BIGSIOUX
There were different types; some were flakey like pastry and some were from a raised (yeast) dough. Different families made them in different ways. I went to a Catholic all girls HS in the neighborhood and all the nuns except two were Polish. We made them in Home Ec class and we made them with a yeast risen dough which was sweet. I never made them out of the class-room. My grandmother, a german, made/makes a pastry called plajenda. Her's is filled w/ pumpkin. Most delicious when out of the oven! Mom's don't hold a candle to em.

xI Hammer Ix
Not sure how it would fly in GF, but I wouldn't mind seeing The Melting Pot. Exactly me thoughts. I ate at one in Birmingham. Loved it, just a little spendy for Grand Forks I think.

ticklethetwine
Not sure how it would fly in GF, but I wouldn't mind seeing The Melting Pot. This place is great. I ate at the one in St. Louis and Minneapolis. Who doesn't like fondue!
