From what I could see on Dataflix, the Sioux were coming on much stronger in the 2nd. If that can carry over into the 3rd, they will be in good shape. They have to get traffic in front of Coole.
  2. Yale scores. Looked a bit soft to me.
  3. Stafford just used his size in front of the net to guide that one in.
  4. Watching the game on Dataflix, Sioux are somewhat dominating the game. They will come back and win this.
  5. Roche definitely played. He was in two separate pictures in the Chicago Sun Times today. Both of them where he working in front of the net.
  6. It was good to see David Hale out there even during the OT. Coaches must have a lot of confidence in him already. Thorton was a monster.
  7. I think the Dataflix site is working, as I viewed the hockey preview. I am using Windows XP (with MediaPlayer v9) and McAfee Virus Checking and Firewall, via DSL. I logged in and purchased the game for tommorrow also. REALLY looking forward to seeing the games live.
  8. The general consensus in the professional ranks is that there is going to be a strike next year. It will be a long, tough negotiation. It might take several months because of the radical overall the compensation framework needs. Therefore, you may not see them leaving as in years past.

    1) Does having a fairly fast processor (2.0 GHz Intel 4 Pentium) help make up for my slow connection speeds & give me a realistic shot at seeing the game somewhat well? > No, the quality of the images are directly related to the number of frames per second which can be transmitted via your internet link. 2) What do "buffering" & "rebuffering" mean? > The video streaming normally requires much higher bandwidth than your modem can achieve. So, in order to compensate, it will try to buffer as much of the program as possible while you are pausing or viewing. It is usually a background type of task, which usually requires no intervention on your part. 3) If I have a 56k modem, why the heck is my Internet connection a lot slower than that?? For example, I have a 56k modem, it says that my current speed is 40kbps as I type right now & when I view the demo it says that the connection speed is 31.7 kbps. Why the dropoffs? > The modems will try to connect at 56k, but if the quality of the phone lines involved (and this can be somewhat random depending on your local carrier) then they will step down until they can establish a good connection. To make it even more confusing, just because you connect at a certain speed does not mean you will actually attain that throughput because of a miriad of factors. So, the demo program tests the actual throughput and tries to operate at what it estimates your actual sustainable throughput to be. So, the dropoff is probably because of this. > To do video streaming you will probably need to get a broadband connection of some sort (DSL, Cable Modem, etc.). Dial-up lines unfortunately just won't cut it. You can try to get by with dial-up, but I think you will be frustrated.
  10. Thanks to PCM for stepping in. We don't need any shameless glory seekers defaming others to gain some points on a message board.
  11. I am honestly outraged after reading the article. No punishment would be too severe to those that did this. Sincere condolences to the family.
  12. The 'ushockeynews' website is much more likely to publish editorial type content. The comments about Josh are just comments in my opinion. They like to be first to report things and as a result sometimes they get it wrong.
