I am confident, but also nervous at the same time.....if that makes any sense. The last two years we struggled at the beginning of the year, however this is the third year in Bubba's system so I think that will help us have a better start than the past two years and play more fundamentally sound football in the first couple of games than in the past. They do have home field advantage, but after wins at Wyoming and Portland St. going on the road doesn't worry as much as it did going into last year. Now....can we go on the road when we are favored, and beat a solid team....we'll find out. You could add that Cal Poly game last year to the list of really good road performances. I think we all still may have some leftover nervousness at times from Muss's regime when we had some really bad games on the road.

My gut is telling me that we are really going to get after things on defense, and their QB is going to have one of those games where he felt like he never had a chance.....there was always pressure or somebody in his face, sacks, knock downs etc.. Well that is my hope anyway.
-
It's definitely nice to know that should our offense sputter a bit this first game that SB offense plays right into our strength on defense. Let's make the QB nervous and make him through a pick.

The first game in college each year is always so interesting because you have guys that have graduated and new guys stepping in. Starting a year with a new/unproven QB and a new/unproven OL always make me the most nervous to see how they will do. We have the proven QB this year, we'll find out about the OL and they have a good test in SB. Fortunately they've had to practice against a really good DL. I'm sticking with my earlier prediction of 24-14 UND. I think with a healthy Clive and Santiago we'll be able to make enough offensive plays to score a few times, but it won't be easy. If they are all in the box Clive will get one deep, if they have to worry about Clive that will open up the running just enough for Santiago to get a seam. I would say 90% odds of a botched snap, just have to make sure it's not a turnover.

CSU just got that quality FCS loss that we all know is so important.
-
CSU is one dimensional, but they probably normally get 3-4 yards on those runs up the middle instead of nothing like they got yesterday. NDSU is tough up the middle, but it sounded like CSU had a lineman out for the game and they had to mix things up a little which certainly didn't help against a tough defensive front.

Ok if we are going to go in the neighborhood of 80's cheesiness (But not nearly as cheesy as Jessie's Girl) For 3rd down songs.....how about the bass line from Turn Me Loose (Loverboy)........or Turn Up the Radio....the part where the rhythm is building. For whom the Bell Tolls.....is always good....even though probably used by many. I did have to watch the full Jessie's Girl video though.....since it's been 30 years since I've seen it.

True, I think you are right and he said Pro football. Although I don't think I've ever heard an announcer say.....this kid is CFL or Arena league material, so I assumed he meant NFL. But he did say Pro so you are right....and being good enough to make the CFL isn't anything to be ashamed of!

Pretty bold statement from Mack Brown saying Stick will play in the NFL. So he is saying that Stick is better than 90-95% of the current FBS QB's? He may end up being a really good QB the next couple years, but to say already that he'll be playing in the NFL.....
-
I'd call it, not a very good game. This game doesn't feel like a Ravens - Steelers game that is 13-10 but still fun to watch. Just my opinion.
-
Yeah.....while not a very good game....at least it's close going into the 4th, wasn't expecting it to be. I would guess NDSU will pull it it out at home in the 4th....especially with some injuries on CSU's defense, which sounds like they aren't that deep. CSU would need a big play or two, they can't get anything up the middle on offense.
-
Yeah really ugly and boring game. Not even close to the opener with Montana and NDSU last year.....that was a fun game and a nice showcase for FCS. I guess we could say it's two really good defenses......we'll see.
-
Pretty boring game so far.

Thanks for thinking of us and taking the time to go to a UND site when you are about to play on ESPN. Good to know you are always thinking of us. But yeah....wrong site.
-
Cool.....thanks for the insight!

What type of speed does Cloyd have, anything comparable to JK?

I'm assuming these are the old jerseys from two years ago? I may try and order one by phone if that's an option, how are they as for sizing? I know the new jerseys are super tight, and even look pretty tight on the players without pads. The previous ones I don't think were as tight, but they also weren't like the old school ones that were kind of baggy either. I just wouldn't want it to be super tight even though I'm not a 'big' guy....6'0 190.

Yeah that was a really fun day! I was on a road trip with some friends and I remember following along on the game thread, and I can't remember who it was....but was giving great play by play details....man was I in a good mood that day. Such a feel good win in many ways........first FBS win, also it was a good road win as we hadn't been very good on the road the prior several years and this was the start of a turn around on that as we also beat Portland St. on the road too. Up until that win I was a bit skeptical on our road games. Also we got to beat Bohl and somewhat stick it to him for making Nevermann sit out an entire year, which as we all know worked out to our advantage since we discovered how good Santiago was at RB. Great win...and great day! Sorry for the rambling

That preview of the Wyoming game is freaking awesome.....looking back at how we controlled the game....and he thought they were going to blow us out. Yeah he's got his pulse right on things......not.
-
Are saying or agreeing it's going to be an upset if UND beats Stony Brook and Southern Utah this year?
-
It's going to be fun to see what kind of numbers Santiago puts up this year. However with other quality backs he may not get as many carries as some of the others. And last year there were one or two games where he had nearly 200 yards at halftime and then didn't see the field or ball much in the second half. I think he was 3rd in the FCS for all purpose yards right? If he would have played 4 quarters in all of those games that would of made a difference. It's also impressive considering our offense was complete crap for 6 quarters, two against Drake and then the NDSU game. I'm looking forward to lots of "So Long Santiago"!! That was a good phrase, but since Sweeney isn't doing the radio anymore.....do you think anybody else will pick up and use that phrase?
-
I had it UND 24-14 the other day on the thread, will change that slightly to 24-13 as I don't think we'll let them in the end zone twice.
-
Thanks for the report Teeder!

Oh ya that was the long pick 6 game. I don't think I was able to watch that game for whatever reason, could only listen. That is a good reminder of how stout they were on defense, although our offense those first few games of 2014 was fairly pathetic.

Nice, he did look pretty smooth on his tape. He definitely looks like he can be Keaton 2.0 in a couple of years.....glad we landed him!!
