  1. So you're saying SDSU would beat the rest of the NCC teams? Lets not get ridiculous now.
  2. The Ohio state JC tourney is from March 5-7, so that would make sense. Also, there are 2 scholarships available for next year, so they are not in that great of a pinch money wise.
  3. The radio broadcast of the game last night was maddening, cutting in and out, so I tried listening to the game on the net, no dice. So I went ot the SDSU webcast. In Coach Nagy's postgame coments he talked about how his team couldn't have played worse and how the Sioux played extremely well. That got me to thinking, what game was he watching? It sounded like the Sioux didn't play well at all. I checked the stats, UND was outrebounded (41-34), had more TO's (15-12), and had a worse shooting % (41.4-38.3). In my book that is the SDSU playing better then the Sioux. I cannot stand it when a coach of a good team plays the propaganda war when his team almost loses to a not so good team, "we didn't play well, they did". I am not big on blaming referrees for things, bad calls happen, but I was realy confused last night. Ryp and Lindahl both pick up their 4th fouls 5 minutes into the second half with Ryp having 1 at the half and Lindahl having 2. The big guys apparently came out REAL aggresive at halftime. SDSU in the double bonus before the 10:00 mark of the 2nd half? Even the SDSU radio guy talked about the curious calls on the 2 bug guys and MJ early in the 2nd as questionable at best. It was a frustrating game last night.
  4. You're right, I remember a story form a few years back talking about him loving a Redskins jersey he had. also, it is no secret that he loves Bill Parcells and vice versa, the Cowboys are actually who they have talked about having the most interest in him as of a week ago.
  5. Stoute may be athletic, but that won't get you playing time. He is a foul waiting to happen every second on the court. Offensively, his best move is the right handed forearm to the chest of the defender, which has gotten called on him repeatedly this year, but he got away with it on his dunk this weekend. Gutter may have a 2-handed shot, but it goes in as he works close to the hoop. Nothing is being counted on him for next year, any positive contributions will be icing on the cake.
  6. I don't envy Coach Glas in how he will have to dish out PT next year, top to bottom it WILL BE the most talented team in UND history. Parks will be fine. He is shooting around quite a bit, and whole it will be his mobility that is in question, the guy is an incredible shooter from 15-20 feet out as evidenced by his FG%. Nobles is back, I think he can be counted on for 2 more good years at the point. The possibility for Stoute to redshirt next year is still there, my guess would be that it is up to him whether or not he wants to be at best the 5th big guy next year (Ryp, Lindahl, Wells, Gutter) or improve and get more PT the following year. Conventional wisdom says Austin will resemble more of the Aaron Austin we saw play at UNC a few years ago, whether or not that happens remains to be seen. There is a JC kid out there being looked a who is absolutely lighting up the scoreboard, whether or not he has the attitude is uncertain. Jacobsen's play has disappointed everyone. He is so indecisive with the ball and simply holds it 23 feet from the basket for no reason. He would seem to be the guy who will lose a chunk of PT next year. Harkins excites me, I hope he can redshirt though. The sight of Ryp and Lindahl with another 5-10 lbs on them makes them even scarier. Another PF/C type who can play right away may be the biggest need right now, while Wellsy is a pretty good defender, he is a black hole offensively who is too weak to play on the block. Next year looks real good with depth, offense, and playmaking. Nobles has to be able to play the tough on-the ball defense at the point UND PGs have always played.

And jake Marto is also almost 6-2 and about 180, not 5-8 160, which is about is older brother's size.
  8. Brett Winkelman to make his college decision soon, perhaps this weekend per theinsiders.com. UND is in his final 3.
  9. Not only all that, but St Cloud didn't cooperate by missing more then 1 free throw down the stretch, I looked last night and they were 18/20 on free throws (I believe). That made it tough. Aaron Austin is really starting to come around, he hit a couple of big shots. Also, announced attendence of 1900 and a few??? That is once again not even close. I thought that was the largest attendence at Hyslop this year, I'd guess closer to 3500, student section and reserved sections pretty much full, pretty good number in the horseshoe and on the ends. I am really starting to wonder what method, if any, is being used to tally attendence this year, the numbers as of late have been off by the thousands regularily.
  10. Oh, come on. The barn dances there rank up with the best of them, and the cow-tipping team is amongst the best that one can imagine. It isn't known as Hell's suburb for nothing.
  11. Coming from someone with a scewed point of view such as yourself, your opinion means nothing. That "dump" has seen more national champions and Elite Eight teams then Frost Arena, home of the high school gym pull out wooden bleachers, has ever seen.
  12. I think it needs to be said how much this Sioux fan is going to miss Hyslop. No place in the NCC can compare to it, the fans at Hyslop really are worth 10 points a game. It may be old, but it is a great place to sit/stand and watch a game, a place where the actions of fans aren't under great scrutiny and everyone has fun. There are so man memories in that place, Vonesh's turn-around jumpers, Gardner's 2-handed jams, Tuttle's sweet stroke, Dave Rettker and Chad Mustard's sometimes crazy antics, Rico Burkett running the offense. The bad memories will probably stick with me the longest, and the 2 worst are probabaly the women's blow-out loss to NDSU that ended their season in the early 90's when the Sioux were #1 in the country and the band got the Sioux a technical for playing during the game, and the men's loss in the regional to USD or SDSU, the team escapes me now, during Gully's SR year when Randy Rosenquist, the 6-4 bull that he was, hit a jumper with no more then 3 ticks on the clock, and Travis Tuttle missed a 3 at the buzzer that would've sent UND to the Elite Eight. My hope is that the Hyslop will be packed for one last regular season time this weekend and the Hyslop hysteria can cause deafening noise like itused to.
