  1. I'm not going to miss SUU... I hate their replays during action
  2. Shanks starting instead of Avants tonight, Avants is Out tonight
  3. So what you are saying is... we're getting the band back together?
  4. IIRC, The only "required" sponsored sports are M and W basketball, then they can pick a minimum of 4 or 5 additional sports on each side. So for example UND can do this Mens Basketball Indoor track outdoor track Golf Cross country Swimming Womens Basketball Indoor Track Outdoor Track Golf Cross Country Swimming Volleyball Non-Summit sports UND offers FB M/W Hockey
  5. This is getting off the rails a bit Now that the dust has settled on conference affiliation... what's the next move here? When does the shoe drop
  6. or who are they looking to add?
  7. Lakes is having a hissy fit on the GF Herald Facebook page.
  8. Of course the other side of the argument is a leader who doesn't listen to the faculty, called a dictator, not transparent, etc. if he made the cuts* *Not disagree at all with your point and my statement above to me is a ridiculous statement but after the blowback from the Schafer cuts its quite possible that is message would be spread instead (why anytime an article about budget cuts comes up people still want MT reinstated), I agree that he should have bitten the bullet back Oct/Nov and made the cuts. Unless this is a way to tell the faculty: Well I gave you the chance that you asked because of what happened when Schafer did the cuts and you stated you don't want to cut anything athletically and I went along with it. Now that there is further cutting needing to be done that is mandated by the state, I will be tasked with it. If UND is going down this rabbit hole once again, they need to come out of this with cuts. You cannot keep crying wolf on this. I don't like saying that but its the truth.
  9. If we are going off of the article Biz posted on Saturday it really does look like the direction this is going.
  10. UND finished an impressive home sweep last weekend by taking down ISU 89-64, despite a concerning first minutes. UND heads back on the road for a rematch from earlier this month against SUU, who has really fallen off the map with 5 straight losses. UND is now 7-3 all time against SUU in conference play, but only hold a 2-2 record against them in Cedar City (but have won 2 straight at SUU) In the 1st matchup UND defeated SUU 95-65 and looked decent doing it. Without Drick, all 5 starters for UND scored in double figures, held SUU to 27% shooting (they got half their points on the free throw line (32-42). UND wasn't playing all that well in the first matchup, but they are an improved squad since then. UND got through their tough stretch of games 3-1 and now enter a softer part of the schedule these next two weeks. With the teams in direct competition of UND for a top 3 spot all batting each other over the next two weeks, this is a golden opportunity for UND to gain some much needed separation going into February. After this weekend, roughly half the conference season will be finished. Fun stat: UND was a perfect 10 for 10 from the line against ISU and now have brought their season percentage up to 69%, still room for improvement but its a solid jump from what they were at not too long ago. Other games: EWU (5-2) @ Mont (5-3) Montana was sitting pretty after beating UND, and then the west coast trip happened. Now the Griz go home to a rematch against a scrappy EWU team that wants to finally break through with a big win. EWU can make a statement with a win in Montana, Montana wants to get a key sweep and get back on track. Idaho (4-3) @ MSU (4-4): 3 weeks ago, these teams were struggling to get going. Now? Both teams are running with 3 game winning streaks and are back in the hunt for a 1st round bye. Idaho has a chance to get an important sweep of MSU and perhaps re-establish itself towards the top of the standings. MSU needs to protect home court if they want to have a shot at that 1st round bye. PSU (4-3) @ SAC (3-4) What do you do when you beat Montana? Lay an Egg against MSU of course! If you would have told me that both teams would split against the Montanas I would have said they both beat MSU. Not the case. another rematch where PSU won at home, can they get the sweep and stay on track. Can Sac State turn it around and make a little noise here going into the 2nd half Weber (4-1) @ ISU (1-5) *Wednesday: This game will resume with Weber up 13-2. These team will play twice in 3 days, can ISU start putting it together and make a 2nd half charge? Weber had a tough road trip with a loss to UND and winning a squeaker at UNC, they look to get back on track. The call: UND is playing at a high level and can even be better than how they are playing. They need to keep that going and get these two road wins this week and get back home 8-2 in conference play. Starters should have good numbers again and I see a similar result from the first matchup but my score will be a bit more conservative. UND 82-60
