GeauxSioux
How many schools can boast the following all in one year?? Coach of the NBA Champions. Phil Jackson NHL Coach of the year. Dave Tippett Jonathon Toews. Olympic Champion, Captain of the NHL champions, Conn Smythe winner and will on the cover of NHL 11 Zach Parise. Silver medal in Olympics. and then you have the Lamoreaux sisters winning silver medals and bringing UND notoriety on the world stage of Womens hockey. Not a bad year for UND. Agreed, great year for our alumni and future alumni. I bet if everyone put their heads together we could come up with some accomplishments outside the realm of sports where alum have shined over the last 12 months also. Lets see what/who we can find. I'll start with Weston Dressler and the marvelous year he had in the CFL.

The Sicatoka
And Number 16 goes into the rafters ... "The NIFA championship is the equivalent to the NCAA Championships for athletics," said Bruce Smith, dean of the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences. 16 out of 26 ... that's pretty good. Big A HG
Jonathan Toews was also the top skater of the Olympics, and Zach Parise (along with Toews) were 2 of the 3 best forwards in the tournament. If you're going back all 24 months, don't forget Kristo/Blais' gold medal in the World Juniors. TJ Oshie also was a key member of the US team in the IIHF World Championships. Lets keep it in the past 12 months. Kristo and Blais for sure at the World Jrs. The U.S. team at the IIHF, not so much. They lost to Germany. Can we mention Kleinsasser playing for an NFC Championship?
siouxforeverbaby
Wasn't there another current UND student in the Olympics? On the curling team?
coach daddy
Wasn't there another current UND student in the Olympics? On the curling team? I don't believe at the Olympics. Maybe the World Championships the year before but I don't think there were any UND kids on the Olympic Curling teams.
GeauxSioux
Not a current UND student, an alum, Natalie Nicholson. Sica noted that during the Olympics.

My bad, I had no idea. The sad part is I didn't even think "ladies" curling. I was focused on the men only. Terrible.

mizzou/sioux
No question about it. This has been a tremendous year for former Sioux athletes. Kudos to them all and to the outstanding university than spawned them.

GeauxSioux
Add Espy winner Ben Jacobson to the list of accomplishments by current and former Sioux. Nice job Ben.
Let'sGoHawks!
I didn't watch, but heard Phil Jackson also won for coach of the year. Also, UND had arguably the 2 best players (Toews and Parise) in the game of the year, the USA v Canada Gold Medal game.
