siouxforeverbaby Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Joe Deal 8 year, $184 million extension. Quote
siouxfan27 Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Great news! After the confirmation today that Joe Nathan is out for the season, I think we all needed some good news. Thank you Joe Mauer and the Twins for finally making it official! Quote
Oxbow6 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 At least now he won't have to dig between the couch cushions trying to find change to pay the Jimmy John's delivery guy! That's some serious coin...$184M! Quote
Oxbow6 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 On side note with Nathan done for year....where do the Twins go for a closer?? Quote

soohockey15 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 On side note with Nathan done for year....where do the Twins go for a closer?? A combination of guys who match up the best with hitters in the late innings. I hate it when teams place guys in set roles and refuse to ever differ. They should use their best guy in the highest-leverage situation, and go from there. Quote
siouxforeverbaby Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 On side note with Nathan done for year....where do the Twins go for a closer?? Not sure, they had a list of five guys on the news yesterday after the Twins preseason game was on. Sorry, I can't recall who they were. Guerrier (sp?) was one of them, I know. That is one position that worries me a little with the upcoming season with Nathan out. I don't follow baseball enough to know that much, I just know a couple of the Twins players and Twins baseball. Big A HG Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I'm no Twins fan, but Mauer did something pretty great by signing this deal with the Twins. There were talks that if he wasn't set on playing for the Twins beyond this next season that the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets would have had a bidding war for him that would have gotten him somewhere in the 10 year/250 million dollar range. Mauer has a good head on his shoulders, and the Twins should be proud to have a great cornerstone for years to come. The only thing that concerns me is that the Twins hopefully didn't tie up too much money in him that would be better served for other players down the line if Mauer's play goes drastically downhill after a few years (catchers have a tougher time producing big numbers year after year after year...hence talks about moving him to first in the future). Either way, go Brioux Crioux! Quote
The Whistler Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Will he still be able to get food stamps? Quote

Either way, go Brioux Crioux! I for one am excited for the deal. I have it on good word from a Yankees scout who talked to him a few years back, that Mauer's childhood dream was to be the starting catcher for the Yankees. But what kid's dream was any different? It's good to see MIN spending money on a player who has earned and deserves every penny. Oh and thanks for taking Gomez off our roster, you know how much I'll miss him though hopefully JJ can produce for us. The twins should be Central Champs this year. I'm planning on going to Target Field for a few games with some friends this summer, you should come along! Quote
tho0505 Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Great news for the Twins. I just nervous this will cripple opportunities for spending some $$$ on solid free agents. With the new Target Field, I think this will bring in a lot more cash to be used on signings. I heard that the Metrodome was costly for both the Viks and Twins, has anyone heard different? Quote

I hate it when teams place guys in set roles and refuse to ever differ. They should use their best guy in the highest-leverage situation, and go from there. Exactly. That is the part about baseball that bothers me the most. If your up by a run in the 7th with bases loaded, why bring in you third best reliever? Thats when the closer should be out. That inning is the difference in the game. Not the 9th when there is nobody on. Quote

I'll be at Target Field for some Brewers/Twins action, and then you head out east here and enjoy some Brewers/Twins at our beloved Miller Park. Quote
