choyt3
What was the deal after the game? One of yours was getting an "escort" throughout the REA by some of Grand Forks' finest. Some rumors about a "bad" American Express card being used in the Pro Shop were swirling later. Not sure if these were even related, though. The UMD PB guy looked like he could have gotten popped under his eye. Hope that didn't happen at the game. I've been a fan in an "away" arena before and hope that people are acting like adults towards you guys. It isn't that way everywhere you go. MinnesotaNorthStar
Not sure what happened there. I didn't hear anything about it. Though, I have to say, DHG, the Spongebob costume tonight...TFF
beersong
Friday night after the game Sioux fans were beaking us really hard. And most of it wasn't good-natured fun either. We chose to reply back that maybe everyone should just leave, it's just a hockey game, let's go booze, etc. etc... Well one Sioux fan wouldn't let it be and got in one of our guys' face. The cops were standing right there, and immediately stepped between them. The idiot Sioux fan takes a SWING at our guy, WITH the cop in between them. The punch did connect and the Sioux fan made himself a long night. He was arrested, and booked for assault, and enjoyed a night in the Grand Forks County jail. Pretty unfortunate incident. I don't know anything about the credit card thing - that wasn't our people. Usually when hockey fans travel they say that there were a few idiot fans for the home team, but overall the people were nice. I'd have to say the opposite was true this weekend. There were a few nice people we had the pleasure to meet (Diggler, Todd16, morley from this board), but overall the people in Grand Forks complete jerks that couldn't separate the hockey game from the rest of the evening. What happens on the ice, stays on the ice. We like to go out regardless and enjoy talking/drinking with the other team's fans. It was not enjoyable this weekend. (Obviously, the outcomes of the games had some impact on that as well.) I know there are good people in Grand Forks, just wish you guys could control the others. If a$$holes could fly, Grand Forks would be one, huge airport.
Fighting Sioux Fan
Is this yet another one of those My team lost so I am going to blame it on [naughty] UND fans? It seems to be the latest fad. I don't see it happen where I am sitting...

I don't see it happen where I am sitting... No. Sorry if it came off that way. That one fan that punched our guy is the only one that was out of hand at the Ralph. Overall, people there just made comments and let it be, and that is what is supposed to happen. Most of the bad experiences came after the games, out on the town where we couldn't go 2 minutes without people harrassing us and threatening us physically. We can take the heat, so it wasn't that big of a deal. We've never had problems in any other town in the WCHA and usually have a good time with them after the games. Again, I know most of the people that post here are not the bad apples, so don't take it that way.
Diggler
Not from beersong. He tells the truth. I do have to admit that I was planning on punching DHG in the nose though when I met him. But then I remembered that he would probably eat me.
forecheck
Beersong, that's too bad. Maybe if you had a chance to sit in the lower bowl your experience would have been different? I've been in the upper bowl before, and it seems like some fans up there are more interested in drinking than the hockey game, which doesn't always lead to the best judgment. I did meet one guy from your group on Friday night at Sugars. I think he was lost. I talked to him for a few minutes, but I didn't catch a name, or if I did I can't remember it due to all the drinks some old guy from Providence was buying me. Hope I wasn't too hard on him. Fighting Sioux Fan
The guy that threw the punch got what he definitely deserved! As for the people out on the town, I am sorry. I am all up for a little heckling, but taking it too far is unacceptable! It is too bad that they had to make you have a bad time. Who is DHG? I hear about this person but I do not (think) that I know who he/she/ it is...
Diggler
You don't want to know who DHG is. It will only lead to nightmares. I'm still trying to recover from seeing him take his shirt off. *shiver*

