  1. The new name will last longer than the oil.

Then it'll be historic and even better... people don't use thrashers to process wheat anymore but it was still brought up

  2. In my opinion;

    Tucked: Foul

Sizing: Hockey Jerseys look better loose, and even better when they are gamers.

New "North Dakota" without number: Doesn't look right, so foul.

UND alums on different era jerseys: If the jersey says "Sioux" and they played in a Sioux jersey (regardless of era/brand), fair. If they played only in a "North Dakota" jersey, then it should stay consistent. *Exception* Engelstad is fair in any style with correct number.

Personalized with your name: fair, I even don't mind it with a "C" or "A" because I'm a fan of patches.

Other team jerseys: totally fair, you paid good money for your jersey, wear it! But don't be bringing NBA jerseys to a hockey game though.

Nicknames on jerseys: fair if appropriate and no innuendos. I saw one this year with his Twitter @ username, found it to be very creative and I followed him because of that.

1/2 and 1/2 jerseys: Foul, pick a team/player and stick with it (unless you're a parent of the 2)

Jerseys with name and not numbers: Foul

Jerseys with numbers and not name: Fair

Name on jersey taped over/ X out: Foul

That's all I can think off off hand.

like this... especially with jerseys like #7

  3. With what is going on in the Bakken right now-rents are doubling, crime, totally inadequate infrastructure and manpower to deal with growth-do you really think the ND legislature will have the stones to put a football game up for a vote?

It only takes one legislator. Every bill has it's day on the floor in ND.

  4. ...and every time we lose be prepared for "Oilers get Drilled/Pumped" or "Oilers Dig Early Grave"...Although I like the thought of "Greasy Goals Lead to another Oiler Win"...yeah, there's a ton of headlines I guess...

to use this year's hockey team as an example... The Oilers refined as the season went along.

Sloppy Win? Oilers get crude win.

Good win? make a number of sweet jokes.

    Winning streak? Oilers keeping pumping.

  5. If we are the oilers we can play the blow-out scene from "There will be blood" every time we stomp someone. Also, it makes the lives of newspaper writers easy... "Oilers Drill (Opponent)". Everytime. No need for originality, we'll call it tradition.

If we have a comeback victory... "Oilers dig deep for win"... writes itself.

  6. I believe the Alumni Association usually has a list of watch parties that will come out later in the week. Guessing you're looking at something a little less formal, but for others across the country it should be linked to once its up.

Haha yeah; I haven't seen too many official Alumni Association events or set-ups in boomtown.

  7. Since Cincinnati is probably too tough for some people to go, I was wondering if people are setting up viewing parties. I didn't want a thread that was too specific, so I figured I'd make a place for all of them.

I am going to be in Williston this weekend and won't have too many people to watch the game with. I don't want to explain college hockey to some southerner sitting next to me at buffalo wild wings, so if anyone is in this area and would interested in a party, let me know and I'll set something up if there's enough interest.

  8. I didn't know they did that, but I also hate the "Always were/That's debatable" cheers after power plays. Hated it when I went to school at U of M, and really hated hearing UND fans saying it the last few years. Terrible.

I heard a guy in a random section scream "Beat team ever!" after every penalty kill. I loved every second of it.

  9. Sorry, ericpnelson, if the best that UND students can do is chant "F*** the Gophers" loud enough to be CLEARLY heard on my TV set, I'm all in favor of students getting tossed. The "Kyle Rau beats seals" sign, however, brilliant.

I think that's kinda cherry picking, and it falsely implies that was the only thing yelled that night. It's an extreme example, which hasn't been repeated. It was a rivalry game, in which we gave Kangas the business, school wasn't in so alcohol was allowed in the student section, it was a perfect storm. I'm just saying that eventually students stop trying as hard to cheer if the loudspeakers or band plays over you anytime they worry you'll do something that will cause a 4 year old to ask their parents a difficult question. I'm not expressing an opinion on where the balance should be, it's just a reality where both sides of that coin doesn't exist together.

  10. I don't know if this is turning into a Ralph bashing thread or not, but here was my recent experience (graduated '12, perfect attendance at hockey games, more than I can say for class). Sitting in the lower bowl was a worse atmosphere. It just was. You had a third of the section which were Sioux hardo's like myself who came early, but a lot of it was saved seats for friends and pretty people you hoped to be friends. I tried to stand up more enough where I got threatened to be kicked out. I knew what the rules were, I just kept trying the "but I thought there was going to be a big play" card. They caught on. As it got further into my college career, after the infamous few minute long "F the gophers" cheer, they got pretty tough on swearing and I know a few people who got tossed for it. Which, swearing is wrong, but you can't have it both ways. If you want a rowdy student section, it's going to happen. So it was stark difference from my freshman year where that stuff was the norm to my senior year were if I did the "who's he, he sucks s***" cheer I would get a half section full of dirty looks. It wears on students constantly to be told you can't do that, and you can't stand. Eventually they are a bunch of people who don't care as much around you, so you stick out looking like a jerk, so you sit on your hands more than you would have previously. They didn't really crack down on drinking then, you pretty much had to earn be thrown out for being too drunk, and they allowed signs still ("Kyle Rau beats seals" earned him shooting a puck at the glass in front of our group). Moral of the story though, anecdotally, there seemed to be a significant shift in focus from the raucous student section to a family atmosphere in my four years. It's not my call to decide where the appropriate balance is between those two places, but I think you're fooling yourself if you don't think they are abrasive to each other.
