  1. Even so, the probelm still exists, and this current situation is a prime example, that the region is (it seems deliberately) trying to hold the NCC back. Let's face it, the current NCC is the ACC of D2 women's basketball, and even more dominant then that, and I don't think I am wrong suggesting that UND with its run over the past 15 years probably being the Duke of D2. And yet UND is being held back by a team, CSP, who is more like a mid-major, comparing them to a Gonzaga, a team which despite its great teams has never received a top 4 seed in the Big Dance(that will change this year, a 2 or 3) would be generous on my part. Knowledgeable people realize these things, even uninformed people realize these things, why is it so hard for D2 and the north central region to realize these things and make a change instead of doing things that are to the detrement of the real powers that do exist. It is D2 in a nutshell though.
  2. Exactly, that is why I said that, and I hate to say it, it is a actually a risk going to because the chance that you will be turned away at the door is pretty fair. If I were to go and be turned away at the door, needless to say it wouldn't be a good experience for the people at CSP.
  3. Kupchella is making it more of a priority, but he has other goals in place, chief amongst them are 1)giving out as many parking tickets as possible to drive up revenue, 2)getting enrollment up to 14,000 ASAP without adding parking for a few years (which plays into #1), 3)making life as hard as possible for the athletic department (like raising the minimum ACT to 22 which doesn't help #2), 4)carrying around the largest smug attitude possible and maintaining no social skills whatsoever, and lastly (5) making the students not like him as much as humanly possible. I am not a fan, and can understand completely if he rubs anyone the wrong way.
  4. Not a chance in hell that 4500 people get into that place, I'd venture a guess of no more then 2200 and very uncomfortably. Some of those seats have to be counting people standing up in the concession area. I hate to say it, but this regional isn't even worth taking the chance to go down for because there is a good chance you won't get in the door. And parking is a joke, there is a tiny lot for 50 cars behind the building, then pretty much only street parking after that. The streets getting in and out there are pretty small as well, that could be an adventure too. The more I think about this, and I was not too sure to begin with, the more I realize how dumb the NCAA's decision is.
  5. The weird thing is that 2 of the hottest coaching candidates as far as the BCS conference schools are McDermott and Ray Giacoletti. Giacoletti is opening some eyes at Eastern Washington, and he will move up aftert this year. McDermott, I am not too sure. The alma mater thing seems to be huge for him like it would a lot of people. He always seemed like a real level-headed guy who knew his priorities.
  6. I was there for the volleyball regional in November, and even it was run poorly. The first night, the UND game was the first of the tourney, and we couldn't get into the gym until it was 1/2 an hour before game time for who knows why, so we had to sit in the lobby/ticket area downstairs for a good 20 minutes with probably 50 other UND and UMD fans. The gym is enormous like I said, like the UND multi purpose gym, so crowd noise is pretty much a non-factor. What they did for thh volleyball regional was put laminated signs up on top of the bleachers on both sides. Wherever your team sign was, each team's fans were directed to, and that is where you were designated to seat, it was like a high school game or something. They also wheel in some metal seats like the kind at softball fields and throw 2 behind the basket. If that is how things are seated this weekend, I cannot even imagine what will go on. I was told by NDSU basketball players that the floor was terrible and the atmosphere was just the same. Despite its relative newness, the gym is a complete joke.
  7. It doesn't surprise me that they have no reserved seats at all. Their gym is very new, but the set-up is terrible. It is basically like UND's multipurpose gym, but with permanent seating on one end that they pull out. Then, on the bench side, they will wheel in some seats that look like they want to break, like the seats on the visitor's side at Memorial Stadium. There are 2 ways into the gym, one is a hidden hallway and the other is a very narrow staircase which is only 4-5 people wide. The concession area is at the top of the stairs, but it is tiny as well. The tourney is probably going to be a mess between and before games if more then 1000 people show up.
  8. Not sure about anyone else, but maybe I was am guilty of wishful thinking in all but expecting UND to move to #1 and host the regional. I looked at CSP's schedule, and there are quite a few games that were very close against teams with .500 records. Moorhead St played them close 3 times, they beat UW-Parkside in a close one, Northern St beat them and they are a .500 team, they beat East Central U whoever they are by 1 in OT, beat UMC in a close one, beat Duluth close 1X and lost to them another, and lost to St Cloud, a team which proved it couldn't play anywhere near where the Sioux are. While playing someone close doesn't mean anthing to me, repeatedly almost doing so against average teams gives an indication of CSP's level of play. To me, this blows away 2 yars ago having to go to Metro for the regional, because this year the NCC has 4 legit national contenders in UND, NDSU, SDSU, and USD, with St. Cloud beating some good teams as well. The NCC is almost being penalized for being so strong on the women's side, having several teams who can legitamently compete night in and out.
