Someone has got to tell this guy that we don't need to see the zits on their faces. Pan out

Q: What do the student bodies at UND and NDSU both have in common? A: NDSU was their backup plan.

3 NCAA championships, 11 b1g championships, 1 Olympic gold medal, 4 time national coach of the year, 0 NCAA infractions, donated millions for a new library at UI, had a 80% graduation rate among his players when the national average is 42% in DI. Don't let a chair throw fool you. He is one of the most well respected men in NCAA/sports history.

If this game turns into a passing game then the advantage will be in UNDs favor for 3 simple reasons: Harden, Jackson, Galladay. Obviously, if UND is in a position to match up our WRs against anyone it gives us a better chance than any alternative. Do I think that the game will turn into a passing game? No, because I think the Jacks will have success running the ball against us. However, that doesn't change the fact that if UND has one positional advantage in the game it is without a doubt at the WR position.

In regards to the NDSU-UND contract offer. I can't speak for the last 3 months but I know for a fact that UND had an offer on the table for Taylor as of last year. As far as I know nothing has changed. It was waiting for Taylor acceptance. I don't know the exact details of the offer but I was told directly, "the offer is on Taylor's desk."

I don't see us winning all 4. Honestly, I'm still a bit skeptical for the simple fact that I don't think we have the talent on defense that is necessary to compete on that level. Yes, we are stellar at the receiver position. However, we have a couple of freshman, talented, but still freshman quarterbacks. We can put up 28 points a game but if we are giving up 30 its all for nothing. If I was a betting man I have us going 1-3 in the next 4. Just being objective and I hope I'm wrong but we are still a 2 years away from really competing at a high level in my honest opinion.

I was going to leave it alone after my facepalm comment but the absurdity is mind boggling. Lets see who NDSU would have to be better than in those conference. B1G- 12 teams; Herd says they finish top 4-5; means NDSU would have to be better than 2 or 3 of the following: Michigian, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Penn State, Michigan State or Nebraska. That also assumes that NDSU is better than the other 5 i didn't mention. Unlikely. Big 12- 10 teams; Herd says they finish top 5-6; means NDSU would have to be better than 2-3 of the following: Oklahoma State; Oklahoma, Texas, TCU, Baylor, West Virginia or Texas Tech. Also unlikely. SEC- 14 teams, Herd says they finish top 10; means NDSU would have to be better than 2-3 of the following: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas A&M or Vanderbilt. Beyond crazy. I mean seriously Herd. As I said, beating KSU is a big accomplishment there is no debating that. NDSU has a team that is far superior to anything UND has put out there thus far. But this "we could go to a bowl in these conferences" talk is ludicrous. "Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."

Totally agree, which is the point I was making. NDSU will never be able to compete on a consistent basis with the FBS power conferences. I do agree that they would be a good team in the second tier if DI went into 3 tiers. My pipe dream: 3 tier DI football Big Sky picks up NDSU SDSU and USD to form a 16 team conference. Break said conference into 2 divisions. East Division consists of Montana, Montana State, NDSU, UND, SDSU, USD, Idaho State and Northern Colorado. West division consists of Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Portland, Southern Utah, Weber State, Northern Arizona, Sac State and UC Davis. Something like that and move into the second tier.

Because you would have to recruit against the big boys. If I'm an elite top 300 national prospect and I have the opportunity to go play for Michigan do you really think that I'm going to pass that up to go play in Fargo, ND? My guess is you would get the same level of recruits that you currently have, you would just have more of them. There is a reason that the big conferences have been pushing to move to 3 levels of DI football. This isn't a knock on NDSU, I would damn near give my left nut for UND's football team to be in NDSU's position but the reality is that NDSU nor any other FCS team will ever be able to break into competing with those big boys on a consistent basis. 1 the talent level won't play and 2. those conferences simply won't let it happen.

Anyone know the defensive strengths of SDSU? How do our receivers match up against their secondary and how does our oline match up against their dline?
-
Well that depends on your perspective as to what a reasonably successful FBS team is. Do I think they could consistently compete in conferences such as the American Atlantic, Conference USA, Mid American or Sun Belt, probably. If they played in the Big10, Big 12, Pac 12 or SEC, not a chance. They would be maybe a 2-3 win team in the Big10 or Big 12 as it currently stands or a 1-2 win team in the Pac12. The SEC, they would get absolutely manhandled outside of maybe Vanderbilt or Kentucky and even those are long shots to be able to consistently beat. Don't get me wrong, Kansas State is a HUGE win and is something to be proud of if your an NDSU guy. However, if you are objective in your observations you have to look at Kansas State's team. Yes, they won the Big 12 last year, but this years team is no where near the level of last years team. They had 13 new starters and lost their Heisman candidate. NDSU is a 2 time defending FCS champion that return 18 starters. They had a pretty god chance of winning from the get go. Kansas State to me looked like a 3-5 win team this year, nowhere near a top third level team in the FBS this season. If they would play SEC teams week in and week out they would get smashed. Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Kentucky. Where are their wins going to be? Certainly not any of the first 12. NDSU has a chance to be a big fish in a medium sized pond or a small fish in the open waters. Now, the best possible scenario NDSU could hope for would be for DI football to go to a three tier system. They could absolutely compete in what would be the second highest tier.
-
Big win for NDSU. They are without a doubt the best team in the FCS but those that think they should move to FBS are kidding themselves. And this SEC talk is a joke. They would absolutely get slapped around playing a full season in the big10 or big12 much less the SEC. Lets be real.

Yep, both Bartels and Mollberg look to have the potential to be real studs if they continue to develop. Still too early to tell but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if one of them transfers after the starting spot is settled for good.
-
We've got 2 young QBs that can both chuck it by the looks of it.
-
For as good as the offense has looked the run defense has looked equally poor.

Kenny F'n Golladay

The only other position I could see him playing would be TE if he outgrew the WR position but he isn't in that spot of the chart either.
-
Just seems odd to me. He was the #2 receiver last year and was a stud. Now he isn't even a top 4 of the depth chart? Makes no sense.
-
Ok, now that I know Jackson really wasn't on the top 4 of the depth chart, can someone explain to me how that is possible? Unless he is hurt and I never realized it I can't comprehend how that is accurate.
-
Am I blind or was Jameer Jackson not on the top 4 of the WR depth chart on Miller's section in the paper?
-
Not a fan of switching up the QBs for different series. There has been many schools to try it and far more often than not it is unsuccessful. Pick your QB and go with him until he shows he isn't the best option. I thought for certain that Mollberg was going to be the guy but if Bartels out performed him and deserves the spot than I think you have to go with him. If Bartels is bad in the first game then you let Mollberg have at it in the next.

I like the interlocking ND. Hope it stays but thats just my opinion.

There are more UND fans in Minot than there are Beaver fans. I know, I live here. All of the people in town are UND fans, and all of the people in the "suburbs" for lack of a better term (Surrey, Velva, Des Lacs, Burlington) are FU fans.
