  1. But, Goon, we have the nicest arena and it's full. Nobody can hold a candle to that, can they?

I'm not calling for hak's job but if you cannot see the benefits not only the arena brings but also the programs history and workout facilities you're blind. Sorry I tried to say that in the nicest way possible :)

  2. Agreed. I'd like a nice 10 game winning streak before Christmas and not the usual mad scramble to make the NCAA's in January and February.

I would like these teams simply to play well before Christmas. I would also like them to work hard before Christmas. Neither has happened over the past 2-3 years. As many coaches say, "they are going through the motions" and it is very obviously. Many people on here were super happy they ripped off 59 shots last Saturday, I was more concerned with the fact they still could not score while also letting up a 3rd period lead to lose and tie to a team that is unranked. There is something a tad different with this team than in years past. Hopefully it is simply the injury bug.

  3. Spot-on. It's a shame that some good coaches are run out of town (especially in college football) because they can't win an NCAA title. It's not that easy.

One hockey coach I'd like to see win an NCAA title before he retires: Dick Umile of UNH.

One hockey coach I'd like to see win an NCAA title before he leaves: Dave Hakstol of UND.

  4. I need one ticket for Friday night's game. I am looking for the cheapest ticket possible as I simply need to get a buddy in the door. We already have lower bowl seats available to sit in I simply need to get him in the door. Message me if anyone is looking to get some cash for one of their un-used tickets.

  5. Good article for some debate. However, any list of the top 50 players in the league that has Kyle Turris on it and leaves off Patrice Bergeron I give no credence to.

Haha no doubt. FYI, Bleacher Report is a joke. PB is top 10....and I stand by that.

  6. Very different players...and they tried to put Rocco with Knight and Kristo last year with marginal success. Rocco doesn't play a role very well. Heis über talented, but just doesn't fit well. He didn't fit with the WJC team either. People pumped up his two goal gold medal game, but they were goals I could've scored- one off his rear end.

Also very true. I am having a hard time figuring him out. When I watch him he appears to be the best player on the ice most of the time, or at least the hardest working/skilled player on the ice. One thing I have been saying about him for quite some time is that he takes some pretty risky chances (the exact reason he was sat at the WJCs). Also, at first glance his shot appears good but I am starting to doubt that or else he would have more goals by now through two seasons (yes, we have a relatively large sample size). I think he should switch his style of play to become more of a disher. Use that uber burst to create space and move the puck to the soft spots rather than going to the hole. With how he handles the puck in the O-zone he could have 2 assists per game. Maybe put O'Donnell on his line. I don't know, just my thoughts from watching him the past two years.

  7. I saw Friday, not Saturday.

We can disagree on the Rocco vs Nelson assessment, but here are the facts that sway me. 28 goals by Nelson in 11-12, 4 for Rocco so far. Nelson a #1 draft pick, Rocco a #2. 6 foot 3, 5 foot 6. I like Rocco, but I think Nelson simply has a better knack around the net, and last I checked it was goals scored, not scoring chances that put Ws on the board.

What are the differences in this team vs that team in personnel upfront?

Rocco and Jewels and Chyzyk vs Kristo and Knight and Nelson (advantage 2011-2012 team)

Mark Mac and OD and Parks vs Mark Mac and Parks and Rowney(mostly same guys- pretty much a draw in talent, but 2011-2012 Rowney scored 18 goals...)

The General, Gaarder and Rodwell/Mitch vs Mario, Gaarder and Rodwell/Mitch (pretty much a draw, if anything 2011-2012 advantage for Mario's green blood)

Tambellini, Murphy, and Johnson vs whomever the 2011-2012 could get healthy (upside potential won by 2013-2014, but thee guys have a combined 3 goals and 7 assists so far...not exactly killing it)

Completely agree with this statement, please people do not compare Rocco to Brock Nelson. He is like one year older and plays on a line with John Taveras.

  8. Sorry; the third sentence wasn't geared at you specifically. It seems every fall the wheels fall off, and this team won't amount to anything, and this and that. That sentence was pointed at the multitudes of doom-sayers who come out every fall.

And, before I get jumped on, I'm not saying that this team doesn't deserve some criticism, especially after seeing the difference between their play on Friday and Saturday nights at BU. I just tend to give them a little bit longer to get their stuff together before flying off the edge.

    No worries.

  9. November 2011. UND started 4-7-1 that year. Translation: back away from the ledge and give the team a little time to figure it out. That 2011 team ended up as a #1 seed and won the Final Five.

Note: total credit to Schloss for looking up the info and sending out into the twitter world (though the 'translation' was from yours truly).

??? I was simply looking for the last time we weren't ranked. I knew it was sometime in the last 3-5 year (fully knowing those teams came back and had average to above average years). No need for the 3rd sentence.

  10. This is unfortunate because the main reason why he left Pentiction was that he was unhappy with his production in the BCHL (8pts in 10 games). Those coaches encouraged him to jump to the WHL thinking he would put up more points to help his draft stock down the road. And Gropp thought he would be able to play on a line with his good buddy Matthew Barzal.

Obviously he's young and there is plenty of time for him to turn things around, but he has to be a little disappointed.

Completely agree. I know what the WHL is about. He went there to showcase his skill and inflate his numbers by playing with Barzal. That is definitely not happening. Tough league though.

  11. They get much worse, they might get 70 shots on goal

What I meant was it doesn't really matter how good we looked on Saturday night for 2/3's of the game. All that matters is they blew their lead at the end of the game. Same theme here so far the entire season (actually it started last year). This team cannot play with a lead whatsoever, 0 consistency. Hopefully that changes this weekend.

  12. A) 11-22-2 - the worst record in the BC years of Jerry York

18-19-2 - Don Lucia's worst season at Minnesota

12-17-9 Jack Parker's worst season at BU

13-26-1 Red Berenson's worst season at Michigan

11-23-4 Gino Gasparini's last season at North Dakota

7-28-4 Scott Sandelin's worst record at Minnesota-Duluth (first season there)

24-15-4 Dave Hakstol's WORST season at North Dakota

Very true, he does not deserve to lose his job. What we are seeing now is that a lot of their draft picks and recruits are not panning out. Every once in awhile that will happen to an elite program. I am honestly not as high as everyone else on next years class either. Schmaltz will be very nice if he comes but the other forwards have struggled in junior hockey. Go to USHL.com and look who leads the league and look where they are going. More likely than not they will be decent college players. Beside schmaltz none of our recruits are doing anything. Our only hope is that we return all our players. I like our D but our forward recruits as a whole is somewhat concerning.
