Not sure what the Notre Dame AD’s beef is here. Miami is a football member, ND is not. End of discussion. You want advocacy, join a conference.  

I think the beef is that Notre Dame has basically stabilized the ACC for the last decade so pushing them away has consequences (very plausibly complete implosion). Clemson must have an inkling that ND is getting tired of dealing with the ACC, would explain their twelve game series the two signed earlier this year.

The collapse has been ongoing for years and people have just been going through the motions. Once the 4-team playoff started, it started dying. When McCaffrey sat out the bowl game people squealed about quitting on the team, it started dying more. Now, its just common knowledge that even projected day 2 and day 3 guys may not play because they don't want to get hurt in an exhibition game. Every year when SEC teams lose bowl games, the narrative is "well they just didn't care." Tons of guys are announcing intention to transfer now.

Now that there is a playoff, teams who had legit aspirations of making it to the playoff are not going to want to play. Its like going to the NIT or one of the other consolation tournaments in basketball. Notre Dame (and others) are just acknowledging that the games don't matter anymore and they are not going to pretend otherwise. The NCAA would do well to just let teams sit at home and have a couple weeks of practice if they want.

disagree....ask a kid that's been a backup to a stud for 3 years if he wants one game with the lsu tiger on his chest versus anyone on a beautiful saturday eve in the south....95% of the players of any team would say yes...it's the !@#!$! admin's that think they know better

i get that...if 10 guys don't want to play bc of a big payday...what about the other 100 guys that piss fire and are looking at being truck drivers or accountants and have no future of playing but wanna play some college ball in the superdome...just once?

The debate should have been Miami and Bama as Bama never should have jumped ND last week and then not moving down after a dismal performance against Georgia.   BYU got moved down for a dismal display against Texas Tech but Bama evidently is immune to being moved down.

In 2023, Florida State had twenty plus players opt out of their bowl game after an undefeated season. Most of them werent starters. It seems petty clear this is probably going to be a thing moving forward.