  13. I agree 100%. I'll pay attention to the new conference because IMO NDSU's level of succes will determine what UND's future holds. If that FB success is there early, I'm inclined ot think that the Sioux will move sooner rather then later, not to mention the fact that there is a new conference out there that is sitting at only 7 members, no doubt looking for more. The AD's (except Oien) need to be congratulated on their good and hard work in putting this conference together, it may be a blessing for the Sioux a few years down the road.

Interesting situation. On one hand I say the swimmers should know better, on the other it seems like much ado about nothing. Athletes are versed about these kind of situations every year, then again they seem like fairly innicent signs to me. The fault lies with the swimmers though, even if this seems like maybe the anti-nickname people may be going to extremes in siting this as an example of what they say goes on.
  15. I agree that it is early, but at the same time the Sioux lose far less talent this year as opposed to after the 2001 title team. In 2001, the Sioux lost All-Americans and 4 of the best players at their positions that we have seen in Cameron Paterka, Travis O'Neal, Eric Schmidt and Craig Riendeau. Not to mention all conference type performers in Mike O'Neil, Blaise Larsen, Matt Knudson, Dave Butler, Mike Crouse, Mike Bryant, Jed Perkerewicz (God I think I butchered that spelling), and Danny Graf. What is lost off of this past years runner-up team, Ben Olson, Dokken, Murphy, Stratton, Smith, Momerack, and the receivers. To me, the Sioux return a ton more for this coming year as compared to the 2002 season. There is unbeleivable depth on the defense and a QB and RB who have proved they can get the job done. I would expect everyone t0 have an inflated sense of optimism looking forwatd to 2004. I think the confidence should be there, if it wasn't I'd be concerned.
  16. There is no 5/8 rule in D2. An example is this year the Sioux men brought in 6 new guys, Gutter, Doyle, Austin, Parks, Nobles, and Stoute who are all on some amount of scholarship.
  17. I think that most here would disagree with you about the MIAA. This year there was ( I believe) a 5-way tie for first, in college football that is not the sign of a very good conference. The MIAA as a whole has gotten progressively worse the last 5-8 years IMO. They have Pitt St, a program that is good but seems to have passed its prime, and a bunch of teams that are up and down. Most here would also probably agree that replacing the MIAA with the GLIAC made UND's region much tougher, as the GLIAC has 2 of the best teams and programs in the country in Saginaw and Grand Valley. As far as the South goes, I am not sold on its strength. 2 of the best teams from the South got torn to pieces by UND and NDSU last year, UND beat UNA in the semis in a game that was much more lopsided then the score indicated, and NDSU crushed Tusculum. Granted they were both home games for the victors, but teams that are supposedly superior from a region that is supposedly that good should put up better fights then they did. I call the South very overrated.
  18. There was real disappointment by the coaches that Winkelman didn't give a commitment and sign during the early period in Nov, and I keep hearing that it looks more and more like football as time goes by. I'll find out what the deal is and post it. Brielmaier from Mankato hasn't signed or commited yet either, so he is still out there. Pretty much the whole NCC is after these 2 guys, and if UND can get one of them it would be good, especially Brielmaier. Wing guys are a dime a dozen, especially with the Juco kids wings the Sioux get every 2 years (Powell, Iverson, Jenkins, Lollar, Porter, Austin), but getting a FR inside guy who can redshirt and actually play is occuring less and less these days.
  19. You can't argue with success (unless it is the boring as hell San Antonio Spurs), so it is hard to be critical of anything Mussman has done. That being said, there are things everyone would like to see more/less of. For me, it is less bubble screens and more play-action passing on 1st and 2nd down, which have seemed to produce more big plays down field then all other plays combined the past 3 years. I understand the bubble screen, just think it can be used less then the once every series that it seems to be used, and of course that is an exageration. Then again, with Mussman at the head of the offense the Sioux have been to the national title game 2 of last 3 years, that is something that cannot be disagreed with.
  20. Great win last night, although I was having flashbacks to last year as I listened. Rype has been amazing lately, makes me think the Sioux have a shot to turn some heads at the conference tournament. Rype's success makes you wonder what the men's record would be if they could consistently hit an open jumper, which is where Keith Parks fits in (he shot an amazing 57.7% in the games he played, an astounding % for a jump shooter). With the Bison's collars being as tight as they are, SDSU, UNO, and Mankato are the teams I don't want to see in the first round of the conference tourney, i like the Sioux's chances against all other comers.
  21. UND 3.1% American Indian .8% African American 1.2% Asian descent 1.0% Hispanic 3.6% non-resident alien (foreign) 2.1% not reported 88.2% white NDSU 1.02% American Indian 1.31% African American 1.19% Asian descent 0.54% Hispanic 4.6% non-resident alien (foreign) 1.95% not reported 89.38% white Well, UND has a higher minority student population then NDSU. Perhaps we should assume that NDSU is the university of minority hatred, but no one is dumb enough to think that is the case. There goes your idiotic theory. Now take your moronic ideas with you and leave.
  22. And I thought you couldn't get any more ridiculous, that is the dumbest thing I have ever read. Grow up and get a life, there is no need at all for something that dumb to be posted let alone enter a rational persons thoughts.
  23. The recent cooperation between KVLY and KXJB is something that makes me as a sport's fan upset. It seems to be brought on by "Loder" taking over at KXJB, and also Peters having worked at KXJB. Seems lazy to me on their part. They air the exact same local game highlights on both stations, that seems to defeat the purpose. It makes the job easier for them though, but I have to doubt that the area viewers are too happy with that. That won't get viewers switched over from one station to the other on the ratings end of it, other then convenience and payroll I don't see any benefits from it.
