Is anyone here capable of being honest with themselves? You know they picked OSU because of their name alone. It didn't matter one bit that they're hockey program is sub par. OSU is arguably the most famous athletic department in the nation which is why they will be playing in their third outdoor event like this. But go ahead and keep thinking that UND would garner the same interest as ANY Big ten school let alone OSU.
-
Anyone want to answer my question? Why did Wisconsin pick Ohio State to play at Lambeau?
-
You don't get it. Does UND teach marketing? This has nothing to do with the strenghth of OSU's hockey program but you keep acting like it does. The average sports fan has no clue if OSU is good or bad at hockey. Let me ask you this question. Why did Wisconsin play Ohio State at Lambeau? OSU's hockey prgraman isn't very good. They're in different hockey conferences(at the time). So why did they pick OSU?
-
You, as always are missing the point. And when the hell did I suggest UND isn't a national power in hockey? And this is NOT about Ohio States hockey program its about their national brand. The idea that UND, im sorry but it's a small school with a tiny following, will garner the same interest as The Ohio State University is just crazy. If you can't see why than you are delusional.
-
Empty Stadium? They're expecting a sell out of 50K. And you're just wrong when you say that scheduling UND would've guaranteed a decent following. This is the first outdoor hockey event in this states history therefore EVERY Minnesota hockey fan will be watching regardless of the opponent. So the next question is what opponent will generate more interest outside of Minnesota? It's certainly not a school like UND compared to any Big Ten school.
-
I just think the average sports fan across the country is more likely to tune in if they see Ohio State is involved as opposed to UND.
-
Every school in the Big Ten is nationally known, just a fact. And Im not slamming UND in the least. Im simply saying from a marketing standpoint UM vs OSU is bigger than UM vs UND. Locally UM vs UND would be much bigger, I fully admit that.
-
Big Ten Network.
-
No, that's not the big question. The big question is, who will bring more national exposure. The Ohio State University or UND? The answer to that question is obvious.
-
You can not be serious you just can't be. If you believe that Minnesota vs UND would draw a larger national tv audience than 2 Big Ten schools than you have an unbelievably inflated sense of your schools national reputation. Let me clue you in on your schools national reputation. THERE ISN'T ONE. You and Siouxfanatic couldn't be more wrong on this issue if you tried. And explain this. Why did Wisconsin play Ohio State at Lambeau? I'll say it again. When you throw an event for the purpose of national exposure, you get 2 nationally known schools, therefore UND isn't even an option. This isn't rocket science. And Siouxfanatic, its not about OSU's hockey program. It's about their brand.
-
True. Those teams would have made perfect sense as well.
-
It makes zero sense to stage a large event such as this where you are looking for national exposure and then schedule a school like UMD, SCSU, or yes even UND. Obviously UND is as well known as it gets in the college hockey world but thats where it ends. OSU or Michigan were the obvious choices.
-
I don't see the M being taken away anytime soon and college colors don't get any better than Maroon and gold.
-
First of all, it's never too early to be tokin. Second, I just don't see what's so wrong with them. Basic block numbers, no weird distracting stripes. It's a very simple and clean design. The Buckeye leafs are unique, I like that part. And third, fans of Hill Murray look alike jerseys don't have ground to stand on in this argument. UND went from having some of the best uniforms to some of the cheesiest.
-
Those OSU jerseys are sweet. Basic stripes, nice basic logo on the front that you can clearly see from the upper deck. Not sure why people on here don't like them especially considering the high school look a like jerseys that UND currently wears.

Grand Forks makes fargo look like Minneapolis. People move from GF to Fargo, not the other way around.
-
But every game is on FSN if you count the alternate channel.
-
The Minnesota rule was put in place because of TV, not attendance.
-
Yes it would make perfect sense as he is a former Viking. Bottom line is you are making an issue out of nothing.
-
Exactly. It makes perfect sense for the Twin Cities media to mention they played at the U for a year as they ARE former Gophers. There's nothing strange about it and certainly nothing "embarrassing" about it either.
-
Its a great idea as TV ratings will be better. A lot more people are at home on a Monday night to watch it compared to Saturday. It's the same reason basketball does Saturday/Monday.
-
http://www.startribu.../212772541.html "Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux, who played one season for the Gophers before transferring to North Dakota, also made the team." Not sure what's so "emabarrssing" about the local paper simply noting they played at the U for a year.
-
Why is that embarrassing? They are former Gophers.

Come on, what did you expect him to say?
