Interesting take on the Big Sky preseasons rankings. After EWU, Montana, and Montana State dominating the conference for so long, it's nice to see some new blood toward the top. Although that means the top half of the conference are all pretty good, could easily see any of the top 6 teams in this preseason poll winning the conference championship. Last year was a pretty good shake up in the conference with Portland State and Southern Utah doing so well. Will the shake up continue this year.......or will EWU or Montana end back up at the top when it's all said and done? http://www.thespectrum.com/story/sports/2016/06/01/big-sky-football-nau-tops-spectrum-medias-preseason-poll/85266520/?hootPostID=9e10c40146d19af983a6db2eec20d1ce

It would certainly be huge if we could land a good WR, OL, and DB. If we did that and Grady comes back.....I'll be even more optimistic for the upcoming year. We'll just have to hope and pray that Studs doesn't get hurt.
-
That is cool to see, although I am a little surprised by it though just because we don't have total name recognition in the FCS yet. Last year we made some good strides going 7-4 and most feel we got a bum rap on the playoff selection but usually preseason polls are based a lot on name recognition and what you've done the past few years. It is nice to see that we are getting noticed though, and I guess it means we won't 'sneak' up on anybody this year.

That was cool reading how a lot of the Falcons fans loved his tape and hope they give him a shot at LB.

I agree, and especially now with Will gone he is one of the best players on the team, I just never realized he was that fast before. Sometimes only watching games on tv or video feed you don't get the true sense of some of the players, I miss that. My first thought was I was surprised, and thought it was unusual for a safety to be the third fastest player on a team, but maybe I'm wrong on that part. It's certainly a kudos to him, but also probably indicates we need a bit more speed in some of the other areas.

Here is the list for others to more easily see: Top 10 40's of '16 #DayByDay #NorthDakotaStrength Bollant Santiago Reyes Murray Harris Disterhaupt Palmborg Gordon Lawrence Rodgers They are more in a list format on his tweet, so I'm assuming they are in order of fastest first? No WR's in the top 10....no wonder why we say we need to improve in that area. Although I would think Clive would be on there, but maybe he didn't run or something for some reason? Surprised that Reyes is number 3.

They do talk a fair amount of football on that show during the season, but they talk other sports on there as well and only devote part of the show to football. There use to be a 30 minute football show that was solely a football show that showed more highlights, and talked more in depth about the upcoming matchup for the next week, had player specials on it It also had players of the week on the show for an interview.
-
I almost started a separate thread on having a Sioux football show a couple of weeks ago, asking why we no longer have one. In the 90's there was 30 minute Sioux football show every week during the season that would go through the highlights and then they'd bring a couple of players on as well. I didn't like it when the football coverage just got jammed into a part of the UND Extra thing since it was covering all sports and couldn't get as many highlights nor have players come on. I'm sure the players felt it was a nice privilege to be able to come on the show in recognition for having a nice game.

I get him wanting a trade, but if they decide not too........he signed a contract and is getting paid very well with that contract......time to strap it up and do your job. I get him positioning and being a whiny baby now to see if he can get out of it and get traded, but if they don't do it and he still sits and complains or sits out....then I think he is partially afraid of competing. I flew out to Philly yesterday for work this week.....so I've asked a few people about Wentz....to see if they are giving him a thumbs up or thumbs down, from just the couple I've heard from they seem ok with him. There weren't any haters from just the couple I talked too....I remember how bad McNabb got boo'd.....at least people didn't boo him when drafted, but I know there are some fans that weren't happy giving up all of those picks.

I think they want to recreate 2014 and try and make a strong Super Bowl run with Romo in his last couple years left. As a Cowboys fan I hope it works....we'll see. If they wouldn't have already picked up Morris I could have seen this more. Congrats to Carson, as a Cowboys fan he is once again playing for the 'other' team though.......so I won't be able to root for the ND kid too much

Let's go Will! Looks like he is thinking 6th or 7th round. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-football/4020253-und-football-ex-und-standout-awaits-nfl-draft

He looks like he'd be a good fit for us.......could be Studsrud 2.0 We definitely need to get a top quality QB recruit this next year. After this year and Keaton all we have are PWO QB's on our roster , Heidlebaugh was a PWO wasn't he, or was he scholarship? Not that a PWO can't turn into a stud. I am confident the staff will get this position some better depth and quality as we move into the future, but we seem to be walking a slippery slope right now with our current QB situation.

That wasn't mentioned, nor was anything negative mentioned until AFTER your Seriously? comment. If you wouldn't have posted that I highly doubt another thing would have been said about Joe.
-
I guess this is where anything UND-NDSU related people get their panties in a bunch way too quickly. So you took "If Joe Mays got a shot at LB there is no reason Ratelle shouldn't" as a dick head stab at Joe? I took that as him thinking they were both very good linebackers from smaller schools that were somewhat similar. If Geaux_Sioux was trying to imply in his initial comment that Joe wasn't good enough and didn't deserve it he would only come across looking kinda dumb in my opinion....because Joe did make a team and played in the league for while, so I don't believe he at all meant it as a rip on Joe. Joe was a very good linebacker, as is Will.
-
Actually if you go to the homepage and scroll to the bottom it says :SiouxSports.com is an online community for fans, media, families, participants, and friends of UND Fighting Sioux athletics." which you and several of the others are not. The creators probably never envisioned so many NDSU people to come on here and pipe up every time NDSU is mentioned (and often when they are not even mentioned) that they would need to create a screening process. Periodically posters from other schools come on and chime in, which I think generally most of us feel ok with. I doubt if Will was compared to a Montana player they would be jumping all over it trying to immediately disprove that the two are similar and calling us crazy. And it's funny, what started this was Geau_Sioux just staying Will should get a shot if Mays got a shot, which Bison06 even agrees they were similar coming out of college and similar situation with a smaller school. Walker Texas Rancher (an hour and a half later on a thread not related to NDSU) had to jump in with a Seriously comment acting like the two shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence. That is when people on our end poked that he was with 6 different teams etc.......kind of implying that he wasn't Ray Lewis or anything. We should be able to mention NDSU or an NDSU player without the NDSU superiority complex people having to jump in immediately. Anyway...back to the players. I'm glad the first round of the draft is now on Thursday nights!