Fighting Sioux Fan
I did not see Spongebob in the top row, thankfully be the posts I have read about him! sioux fan in phoenix
If a$$holes could fly, Grand Forks would be one, huge airport. Very funny I would have expected rude behavior after a Sioux loss but not after they win. What's up with that? Oh well, glad you had a good time anyway despite a few hooligans. Goon
I highly doubt what some of these fans are saying, it sounds like UNAfan2003's little tirade he had last weekend and continued into this weekend. I actually think the Students this year have been very well behaved, no major incidents and they have made some great signs... This weekend I had just walked into the REA when I had a fan from UMD tell me that the Sioux sucked. I laughed and him and told him whatever makes you feel well. Then walking out of the arena last night some goofy Gophers fans were talking about how the Gophers were going to rise out of the ashes and win it all. I told him that he should keep on smoking that pipe. Whew... Is it me or am I seeing a lot of UofM fans at REA this year?
mksioux
I'm sure the UMD fans were completely innocent and blameless. Grand Forks is full of a$$holes and Duluth is full of saints, blah blah blah. I guarantee that nobody at the Ralph is going to take swings at someone solely because of their team affiliation. And while I don't know them personally, I do know that the penalty box guys are not shy and love to talk smack to opposing fans. When you do that, sooner or later someone is going to take exception to something you say and things are going to get out of hand. I'm sure the UND guy was not blameless, but you know what they say -- there are 3 sides to every story...
Diggler
The Penalty Box guys most likely didn't try to start a fight or anything if for only one reason. They would never do anything that would jepoardize their drinking time.

They would never do anything that would jepoardize their drinking time. I've never met this "legendary" group of fans. I suppose they would disband if alcohol wasn't a part of their core beliefs: just can't imagine anyone would want to be sober while following the Bulldogs year after year

I actually think the Students this year have been very well behaved, no major incidents and they have made some great signs... Nowhere did I say it was a student. He was probably 30-35 years old. And maybe you should read my post again. I said there was just the one incident at the Ralph. The people at the Ralph were great except for the one idiot. "I do know that the penalty box guys are not shy and love to talk smack to opposing fans." You are correct. We also do not punch people because they say our team sucks, we are ugly, etc., etc... I didn't start this thread, so don't get all upset with me. The thread starter asked about the incident with one of our fans and I responded. If you question the validity of my statement on the said incident, ask the friendly Ralph cops, or check the police reports from Friday night. Oh well, glad you had a good time anyway despite a few hooligans. I have to agree. I get sour (not nearly that caliber) after a Sioux loss, but not a win. After a win, I just look at the "losers" and smirk. I love meeting people from all over the WCHA/nation/etc, and its a shame that I couldn't meet any of you UMD folks. It's unfortunate what happened, but what do you expect from the state with the most underage drinking in the nation. After reading what you said...sometimes middle age fans can be drunken idiots too...I guess Hopefully when I make my trip to Duluth (my first ever, eventhough I grew up in MN) I can meet some good people, and you guys can show me what classy home fans act like after a loss. Your a real douche you know that. You are totally of base. Making fun of people, telling them they suck is not the gripe you jackass. Read the thread better. Each one of us got offered to fight someone at least a half dozen times. The talking is fun, and we all said to these people, CAN WE GO DRINK AND HAVE A GOOD TIME NOW. I DID NOT SPEND $300 ON A WEEKEND OF HOCKEY TO HAVE A BAD TIME. And they all wanted to fight. What the f$%k is up with the fighting. HUGS NOT DRUGS. MinnesotaNorthStar
I'm going to have to agree with the Penalty Box here. You can harass opposing fans without being a complete jacka$$ (you can still be a jacka$$...just not a complete one ). When I went to the DECC a few years ago for the Duluth series, we lost on Friday night. On the way out there was some jawing between us and some Duluth fans, but that was it...it was "friendly" banter, no one ever wanted to go out and start a fight. It stopped the next night when Rory McMahon pummeled someone and we won, getting the split. Penalty Box...It's too bad you guys had that experience here, most of us aren't like that. Like I've seen you guys remark on many occasions...it's just a game, afterwards were all just drunk hockey fans.
