UND FIGHTING HAWKS vs. DU Pioneers - FRIDAY Gameday
scpa0305 replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Sioux 4-3 -
Oh boy, Malone fought Tootoo last night. Not good.
-
Big ice sheets you can trap; it is actually easier to play D. At least at the higher levels.
-
I too like the variety of rinks but not size. Olympic sized ice sheets need to disappear. Such a boring game to watch if you D up correctly (ex. most recent Olympics).
-
Yon has been picking it up big time over the last 10 games or so. Such a great idea to play that extra year of juniors. He'll come in ready to contribute next year.

This is going to pull gfhockey out of the woodshed.....but define "get it done:

Check my smiley. I have posted similar comments and other posters have been quick to get defensive and revert back to UND. Not saying you were doing this but it was the first response to my post. Just saying.

Blasphemy that DeBrincat isn't on that list.
-
Agreed. But what they're doing now is what we were doing in the mid 2000's. Sometimes we need to take the blinders off and appreciate what other schools are doing as well. Quinn is doing a fine job as a recruiter so far.

Boston is getting who they want these days.

I have significant problems when posting from my phone. I receive an error message stating something along the lines of "must enter in all fields". Even though everything is correctly entered. It is hit or miss. Sometimes I can post other times I cannot.

...so the Mariucci is basically empty.

UND FIGHTING HAWKS @ MSU Spartans - SUNDAY Gameday
scpa0305 replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
at this rate agreed. Ahl would be a stretch. He was just on a 3x1 and didn't even peek at the other 2. -
No, I don't think he would stay that long anyways. He's on campus 4 years max unless he's a full blown bust.

UND FIGHTING HAWKS @ SCSU Huskies - Saturday Gameday
scpa0305 replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
agreed, I'm not sure what the banter has been about the last page or so. Und definitely has more upside however st cloud is a solid fast team. They play well on that big ice. We lost 6-1 but the boys shut it down once Olson took that game changing bone head penalty. we split to the #7 ranked squad on the road, no big deal. On to next week. -

I agree 100%. It's fun to load up that top line but it can cost you when another team can contain them (as they did last Saturday). The 2nd and 3rd lines did absolutely nothing this past weekend. Actually they have never really done anything since the CBS line has been intact. Berry will have to make some tough decisions. -

He's doing it to poke at UND fans...he's the biggest UND troll there is. -

Great road win by the boys. They'll need to pick it up tomorrow night. Hopefully the huskies gassed themselves tonight, they were flying. If it had not been for the #1 D core in the nation that game could have gotten out of hand. The refs didn't help us either. 6-3 tomorrow, Wilkie and gersich need to hit the stat sheet here soon. Wondering if Cam will get a shot, I doubt it. -

Hrynkiw goes down like a 6'4" butterfly goalie. -

I heard that acronym several weeks ago and kind of laughed it off. Now it seems to be gaining more steam. I honeslty think the students voted this name in solely due to that acronym. Somewhat shocking actually. Show you the maturity level of college students. However, I may have done the same I guess.

My comment was actually referring to most things in life, not simply hockey or sports. It was kind of a joke, but but somewhat applies to most things. As for your comment, you are correct you can't only look at numbers. However, I too track stats a lot. Actually from what I have found, many players who put up solid numbers at one level typically find close to similar success at the next level at some point in time. Now obviously players' stats will most likely decline moving up from level to level until eventually they cannot move up any longer (they are forced to retire or are in the NHL ). On the flip side, there are always those outliers. Many on this forum constantly bring up Johnny Brodzinski as an outlier, which is correct. However, where I disagree with you is that looking at stat progression is meaningless, because it is not.

I guess I'll have to take you word on that. A wise man once told me "you're only as good as you are on paper" and that seems to work for most things in life :). All kidding aside, I hope you are right because even low level grinders playing for some less recognizable schools put up very good numbers in that league. Here's to a state correction coming soon.
