  1. Somebody drop a Baby Ruth.
  2. What a waste. I'd be more in favor of giving $1.8M to each poor schmuck who hasn't already heard the tired case for mask wearing.
  3. Something to ponder: Nobody questions the existence of the baby boom, and everyone knows the "science" behind how that happened. Yet it seems that virtually no one can grasp the concept of a corresponding death boom. Death rates in the US were absolutely guaranteed to rise...oh [checks watch] about now. Denial of one's own mortality is a mental illness, often hidden behind a mask. I, for one, refuse to sacrifice living to appease those who would seek to live forever.
  4. Nearly five months later, I stand by every word in this post. Especially the last paragraph. Real-time COVID stats serve no purpose whatsoever, except to divide.
  5. And how is 2020 any different for these people than 2019, or 2018, or 2017? Mass hysteria about one virus strain hardly exonerates all the ones that came before. Where were the masks during the last 100 flu seasons? I’ll turn this right back at you...does harping and moaning and complaining about statistics perceived as grim by uninformed lay people serve any purpose? If I were compromised, or afraid, or vulnerable, I hope that I would accept my fate with a shred of dignity. And if I saw a single person curtailing their own activities, or freedom of movement, or sacrificing the joy of their children on my account, I would scream from my rooftop and beg them to stop.
  6. Quiz time. "I am a North Dakota resident. I see that COVID is going off the charts in North Dakota. I am going to ______ North Dakota." (a) leave (b) not leave Now put up, or shut up. A great many of us know all the stats and all the options and like our chances right here. And we don't exactly care to hear about how terrible you think things are.
  7. The only truth is that in a limited statistical analysis, ND is hamstrung by small population and aggressive testing. Blind reliance on "cases" reeks of ignorance, or worse, a desire to spin cherry-picked data to fit a narrative of fear. Throw all the cards on the table, correct for all of the gross discrepancies, and let's see if there's a meaningful difference between states. Why does it feel like so many people are promoting and/or posturing for worst-case scenarios? Bottom line is, are you dead? If not, are you sick? If not, live your freaking life and stop worrying about that over which you have no control. Tomorrow is promised to no one.
  8. Can't talk about "cases" without talking about total tests administered. Test more, find more.
  9. I've made it through the first half of my life without a mask. Encountered more than a few viruses along the way, I reckon. I'll be just fine getting to the finish without one. No matter how long the second half is going to be.
  10. Freeze them in carbonite.
  11. But a surge in what? Illness, or testing? Reporting positives and comparing to other locations (e.g., per 100k population) is meaningless if the other locations aren't testing at comparable levels. I'd put ND's numbers against anyone's so long as we're all willing to have a full and honest assessment with all cards on the table. Soundbite journalism is going to be the death of us all.
  12. A positive test means that the criteria defined by the testing protocol have been satisfied. Nothing more, nothing less. Things a positive, qualitative test does NOT mean: - correlation with sickness - correlation with any particular symptom - correlation with infectiousness/contagiousness - whether one is on the up-swing, peak, or down-swing of infection - depending on sensitivity, whether there is any active infection present at all - depending on specificity, whether a particular organism is present - location, manner, or time of transmission - infallibility (the test, methodology, and human participants can each introduce error) - controls were properly followed
  13. Literally making it up as he goes along. A teflon tyrant. Talking loud, and saying nothing.
  14. Omaha hemorrhaging badly this year: NCAA Mens Basketball 1st/2nd round, NCAA College World Series, NCAA Volleyball Final Four, Olympic Swim Trials. All canceled. Hard to deny them an opportunity for something.
  15. The Casper Star-Tribune. Can't imagine a better source for a story about a phantom crisis than a city named after a ghost.
  16. Random thought...how much money is it costing the Lightning to not be going on their deep run at home in Florida, where there is no state income tax?
  17. There's plenty to be negative about these days, and heaven knows that NCHC.tv hasn't always been perfect, but I received this in my e-mail today and I kinda smiled. I have to say...the fact that this vendor literally SUSPENDS your service at the end of the season, automatically RE-ACTIVATES it at the beginning of the next, and is even monitoring the current situation just makes me feel good. Can anyone name another service that literally leaves (your) money on the table by not making you jump through the hoops of start/stop/start? Thanks, NCHC.tv, for making my day.
  18. Sorry, but anyone who is pinning their survival in a global pandemic on POTUS is delusional. He merely inherited a role that from the country's inception has been ill-equipped (ostensibly by design) to micro-manage the affairs and day-to-day lives of its citizens, spread across an entire continent in 50 sovereign sub-units. We live in a global economy and in the jet age, and we enjoy (or used to enjoy) a free economy and freedom of movement, not to mention inalienable civil liberties. If you think the federal government could have prevented the introduction and spread of microscopic pathogens, well, I can't help you with that. P.S. - I'm no fan of Trump. But people need to get real.
  19. As with every other COVID stat, this is sorely lacking in context. What you call numbness about cause, manner, and number of deaths in any given week in ND (or anywhere, for that matter) was called blissful ignorance until a few months ago. And we all had it.
  20. 5 minutes of 3-on-3, followed by a shootout.
  21. No matter what, I'm guessing that the coordinates to Epstein's island will be written on the back of at least one of the new Declarations of Independence.
  22. Can you even have a constitutional convention on Zoom?
