  1. I was told it has nothing to do with how many people attend the Class B vs. the WDA and everything to do with how much money the Civic Center has to share with the NDHSAA. When all is said and done, they make more on the WDA.

The Class B will be the last tournament again starting next year and, according to the NDHSAA website, is scheduled to be in Bismarck.

    order's restored

  2. The last time the state B was in bismarck something around 12,000 people were in attendance to watch Parshall beat Trinity. I haven't looked but I doubt the WDA is that big of draw.... We are also ignoring how idiotic that Class isn't the last tournament of the year again as well. Say what you will about the competitiveness its the biggest drawing tournament. It's a social event now. They've ruined it.

  3. As opposed to playing Minnesota in the cozy confines of the Xcel Energy Center, in front of 8,000-10,000 of THEIR fans, vs playing in Bismarck, in front of 5,000-7,000 of North Dakota fans?

It was just a suggestion...especially since there don't appear to be many bidders for these things nowadays...

    2015: Fargo

    2016: Bismarck

    2017: Grand Forks

Since 2001, Manchester, NH, and Worcester, MA have hosted a regional. Both are within 60 miles of Boston. That streak will continue thru at least 2016, too. Hmnn...

I dont know about hockey, but the civic center holds more than 7k. I was there for dickinson trinity vs parshall when there was more than 11k

  4. Good point.

I'll offer one up...can we have Grand Forks, Fargo, and maybe even the Bismarck Civic Center make an effort to consistently host NCAA men's regional hockey tournaments?

I'm a big Bismarck civic center guy... Unbelievably pissed they don't have state B there anymore. Is the floor big enough for ice?

  5. Rich hockey history...that could define Minnesota, UMD, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Boston University, Boston College, Maine, Lake Superior State, New Hampshire, and any one of about 20 other NCAA hockey programs. Hell, Michigan Tech has rich history too. It's been 30-35 years since they've had a quality program year in and year out, but they do have a rich history.

The finest facility...DU's $75 million Magness Arena, Penn State's $88 million Pegula Ice Arena, and BU's $225 million dollar complex (which includes Agganis Arena) are certainly nothing to sneeze at. Neither are Mariucci Arena, Yost Ice Arena, or good old Alfond Arena up in Maine. If best arena or best stadium should guarantee success, can you tell me why the Red Sox are winning World Series' in a dump like Fenway? And don't answer "player salaries" because the Miami Marlins spent a boatload of cash on players in year one of their brand-new stadium and that was a disaster. If anything, the Red Sox cut some big salaries and found cheaper replacements this past season.

The most coveted position in college hockey...yet another opinion-oriented philosophy. If Dave Hakstol were fired tomorrow and an offer of a one billion dollar a year salary, an active oil well in Watford City, and being made lifetime Emperor of North Dakota was made to Jerry York, his answer would be "no." Sorry, folks, Grand Forks, ND isn't on the short-list of places to move to. And, as stated above in the facility argument...there are many schools that could claim to be "most-coveted" coaching job. North Dakota's one of them.

The "I've spent thousands on this team" argument...love, Love, LOVE this argument. The "because I have invested my time and money watching this team, there should be a return on my personal investment in the form of a national championship" philosophy. When I drop $10 on a movie ticket, I don't walk into the theater thinking "I'd better be watching an Oscar-worthy performance or I'm asking the manager for my money back." If I'm disappointed in the whole movie or just the ending, well, that's how it works. Now, if you want to head down to the locker room area and hang around after the game and wait for the chance to chew out Hakstol, his staff, and the 18-22 year old athletes for not meeting your expectations on the ice, that's your business. I'll just turn off the TV, grumble about the game, then turn it back on the next night and cheer again. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, I guess.

Before you retaliate with the "MafiaMan's against national championships" argument, I will ask you to reconsider. Just because I support Dave Hakstol doesn't mean I'm not getting antsy myself. And if Minnesota happens to pull a title out of their hat this season, my guess is that the heat on Hakstol will only be turned up a notch.

Hey man, some of us work really hard to keep those pumping and simultaneously maintain the ability to spell. How do we know that wouldn't push it over the top? It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Words can hurt Mafia.... words can hurt.

  6. I have been the guy keeping Wiki up-to-date with FB and BB recruiting over the last few years. Definitions of the four categories I use:

Players of Interest: This list starts with many of the better players from ND and NW MN. It does not necessarily mean that UND is seriously considering or even talking to them. As we learn, from a variety of sources, that UND is looking at a specific player (whether from Lakota or Phoenix), they are added to the list. I don't remove any players from this list as time goes on - unless the player moves to another list. I do note when someone has verballed to another school but when it gets closer to signing day, much less attention is given to these 100+ players. I am sure I am missing some of their verbals.

