My guess is that Goon=Gopher Domination.

According to the Krach on this site AA is weaker than Niagara. Briggs was good enough to sweep in GF, he should be good enough to potentially sweep at home. While I would agree that the talent level of these two teams is even, the Gophers are playing better than the Sioux right now. I also see the inexperience on D hurting the Sioux as it did last month. So for this series I think the Gophers will take at least three points, with Ryan and Danny doing most of the damage. Regardless, it should be great hockey.

I don't think Gopher fans take anything for granted when we play the Sioux. For the most part the Sioux have had our number the last few years. Don't worry, your team will wake up. If they don't put it together tonight a series at Mariucci (with a Gopher sweep from last month still fresh in their minds) might be just what they need to fire them up. If the Sioux don't get at least three of the next six points I would be concerned. Then again, it's only January.

This game points out how valuable Oshie and Toews are as energy guys. I'm sure the Sioux will come out tonight with more effort, their ears may still be ringing. Thankfully it's only December, and while this loss hurts it's not a deathblow. Last year the Sioux didn't really ramp up until late, this year feels earily similar. Please beat Harvard tonight, please.

That's a DamOverreaction.

AZ, I don't always agree with your opinions but I enjoy your creative coloring. You kept them all between the lines too!

Once again a good thread, and a relevent topic has become unreadable. -
Where are PA and Dubay going to be Friday In Grand Forks?

When specifically referencing Goon it is "Duck" tape. -

I think he was kidnapped and Kahn implanted one of those porcupine(sp) mind-controlling babies through his ear. I knew Kahn was a gopher fan. Watched Wrath of Khan the other day, couldn't resist. Next thing you know Goon will be spelling out M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A. KHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Another example of Sioux hockey arrogance!

So do a lot of goalies. Too many from Minnesota in my opinion. I would be more encouraged if they announced Shep was trying a new set of contact lenses.

Since this has digressed into our favorite Sioux/Gopher moments my top 2 are: 1. Neal Broten's acrobatic game-winner (I believe, 12 yrs. old at the time) in the 1979 Championship game where he speeds up the left side, plays the puck around a pilon (sioux defender) and flips it over a diving goaltender (who inexplicably came out of the net) while getting cross-checked from behind. What that Iwabuchi (probably butchering the name)? 2. Keith Ballard ripping the jersey over the head of some Sioux player (I'm sure some of you know who) in his defensive zone(should have been called a penalty), joining the play and scoring the game-winner in overtime to knock the Sioux out of the playoffs. As I recall, the Sioux were having a down year. I could be wrong on the details of these memories, but they are perfect in my mind as I remember them.

Eh, could you explain that part that you said about the things again?

I won't say Briggs is great, but I do think he is a competent goalie who got hung out to dry by his defense Friday night. Two 2-on 1's and two breakaway's. While I don't think UND will get crushed, this weekends games will be highly competitive. Probably a split and great to watch. Didn't UND get swept at home against Bucky earlier this year? I believe with a combined score of 8-3. Hmmm....sounds familiar.

Last year at this time it was the Gophers that were playing solid hockey (including the D) and were #1 until around Jan 1st. A year ago the Sioux looked terrible and some on this board were calling for Hakstol's head. We all remember how that turned out. Denver had a mediocre start last year and they ended up pretty good. I would agree with your assessment that Bucky is the team to beat for now, but that can change in a hurry. Both the Gophers and UND are very young and very talented. By the end of the year they both will be tough outs in any tournament. Personally, I can't trust Bucky until they start winning in the post-season. That said, it's early and I think Bucky gets at least a split at Mecca next weekend. I hope I'm wrong.

I hope the Gophers can continue it next weekend!
-
o.k. I'm convinced now. Equally it is.

I don't know if UND is rated too high or not, this weekend may indicate one way or another. Regardless, I wouldn't use the Gophers as a measuring stick, they are definantley ranked too high. I don't think they deserve to be in the top 10. If UND fans want to rip the Gophers schedule (turnabout is fair play) you better get your digs in now. After this weekend 14 of the Gophers next 18 games are against UND, Wisco, CC, Denver, Michigan and Michigan State (who I here is pretty good this year) .

Uh, I thought this thread was about Wisconsin. I have had a general hatred of UW since they beat the Gophers in the Championship at the DECC in 81. The worst weekend of my life: the Gophers lose in the final as heavy favorites, my dad gives me "the sex talk"(I was in 7th grade), and a drunk Wisco fan pours his beer over my head at the buzzer. I have been back to the DECC twice since then, both times my high school hockey team lost in the section final. I am going back this weekend to try to exorcise those demons, it might get ugly for the Gophs. Regardless, I have watched multiple times Wisconsin fans cheering against the Gophers in the final five and at NCAA tournaments. While I can cheer for any WCHA team, and I do (including the Sioux), I could never cheer for Wisconsin. So this weekend I say: GO SIOUX!
-
I just mean he's equally critical.
-
I thinking ahead of cheers that match his last name. Is there anything that rhymes with Shevery that means sieve? Note to Goon: Briggs doesn't rhyme.
-
It doesn't "bother" him when a Gopher recruit is defensively lacking, does it?
-
Does anyone know how to pronounce Cheverie?
-
It didn't help the Gophers too much last year. I think your opinions are right on.
