  1. Gophers haven't had an easy time with anyone. This will be decided late in the third.

The Sioux on the other hand will get invincible goaltending and behind five Rocco/Kristo goals will win 5-0.

    :p

Touche....that MN goalie though....that kid can play. I would be shocked if he gave up more than 2 goals today. The guy NEVER gets blown up, I highly doubt that happens against a team as terrible as Yale.

  2. Not sure why anyone would rather play Yale when they snuck into the tourney. Niagara was up to Number 7 in the PWR late in the season until Canisius upset them.

    My take:

    1. I think it really hurts us to be in the same regional as Minnesota. Not because I'm scared of the Gophers but it takes the focus off Game 1. The boys need to really be focused on Niagara now.

    2. We need to solve Chubak early. The longer Niagara goes and keeps the game close the more they think they can actually win. We are a much better team but we need to show it by scoring.

    3. Everyone talks about Rocco. Rocco needs his hands to catch up to his feet. Either that or he needs to slow his hands down and not be so fast on the release. He needs to relax and let his talent take over.

    4. If we get past Niagara I think we'll be playing the Gophers. Then I think the game comes down to penalty kill and power play. We need to be better than they are and that will be tough. This year the Gophers are huge and draw a lot of penalties cycling down low (the way a lot of Sioux teams used to). This Sioux team is not a physical team and they need to be patient when the Gophers are in our zone. Also they need to stop pushing everything into the high slot since it makes them so susceptible to odd man rushes when they make mistakes. This time of year if you are plus on the power play you usually win. I feel that this North Dakota team is more talented than Minnesota. We just need to let it all hang out and play like we did the last game against Tech where the focus was shots on goal. If we do that and get decent goaltending we make the Frozen Four.

First Niagara. And what the heck is a Purple Eagle?

    Well put.

  3. I think UND got a good draw with this one. Niagara is a team that is quite possibly the most overrated team in the history of the PWR. Only 21 in the KRACH rankings and their SOS is 53 out of 59. I know it's playoff time and anything can happen, but I fully expect UND to completely out class Niagara in every aspect of the game. 6-1 UND.

Veteran move....trying to jinx us early. Two can play that game.....gophs cruze through the game today, no doubt in my mind. I'm calling 5-1 after 2.

  4. Here's some information for you: Ohio State drew approximately 2,000 fans for their three-game series with Ferris State. Not per game, for the entire weekend! It's probably a GOOD thing that the Buckeyes used their practice rink.

Having attended the 2005 Frozen Four, I can honestly tell you that Joe Six Pack in Columbus had NO CLUE that the men's ice hockey tournament was in town...but he could tell you the exact second that OSU spring football practice started that weekend.

Ding ding ding! And that will always be the case no matter which conference those hockey teams play in. In general the majority of people from Ohio no nothing about the game of hockey...except that when they catch a Blue Jackets game they may get to see a fight...which they again will not understand (why ifs apart of the game). Those fanbases no nothing about college hockey because they don't understand the game...and the majority of the people in those areas never will.

  5. Goaltending will make or break our post-season run here....Plus, I'm with a few who think O'D could be getting more comfortable up with the #1 unit and I think its time he start showing us his offensive potential!

This is what I'm banking on....and a bunch of early Yale goals.

  6. He said ODonnell is still on the top line. Not much else other than that.

Also said it might not be bad to have a couple days off after the loss to CC and that they had some good days of practice.

And reiterated several times that this isn't a series, and you can't have an off day. Our leaders know that.

I don't like him up there but on a positive note, maybe OD starts loosening up. He's been up there for more than a few games now; I bet it's becoming more natural for him. Hopefully we get some scoring from the 2nd and 3rd lines this week(end). If we do and our D and goalies come to play we win both games.

  7. In 2010-2011, 4 of the Big 10 hockey schools ranked in the top 10 in athletic department spending. Ohio State was #2, Michigan #3, Penn State #6 and Wisconsin #9. They all made a profit on their athletic departments. Their income has increased since then because of the Big 10 network. Money is not a problem for them or their hockey programs. Minnesota will continue to spend on their hockey program. Michigan State has had success in the past and will continue to have success. The new Big 10 hockey conference will be successful. Hockey may not be the top priority for all of the schools (probably not the top priority for any of the schools), but they have the resources and the interest to be successful.

It isn't hard to believe that putting Big 10 schools in the same conference would spur interest at some of those schools. When Michigan meets Ohio State in any competition the interest increases substantially. It makes sense that it would happen in hockey, and it makes sense that the same thing could happen between other schools in the Big 10, probably to a lesser degree.

Other programs will also be successful. UND, Denver and others in the NCHC will continue to be successful along with BC and other Hockey East schools. Some smaller schools, including some of the schools in the new WCHA may have trouble competing. Some of these schools have trouble competing right now.

Like it or not, the Big 10 is currently the most powerful overall conference in the country at this time, and their foray into hockey is not going to change that. It is time to get over the whole thing and help all of these schools make college hockey more successful.