  13. Someone informed me this article was released on ushockeynews... ======================= 20 year-old Waterloo Black Hawks goaltender Jordan Parise, the older brother of North Dakota phenom Zach Parise, has committed to the Fighting Sioux for next season, and will report this fall with an approximate half-scholarship in tow. Parise's nod to North Dakota continues what's been a head scratching goalkeeper's carousel in Grand Forks of late. In each of the past two seasons, head coach Dean Blais has used four goaltenders-including one-time Waterloo keeper Josh Siembida, who came to North Dakota amidst much fanfare just after Christmas of 2001. Now, word is Siembida-a 20 year-old from Porcupine, Ontario-will not return to Grand Forks next year despite going 12-4 last season with a 3.16 GAA. If so, this leaves room for yet another goaltending prospect such as Parise. Lincoln Stars goalie Phillipe Lamoureux-who was slated to join the Fighting Sioux in 2004-05-had been considered to come on board one year early, but it now appears he'll be staying in Lincoln for another season. As for Parise, he put up an impressive 21-10-2 mark with a 2.55 GAA average this past season. It was a welcome turn of events for the Fairbault, Minnesota native, who bounced between Chicago and Pittsburgh (NAHL) in 2002. Recently, Parise visited North Dakota, Mass-Amherst and Minnesota-Mankato, but to him, the allure and comfort zone of Grand Forks was too good to pass up. "It just seemed like the best fit," said Parise from Fairbault on Tuesday afternoon, "the (Ralph Engelstad) arena is amazing, and the guys all treated me very well. I know they'll be competition for the top goaltender spot, but if I play well, I'll give him (Coach Blais) only one option, and that's to play me." At this point, assuming Siembida doesn't return, Parise's main competition will come from junior-to-be Jake Brandt, who went 11-4-4 in 2002-03. But best of all, Parise will once again have the chance to skate alongside younger brother Zach, both of whom played together for two seasons at Shattuck St. Mary's. In 2003, Zach scored 26 goals and 61 points, and presently stands 13th amongst all prospects heading into June's NHL draft by Red Line Report, the independent scouting review. "This may be the last time we'll ever get a chance to play together," said Parise, cognizant of Zach's options of turning pro in the near future. "It will be kind of awkward with me coming in as a rookie to him, but if we can both push each other, the end result, for either one of us, should be positive."
  14. Has a good rant going there. Who has time to write something that long? Good read though. Agree it is unfair to be knocking Granato. I am live near his home town, so have followed him a bit. I think his progression is based on merit and achievement. It has always been a mystery to me how coaches (with no general manager type responsibilities) can get multi-million $$ players to play together well and totally sacrifice themselves to win. In reality, they have no real leverage over the players. One of the problems with pro-sports today.
  15. Agree that juniors and all returning players not only need to step up their play, but also exceed all the other returning players (who will be improving) in the league. In the WCHA, it is a bitch just to stay even, given all the talent. Returning players also have to help the freshman get acclamated and 'fit in' with the team. Hope everyone is able to hang around GF this summer so they can do that.
  16. While they are very promising, I am glad the forwards won't have the pressure that Parise had coming in. The publicity around Parise was really overwhelming for such a young guy, even though he handled it well. He probably would have been better if he didn't have those distractions.
  17. My 16 year son old has played with and against Zach Bearson. Very strong on his skates, good along the boards and in the corners, excellent passer. For a 16 year old, impressive wrist shot. He is around 6-1/6-2, and probably still growing some.
  18. The U18 team finished 4th, with a 6-3 loss to Russia. Stafford finished 2nd in scoring for the US, with 3g, 3a. Unfortunately there are no box scores listed on usahockey.com, so it is difficult to see any other players stats.
  19. I think the following will provide UND excellent motivation of making it to the final 4 next year. - Hype about how good Minnesota is and how no one will be able to touch them. - Hype of how great of coach Lucia really is - Hype of how our 2/3/4 lines can't perform, can we please give this a rest? - Just watching the final game tape, Gophers were a little too dominate - Almost all WCHA teams are expected to be better next year. A big key to next season's success will be managing the teams ongoing development between November and February. The team has to improve weekly during that time period and the 02/03 schedule did not help them in that regard. With all the travel at the end of the schedule, there was little room for player development. This was a real problem for the Sioux towards the season, as it is not only difficult to maintain any steady improvement hockey wise it is also just difficult to stay up with the academics. Next season started two weeks ago for UND returning players. There are some big skates to fill from guys who have left and there are excellent opportunities for all players to step up and further their hockey careers. UND is a great program to be for these guys right now. Best facility in the world. Best coaching. Best fans. Time of your life. Go get 'em guys.
  20. Should be a great game. Gophers will take it by a score of 5-2 (empty net goal at the end). UNH defense will not be able to handle Minn forwards.
  21. Everyone talks about what is wrong, but I don't see any suggestions on how to fix it or improve. Any suggestions from the 'experts' on how to get on track would be most appreciated.
  22. Thanks for the clarification on the on-ice officials. Did not know that.
