It is our major NCAA sport and always will be. Also, NCAA popularity is increasing year over year along with the increase in hockey popularity (thanks to USA Hockey). College hockey TV viewing is also increasing rapidly. Lastly, NCAA hockey is easily just as popular as FCS football is to the main stream sports fan. Their championship games are broadcast on espn....that's about it.

And that's his opinion and I don't really agree with it. I watch a lot of sports and I never see media analysts talking about it more than 30 seconds or so. Also, over the past 3 years we have been in limbo in regards to a nickname. If and/or when North Dakota is chosen I believe the media will put it to rest. We would just be North Dakota and that sounds ok to me.

So there are two sides of the "no nickname" choice. Those that don't want some terrible, generic nickname and those that probably believe the old nickname will or can come back. Either way, what is the harm of having no nickname? Do you honestly think the NCAA will come down on us for not having a nickname? Come on, the damage was already done, they won. They're not coming back. They have bigger things to worry about than some north Dakotans showing up to their sporting events with a Sioux logo on.

since this is a thread for those that want to have ND as an option I find it odd that all of you who want a new, generic nickname feel the need to chime in.

I went to two fb games last season when I was visiting my folks (they are season ticket holders). There were tons of people at both games. That seems like support to me. Maybe it is the rebuilding aspect based on the poor performance of a prior coach. Once they hire a strong coach and good recruiters then they'll be back.

Tom covers FB and other less popular sports. I never realized this but it appears the other programs are a tad salty at the success of the hockey program (and the coverage it receives). Maybe that has something to do with it. Sad though, because we should all be on the same team.
