted on gophersports.com.

I agree his overall game has improved but it's still a rather fair assessment. Thanks to FSN we've all gotten to see this truth exhibited over and over except when Mn goes to AA. You'd really be convinced if those games were on TV!
Sterling Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Hmnnn...someone was watching the same St Cloud State game that I was a few weeks ago, huh? You are correct. I had to watch because I made the same claim to a Gopher buddy of mine and he claimed Ryan scored from all over the place against St. Cloud (which he did not).
siouxnami Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 In defense of their picks, Potulny has a poor GPA (2.4) in a weak major. He is not a good student and that is a portion of what the award stands for. Congrats on his pro contract. I still think Carle should win it.
sioux7>5 Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Yep...it was just posted on gophersports.com. Does anyone know if Irmen is next? I was thinking that he would have signed by now.
siouxtatoo42 Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Does anyone know if Irmen is next? I was thinking that he would have signed by now. he was waiting on Ry Ry's decision before he followed him to the AHL.
siouxtatoo42 Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 he was waiting on Ry Ry's decision before he followed him to the AHL. speaking of Danny Boy, there is a poll on the wild homepage asking fans what they would like to see him do.
MafiaMan Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 speaking of Danny Boy, there is a poll on the wild homepage asking fans what they would like to see him do. I only saw the choices: A) sign with the Wild and B) return to school. What about C) Do the jersey pop one more time for old time's sake?