I really like that grey helmet, even more than I thought I would. I think the black face mask looks good with it, the holes in the helmet are black so it almost makes the holes look like a black accent to go along with the black face mask. I think the white ND looks good on it too, I like it. A green ND could look good there too, but would have to see it to know if I'd actually like it better or not. I don't know if I would have been a fan of the grey uniforms, however after going to an ASU game and they had theirs on.....I thought it looked pretty cool. They might have went with the white ND on the helmet because maybe the numbers on the jerseys will be white and they will match. ASU had white helmets though to offset all of the grey on the pants and jerseys. I really liked the grey ASU jerseys....so if they do it right I think it can work....will have to see the final outcome with the helmets, jerseys, and pants all together to really know if they pulled it off. I know some say that grey isn't a UND school color........but I don't think black is either. Here is a link to those jerseys.... https://www.google.com/search?q=arizona+state+football+copper+jerseys&espv=2&biw=1366&bih=667&tbm=isch&imgil=u4JIhPS1XZBbIM%253A%253B5SUtGSwwA7nmtM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.statepress.com%25252Farticle%25252F2014%25252F08%25252Fasu-sun-devils-football-new-black-uniforms-jerseys-photos-video&source=iu&pf=m&fir=u4JIhPS1XZBbIM%253A%252C5SUtGSwwA7nmtM%252C_&usg=__Z2Py7oPnw_EJ4cIzuJy7p8xGmaA%3D&ved=0ahUKEwj8rLKR8K_MAhUK8WMKHXaCA2EQyjcIJw&ei=Yj4hV_zzJorijwP2hI6IBg#imgrc=u4JIhPS1XZBbIM%3A

So you admit that Joe and Will are somewhat similar, well at least in a similar position coming out of college then it looks like? Mr. Texas with his.....Seriously comment...when Geau_sioux said that Will should get the same chance that Joe had. Rancher said Seriously.........acting like they are in two different stratospheres coming out of college. Will is rated #14 for ILB.....maybe Joe was a lot higher I don't know (but I'm sure a Bison troll is scrambling this very minute to go find out). I don't think a Seriously comment was warranted......acting like we are dipsh*ts for thinking he should have as good of a chance or shot as Joe did coming out of college. Also you do know that a majority of NDSU trollers that come here can't get themselves to say anything good about UND or what any UND player has ever done right?
-
That could be, they could somehow be rating guys on some type of value scale as to how good they are compared to where the player is generally expected to get drafted at or something along those lines. Sounds like there is plenty of debate about his knee....some good some bad, maybe their take is the knee is not good.
-
Well that is what I was thinking too......but having Miles Jack as the 12th ILB on the list....when he will likely go top 10 overall....that just seems strange that there is such a difference in evaluation. However i know each team has certain types of players that fit their scheme the best etc......but I still thought that was a little odd. I guess time will tell how productive each ends up being in a few years! Patriots are obviously a successfull franchise......now if the Browns showed those same ratings.....well then I think we would question it even more
-
What am I missing on these rankings, they have Will at #2 and Miles Jack at #12 on this list.
-
It would certainly be nice to have a little more of a dynamic punt returner this year as long as he holds on to the ball. Also would be nice to not have Santiago have to return kicks as I'd rather save him for running behind the line than taking some potentially nasty special teams hits. Fortunately our RB position is deep this year but sure would hate to see him go down. Relating to injuries.....every time Keaton gets up with a hobble this year we'll likely see the season flash before our eyes for a second.
-
That is great to see. In initial talk it sounded like he would more likely be a free agent and be a fullback or special teams type player. 12 rating is pretty impressive....seems like a pretty good chance he'll get drafted and maybe an actual opportunity to play LB.
-
Hopefully it will be, that was a nice pass. It looks similar to the one at the 6:47 mark in the Cal Poly highlight video.
-
I would agree that overall we should be better. It obviously hurts to lose Will.....but our secondary should be better, we have three safeties this year in case there is an injury to one of them. All in all we should just have more experience and another year in the system under the belt for the returning guys. Hopefully that will all translate out onto the field on Saturdays, will be fun to watch. We'll find out in the second week how much our secondary has improved!
-
Fun watching those highlights.......35-0 at one point.....we completely dominated them at their place. They beat Montana and took Pac 12 ASU into the 4th quarter last year. Definitely have high hopes for this year. Grady coming back and the line coming together will be a big key to taking that next step. It still is a bit scary though that we are one injury away (Studsrud) from going backwards and being a 6-5 team. ESU isn't the dominant team at the top in the Big Sky anymore....it's not a top heavy league like it had been, a lot of balance and good teams which means we can't let up in any of our games.