Offers: Quite self-explanatory. A player is added to this list when we are quite sure he has been offered via a reliable source. (See comment regarding sources below). The Mussman regime's philosophy was to make many offers very early. I won't get into whether I think that was a good philosophy or not but I assume offers will not go out in bulk as they have in the past. Whether there is a coaching change or not, offers are often withdrawn for a variety of reasons. Unfortunately, it is difficult to learn when that happens. Every year, there are undoubtedly still players on that list whose offer have been withdrawn.

Offered but Verballed Elsewhere: Also self-explanatory. I try to keep this as up-to-date as possible. It is interesting to see where guys we wanted end up - FCS, bowl division, accept PWO offers, etc. As noted above, there may be players on this list whose offer had been withdrawn by UND.

Verballed Commitments: These are obviously verbals to UND. I try to make sure they are fact before adding them. PWOs and Greyshirts are broken out. I leave the info about other offers there as this is also interesting to see how heavily recruited a player is, etc.

Sources: Pretty good info is provided through the national recruiting websites: Rivals, ESPN, Scout, etc. SFI, of course, is specific to UND FB and they do a great job. There are other state specific websites (WSN - WI, Edgy Tim - IL, etc) are also great sources. A great deal of the info comes from other SS.com members - Hambone, especially. Hambone (like myself) works on this year-around while others gets quite involved as signing date approaches. I have yet to get into social media but I know it is a good source and others pay a lot of attention to it.

While the Wiki recruiting lists are for all UND fans and anyone can make additions/revisions, I think it is best that only one person update it. A couple of years ago, 3-4 people were, with good intentions, trying to update the lists as new info was learned. Quite frankly, it got screwed up. I certainly don't have any ownership over this and if someone else would like to take this on, it would be fine. I would just hope that it would be someone who takes this seriously and works on it (BB, too) year around.

    you do amazing work

  7. A little help for those of us that don't know nothing about anything! What is wiki? It says:

    SiouxSports.com wiki

    Welcome to the SiouxSports.com wiki.

This is a web of pages about the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux, created and maintained by readers like you!

Browse and enjoy the content, and if you see something that you can improve or update, login and edit the page right in your web browser. Don't worry about messing up, your changes are all tracked and we can roll them back if necessary.

So when somebody says "according to wiki" they are looking here? Anybody with access to SiouxSports can update with what they hear and want to share? Rumors? Confirmed?

Thanks and be easy on me!

Yeah, the premise of a wiki is it's open to edit by anyone. Things on it seem to be better than rumors though. It's tracked who edits what, so the maintainer of the wiki can see if someone is obviously just putting bad info up there and reverse it.

It's a pretty handy deal. In this case, I had heard Bakersfield commit, so I went to the wiki, under football went to 2014 recruiting, and just did a ctrl+f for Bakersfield. Only one person popped up, so that rb was my assumption.

  8. Apparently a green and white sighting in Bakersfield today who are we looking at from there.

Apparently a green and white sighting in Bakersfield today who are we looking at from there.

according to the wiki, Stanley Dubard, a 5' 9" 195lb RB

  9. Cool! Thanks guys! Keep em coming! We appreciate it! Get in on the Super Bowl contest too if you would like. Its kind of a trial contest for now but when the FCS season comes around we plan on doing weekly contests and give aways for free gear of the University of your choice and/or gift certificates to the Big Sky Store. We're trying to keep the Big Sky Conference fans as interested & up to date as we possibly can. It should be a great 2014 season! All news and updates that we recieve will be posted so its just one click away from being up to date with every thing in the BSC. Thanks for the support guys!! Signing day is just around the corner, so stay updated! And if you have anything that you would like to add, don't be afraid to bring it up!

    Thanks for the inclusion

  10. The people that know what they are talking about said partial.

NDSU doesn't have a lot of money left and I'm guessing a full scholarship was already given to one DT commit.

    Thanks for the insight

  11. Thought this guy's name should be out there for people to ridicule regarding his tweet in reference to Jonathan Harris:

    Branden Sorensen@hawk1275 1h

@SiouxFootball seems like a thug, thanks Bubba.

This Sorensen guy is a tool. Oh no, Harris is black, has dreads, and is wearing a hoodie in his twitter pic!! Everybody hide your wife and kids! :glare:

Stu Whitney, sports editor of the Argus Leader, also took the liberty of calling Harris dumb over twitter. Very professional.

I agree with you that is it unprofessional. I do wish he would have spelled what correctly though in his tweet to avoid some of this attention. Glad to have him. Looks like the type of O-lineman we need to push around the rest of the 'sky.

  12. I played some elementary basketball as a member of the Wolford Wolves. I've always thought Wolves was a sweet mascot name. Makes for cool entrance videos, as long you pretty much avoid anything the timberwolves have done.

  13. I imagine Ezra is still a long shot to come to UND. I am sure the last thing Bison fans thought they would have to be worrying about would be the possibility of losing a recruit to UND that had already committed to NDSU . Even though he probably will still go to SU, it is fun watching the Bison fans squirm.

Are you trying to channel your inner gfhockey reverse pyschologist here?
