On the north side for SRO there is a natural, permanent gap for the Zamboni.   Each of the two "platforms" has 3 rows that can go 3 or 4 deep depending on how crowded people want to be.  On the glass will be a prime spot for a lot of people.

I was wondering what they would do with that area - it's been left flat most (all?) season for Force games.

So you're saying it's safe to go to the bathroom at intermission cuz SRO loses their spots for the Zamboni anyway?

Not sure what they'll do, as there's space on both sides of the Zamboni tunnel.  If they let people stand in that space during the game, they'll all have to go somewhere during the intermissions.  BTW, the stairs are on the short-side of the space, so you'll have to cross past the Zamboni doors to get to the main standing area.

Would you be able to tell me if getting to SRO early will make a large difference in my view for the game or will I just be further back on the risers?

    Thanks

When I watched Force games from the SRO areas in there, I actually preferred to be on the riser and look over the top.  If you can be right against the glass, that's a great view, but 2-3 people back, I'd rather be up.  I'm only about 5'11", so a really tall guy can still obscure my view watching from the floor.  Also, the floor is about 2" lower than the ice.

They must have changed the seating in the arena since the last regional. The standing room seats are on the end where the zamboni comes out and where the standing room seats were on the other end there are actual seats? Has anyone been there recently. My tickets are in 113 row B. I haven't been able to find any recent pictures to show where seats have replaced the old standing room area?

Zamboni end is still SRO.  The other (south) end is all seats all the way down.  Permanent install, now looks like any other arena for sections 112, 113, and 114.  IMHO, you're in a great spot right there on the end -

Edit: Scheels Arena is the only hockey arena I spend more time in than the Ralph.

Yeah I completely forgot about that! I figured the bud light lounge would have beer, but it's a ncaa event. Is the fan fest connected? Could one go to first game then to fan fest then back in ? Yeah perhaps before the game!

Yep - that's the point.  They're going to make bank off of all of us going to the other sheet for fan fest for drinks and food.  $20 a person just to get in for the weekend, it's closed during games - including period breaks - so you can only enter before, between, and after.  Then, drinks and such.  $$$$$$$$

Yes, we still bought the fan fest tickets, largely for the gap between the afternoon and night games on Friday, since you can't leave :\

So close to mine, I just used your list ;)

Honestly, after Cornell, you could swap the next 6 around in about any order, and I wouldn't care.  I could also bump OSU up around the Harvard spot without much of a fight.

  6. Just a note for those coming in from out of town:  Construction on 32nd Ave in Fargo has started.  This runs from just east of I-29 to around 42nd St.

If you're wondering what that means - it means take the I-94 exit off I-29 to either 45th St or Veteran's Blvd to get to the arena, or be prepared for traffic backup.  There are 2 truck stops on the 32nd Ave exit and lane closures, so things can get backed up/painful in a hurry!

Chicago just scored 4 in the 3rd against Colorado to take a 5-3 lead. Toews was offside for one of them, don't know how it wasn't overturned.

Reason I heard (not saying I agree with) was that Chicago hadn't possessed the puck yet when it crossed the blue line, so as long as Toews touched up before they did (still a close call), he was on-sides.  I watched it at least a dozen times, and the idea that there was inconclusive evidence still makes me raise an eyebrow in wonder...

I live across the street from scheels arena so my place? Lol. If it was up to me I would suggest brewtus brickhouse for this. Awesome new bar just a couple blocks west of the arena.

Stopped into Brewtus on Saturday and talked to Dusty.  They will have buses and are also the ones running the "on site, but separate ticket" bar and such on the other sheet at Scheels (the VIP Lounge, or whatever they're calling it).  Brewtus is also all ages, for people who need that, and has delicious pizza and walleye fingers.  The other food there has been good, but not special, in my experience.

Sioux jersey sighting 3 times while watching the Flyers vs Pit!

Saw that, too!  What a game for Phili, huh?  Not just winning, but beating Pitt by a nice margin.  Probably got Hak a week's reprieve from half the fan base.

  10. Loved having him at UND.  Loved having him in Fargo (launched the Fargo Force, if you recall).

But, I'll now be glad to see more UND legacy players start going to UND instead of UNO - the Zombos and Morellis of the world ;)

Crowd?  Have you seen attendance for this tourney? :D

I'll admit it:  As much as I like to tease goofer fans about the B1G, I hope there's good attendance for this tourney.  There's a lot riding on it for these teams, and I'd really like to see the fans get out and support the kids.  It would just be one more small step toward the rest of the country discovering how awesome college hockey is -

Question for those who attended last Fargo regional:

Better/more intense atmosphere for UND hockey team?

    -Sold out Ralph?

    -Sold out Scheels arena?

I was at the regional in Grand Forks years ago and there was just something different about that crowd.  So intense....so into the hockey games.  Loudest I've ever heard at REA.

I won't try to directly compare the two, but I will say that at Scheels EVERYONE is directly over the game.  The arena only goes back to row M, then the club row and suites/lounges, so there isn't anyone with binoculars like the back row of the 300 level at the Ralph.  That also means the roof is lower, the back walls closer.  The sound is just that much more compressed.  It's truly a special experience being there when the boys win!

Simpson was a 4th rounder that played juniors prior to coming to UND.  You may have missed the topic?

Must've forgotten his history - it's been a few years since I thought about it.  I just remember him being named captain while being younger than some of the freshmen who came through juniors.  I forget Canada does juniors a lot earlier, letting him still come to campus at 17.  Watched too many USHL games, I guess! :D