  9. That point is disspelled by the fact that UND moved up 2 spots for the regional by winning the conference tourney.
  10. What a crock the set-up here is. How CSP remains #1 after their loss today is unbelievable. I don't care about their record, UND and even NDSU's SOS has to be enormously better. We saw UMD play UND on the same day as the national title football game, they were not a good team at all, a team about the caliber of Augie. And the men's side isn't any better. UNO is the 3, SDSU is the 4, and USD is the 6, despite the fact that SDSU lost 3 of their last 4, 2 x's to USD. I cannot be alone in being really upset and questioning the system by this.
  11. Would the regional committee now look at Concordia in the same light they had looked at Northern Sun football teams, as inferior? I doubt it because of thier early season wins over NDSU and SDSU, but it has to be a valid point, especially now with one of their top players out. Also, the CSP gym is extremely new, but lacking severely in quality and seating, it might seat 2000. I was there twice in November, the same time the NDSU basketball team was there and playing at the tourney at CSP. I talked to one of the NDSU players I know, and she said playing on the court is brutal, not to mention the atmosphere. Will the committee look at the much, much larger gate they would get at UND or NDSU and play the money angle that was made easier for them to do since CSP lost. That wouldn't suprise me, it is the NCAA and they love they cash.
  12. WOW!!! Could Hyslop have a 1 last hurrah and host the regional?? The regional plot thinckens.
  13. Look at the game stats. UND had more turnovers, shot a lower %, and was outrebounded by 7. Those are not the vital signs of a team playing well (UND) against a team that played terrible (SDSU).
  14. My question is why would she ever devalue (is that a word?), put less emphasis on a game to her team and the media, especially on with big regional implications? That seems to go against the practice of every person who has ever coached in the history of sport. Or is it a cop-out for a loss, like Nagy saying SDSU played terrible and UND played really well the other day.
  15. Congrats to the Sioux women, NCC tournament champs. This sets up for an interesting scenario for the regional selection tommorrow. How much weight will be put on winning the conference tourney? UND should move ahead of SDSU at the very least, I'd be suprised if they aren't #2, and if CSP would cooperate..... well maybe not.
  16. Well Germel, I see exactly what everyone else sees, lots of fouls out of you. The stats don't lie. You played 222 minutes and commited 44 personal fouls, 1 every 5 minutes on the floor. Please check the stats, that is by far the most fouls per minute out of anyone on the team, Ryp is next at 1 foul every 9.5 minutes. What does that mean? Someone named Germel is extremely foul prone, and they aren't good fouls either. Everyone who goes to games with me says the exact same thing, so it isn't some pipe dream of mine.
  17. What??? UNO loses the best RB in the country, the most dangerous WR in the conference and one of the best in the counrtry, an all-conference TE, and arguably the best corner in the NCC, and at least 1 more all-NCC guy from a team that took 3rd in the conference. Omaha has multiple gigantic holes to fill on a team that didn't make the postseason. You can have a ton of players returning, but when you lose the franchise they aren't easily replaced. There aren't many people around who could agree with your opinion.
  18. Great, great win tonight by the women. That cannot be said enough. A loss tonight would have made the regional road pretty tough, this win puts the Sioux at a minimum of the 3 seed, meaning it should be an RMAC team in the 1st round. Nothing I like better, and yes that includes NDSU in hoops, then beating SDSU in basketball. It was a gutsy effort, and you have to say that our chances tommorrow night are better then average. The old addage of beating a team 3 times comes into play, and the 2 previous have been by a hair. It is great to see Mahlum hitting her shots again, she had struggled a bit down the stretch and hopefully can provide the same tommorrow night. Where is Jackguy, he seems quiet despite his "we'll see on a neutral court" talk. Hopefully the Sioux can bring a good contingent to Fargo.
  19. I didn't know that. Hopefully that plays against St Cloud, he really wanted to play D1, be it football or basketball, maybe Witt's Dad didn't help him get his name out . JK. That only makes it more interesting and heated, it may be a situation where he is really torn.
  20. I found this article, it says UND is recruiting 6-6 Brady Zubke of Park Rapids "heavily". I can't say I have ever heard of him, a sleeper maybe? Brady Zubke
  21. Close never got anybody anywhere. If playing a good team close meant anything, the Sioux men's basketball team was pretty darn good, having 3 close games with SDSU.
  22. So "next year" only 2 NCC teams could so much as "compete" with SDSU?