College Hockey will never be popular across the entire country...it's a different animal than basketball and football. Hockey is a tight knit "family" and thus I don't agree with your reasoning.

I don't mind the realignment at all. I simply don't think the big ten hockey conference will work...they will have 3 decent teams year in and year out. Even Wisconsin is only good every 3-5 years or so.

  8. January 2013 Forbes article.

    http://www.cbssports...ence-sec-fourth

From the article- "The Big Ten is No. 1 with revenues of $310 million -- $250 million of that coming from TV. The Pacific 12 Conference is second at $303 million and the Atlantic Coast Conference third at $293 million.

The SEC had revenues of $270 million."

Check what happens in 2014/15/16. The big ten is a dying conference. Their only hope is basketball and the southern schools are already passing them (besides this season for some odd reason).

  9. The Big Ten network has made the conference richer and more powerful than any other conference. Im not just talking about on field performance.

Weird I can barely get the channel. If the teams are not good their network will not be big and bad ( I guess all the good SEC fb teams play on the big networks every Saturday). They had better hope their basketball can continue their success.

  10. The idea that the Big Ten, which btw is the most famous and powerful collegiate conference in the nation, will be more obscure than the WCHA is crazy. No one outside of college hockey circles have even heard of the WCHA.

You have to be kdding me...besides this year's basketball conference the Big10 has been terrible in pretty much every sport for the past 7-10 years. Their football conference is barely above terrible. Any top SEC teams play any of the top Big10 football teams it gets ugly from the very first whistle.

  11. I have been in favor of putting Rocco up top since the pre-season however my thoughts are starting to change. One line can be shut down, plain and simple. Now do I think Niagra could shut that line down....no, but MN could. Over the last few games I have noticed that Caggs is really stepping up and making plays, maybe we through him up top, or Parks. Below are the line combos I think would work but I don't think Hak will make any drastic changes this late in the season (other than switching goalies).

    caggs-knight-Kristo

    Parks-Rowney-Rocco

OD-Mark Mac-Gaardner (however someone other than Gaardner and MiMac may need to go here...St. Clair?)

    Pattyn-St Clair-Rodwell/MiMac

In all, I don't think our offense is struggling. We need to play tight in our own zone and clear open shooting lanes so our goalies see clear shots. Also, our goalies must play better. Tips/defelcetions will go in every blue moon but we can't let in 1-2 softies every game. I think the Sioux will come out flying on Friday.

  12. yeah but that won't make any difference. minny over yale 7-2, und over niagara 3-2, minny over und 5-3 and go on to win their sixth. this region effin sucks.

??? I'm usually the pessimist....but I think you have me beat. We beat Niagra and win a thriller over Yale in OT.

  13. Can't ever look past an opponent, but they have not played anyone decent this year. They may have a solid goalie, but we will be by far the most dominant team to test them. Shouldn't be another Yale game, Yale actually had a little talent that year (not that we should have lost). UND 5-1

I'd rather our matchup than the goofers ... Yale beat CC, Denver and tied BC this year.

Agreed cant overlook Niagra but we should be able to wear them down. Lets put a ton of shots on net early and show them why our program is superior. Let them know why we are current under-ranked. We also need to figure out who's playing net and who should be on our top 6....two biggest questions that I have.

  14. I agree with Wodon's projections on CHN, except I see them keeping UND/Denver in the 8/9 match-up in Providence (as opposed to swapping Denver with Niagara). The rules allow them to keep a first-round conference match-up if the conference has 5 teams in the tournament, and this year we have 6. That being said, I think this is what we'll find out at 8:00 pm tonight:

Providence: 1. Quinnipiac vs. 16. Canisius / 8. North Dakota vs. 9. Denver

Grand Rapids: 2. Minnesota vs. 15. Yale / 6. Boston College vs. 11. Minnesota State

    Manchester: 3. Mass.-Lowell vs. 14. Wisconsin / 7. New Hampshire vs. 10. Niagara

Toledo: 4. Notre Dame vs. 13. St. Cloud State / 5. Miami vs. 12. Union

Und won't play a wcha team in the first game.

  15. Moy always seems to be spot on but I don't see how either of his scenarios happens.

That second scenario of his is completely ridiculous....that could be a final four. I'm still confused why Quin holds their top spot as they are losing to some of the worst teams in the country. Looks as though BC is a shoe in for the 4.

  16. Does anybody have any photos of these two jerseys? A lot of people request photos of them, but I never get to see them frown.gif If you have any pictures, I would love to see them. Thanks!

    gwDKtBq.jpg

I saw them in Omaha too....they live in the cities

  17. For the record, I think we all feel better about a gopher loss. What I'm asking is do you feel better about the Sioux performance against cc, seeing how futile the gophers looked. 3 goals, OT, cc was rested and so on. If the gophers went out there tonight and waxed them 6-2, I'd feel a lot worse about our game.

I agree it was nice seeing the gophers lose, however we were the better team on Friday and the boys need to forget about all the close losses recently and focus on crushing whoever they get next week. They have been frustrating to watching but we have to roll off four wins in a row now. #streakstartsnow
