  1. It may be time for Hak to ditch the gopher philosophy of recruiting "pre-madonnas" and go back to the UND roots of getting hard-working, blue collar players. How many draft picks did Yale have on their team last year?

Go to USHL.com and check out a few names leading the league in scoring...then check out where they are going.

  2. I looked up the Calgary team to see their draft picks. One third rounder and a few seventh rounders. A few that were old enough to be drafted and were not. So what is playing with a bunch of 16, 17, and 18 year olds going to do for him? So he has half of this year and next year in the WHL and then off to the ECHL. Does anyone know why he went from Vernon to Surrey last year?

He left because he is having a terrible season and they are in full blown panic mode regarding his development as a player. If he's sitting on a third line he's not developing at the rate the Rangers and his family want. If he goes to the WHL he most likely will do better given that he is playing against younger/less physically mature players. He will also get PP time up there. The falacy that those kids in the Dub don't work out and get bigger is a joke. However, the fact that he went against his word, left his team out to dry for not only this season, but next as well shows the character of this kid and his family. I don't knock anyone for going the CHL route if they so choose, however, I firmly believe that if you commit to a program you at least stay the year (or two) to get acclimated to that league. Both the CHL and NCAA routes are very good but leaving early January is a joke. This sounds terrible but I do not wish this kid the best.

Also, he was traded while in the BCHL.

  3. Nah, Lucia had Okposo and Vanek, etc. Those guys didn't give 100% every shift.

And neither did Ryan Potulny in that infamous goal of HC's at the Ralph. Coughed it up in the corner, lollygagged back. Back of net. :)

Calling out a GF legend??? Huge Sioux fan here but that comment was bush.

  4. Jack Ahcan of Burnsville is an undersized but dynamic skating dman, seems cut of the Chay Genowy cloth. I watched the Bville Edina game onThursday, and he really impressed me with his skill.

    A+ skating

    A hands

    B compete

    A hockey sense

    B shot

He's a jr and the property of Cedar Rapids in the USHL. He is very small now, but if he hit 5'10 190 and spent 2 years in the USHL, he could be a great pick up

Ive seen him play too... kids good.

  5. Jared Bethune (Warroad) committed to UMD with his good buddy Kobe Roth (Warroad).

Not sure how much interest UND had, but I recall Schlossman saying Bethune was a player to keep an eye on.

Bethune and Roth are both very good players. Their schedule is very easy so I would be interested to see what they did at the USHL level. Roth is tiny but very skilled he'll make a good 4 year college player if he keeps progressing. I'm guessing Roth won't get much bigger than 5'6"/7". Bethune may be very good, again I simply haven't seen him play against top competition. Looks as though those boys go nuts against those small schools.

  6. Find me a college or pro athlete in any sport that doesn't mail it in on occasion. The 10-6 Eagles got their butts handed to them by a hapless Vikings team. The Miami Heat opened their season with a loss to a team tanking it to try to win next summer's draft lottery (76ers). The Islanders defeated the mighty Blackhawks a day ago. Baylor was expected to smoke Central Florida in the Fiesta Bowl...but the Knights put up 50+ on the Big 12 champions.

The series at Western Michigan and the next two series will tell you a lot more about this Sioux team than an exhibition game played in scenic British Columbia will.

In every scenario you mentioned it was one team against another from the same league. To correct you example it would be mich vs appalation state....and that mich team was a mess.

  7. Schloss prior to the game last night compared this UBC team to the U of Manitoba teams that come to the Ralph...regardless of some spin here it's a bad bad loss vs a bad team even if the excuse is an exhibition game.

From their schedule it appears Manitoba beat up on UBC.

  8. Sure it does. One counts and the other doesn't. ;)

Thanks for that! I actually laughed out loud when I read that line. :D:)

Regardless of what happened tonight or what happens tomorrow, UND is still on a current 5-game win streak with a favorable 2nd half schedule coming up.

I would rather they blow off their holiday rust during an exhibition game than next weekend against CC when the games actually count.

I am not about to proclaim that they will win the conference or the national title or anything...heck, even making the playoffs is certainly no given at this point...but I certainly am not throwing in the towel as a fan yet just because they had an OT loss to a team in Canada.

Regarding your last paragraph, you are very right. We are on a 5 game win streak so the boys need to focus going forward. However, given the purpose of why they went up there in the first place it makes no sense to lay an egg…..their compete level was nil. Also, give me one other game in the last 25 years that was a worse loss than that? UBC is in second to last place in their league.

  9. Well, they skated their "A" team, yet lost to an inferior team (on paper). It doesn't matter if it's an exhibition or conference game. They lost.

My issue was the way they lost and why they went up there in the first place. I watched the entire game….they played awful, actually they looked like the worst college hockey team I have ever witnessed. I seriously thought I was watching an NA game. I guarantee UAH would have went in there and beat them up pretty good. The reason they went up there was to showcase their skills….and were beat by a below average Canadian school. Now we have to play some club team today. I really wished they would have simply scheduled some good US teams…all this did was make college hockey look worse.

My prediction 5-4 OT UND win.

  10. I don't care what anyone says this may be the most embarrassing loss in the history of the program. Sure no one will even hear about this however the UBC team looked so bad. They aren't even good in their league. UND should have dropped 8-9 goals on those guys. It really doesn't matter if this was an exhibition game…what just happened truly took place. UND had their full lineup. And to think, in that other thread there were posters getting all high and mighty thinking we should play a good CHL team. This UBC team has gotten beat up by everyone including Manitoba. Again, Hak and the boys surprise me that they cannot get up to put a beating on an inferior team. We're going on a few years here now.