  11. I really didn't see this coming. Atlanta looks really good, got to think they would be favored in either matchup
  12. Could this be the Packer version of 41-donut?
  13. Weber, EWU, SAC, MSU, and Idaho all winners tonight. Up to date standings Weber 5-1 UND 6-2 EWU 5-2 Mont 5-3 PSU 4-3 Idaho 4-3 MSU 4-4 SAC 3-4 UNC 3-5 SUU 2-5 ISU 1-5 NAU 1-6
  14. Maybe ISU can do us a favor and beat Weber in one of their two matchups next week
  15. Women complete the road sweep with a 65-62 OT win over ISU 7-1 in conference play. Two weeks away from the big showdown game in Greely with UNC. Got to take care of business at home next week first with SUU and NAU
  16. ISU punched UND in the mouth for the 1st 10 minutes, but they recovered. When UND punched ISU in the mouth in the start of the 2nd half... they didn't recover. Geno had a tough night but Corey step up and hit some big shots, Seales had a great game off the bench. Hooker missed getting his 1500th career point by 1 today. Survived the potential letdown game and now road tilts against SUU and NAU coming up, let's get back home 8-2 in conference play
  17. wake up guys. too fast on offense and slow on D. They'll get it together
  18. Just avoid the let-down game and all will be good. Defend the home court
  19. Twins need to start making some progress, getting off to a good start this year might help to take away some of the negativity. The team might be overshadowed by the Wild, Wolves and United all through the spring if things break right so they need to make some good headline with their play. I would love to see Buxton and Sano get off to hot starts.
  20. You would think this would be a simple plan: Decide the conference situation first (no inside info but I think its an all or nothing propositions, its Summit/MVFC or Big Sky). I don't think the MVFC really wants to be at 11 and wonder if they are trying find that 12th member. I also don't think the Big Sky really wants us as an affiliate. Then go back to cuts, get Faison and the other Big Wigs in athletics involved and them only. If anyone on campus complains, point back to the IAC. We went this way and this is what happened. Now we will try it another. Or you can reverse the order and it will still be fine (you can do the cuts and still be fine in both leagues)
  21. UND got a key victory at home over Weber, now they must turn the page and take on an ISU team that they have never lost to since joining the Big Sky ISU was picked as one of the top teams in the Big Sky and with Big Sky POY candidate Ethan Telfair leading the charge, why wouldn't they? Well things haven't gone their way so far. They have gotten off to a rough start in conference play. Although they did notch a road win last night over UNC last night. Telfair and his backcourt buddy Brandon Boyd will be another nice challenge for the UND guards, they are looking to finally break through against UND and end this long streak. UND has a softer part of their schedule coming up and has an opportunity to pile up some wins going into the month of February. However, they cannot become overconfident. They must continue their high level of play. *Stats: Last 3 games for Geno: 27 ppg, 61.3 FG%, 62.5 3 %, 81.4 FT% 4.7 APG, 3.7 RPG Other games: MSU (3-4) @ PSU (4-2). This is a big game for both squads, PSU got a big home win over the Griz and is looking to push itself to the top of the standings. MSU is looking to their 3rd win in a row to get back into the race for a 1st round bye. NAU (1-5) @ Idaho (3-3). Idaho looking to make it 3 in a row before traveling to Montana next week, looking to right the ship and climb back towards the top. NAU just trying to get things going. SUU (2-4) @ EWU (4-2). Reality setting in for SUU, who has now lost 4 in a row. EWU looking to keep their surprising start going before a big road swing in Montana next week Weber (4-1) @ UNC (3-4) Weber looking to bounce back after a tough loss to UND. UNC falling back to earth a little bit as well Mont (5-2) @ SAC (2-4) The Griz dropped a surprising game against PSU on the road and looking to bounce back and stay near the top of the standings. SAC looking to make it a rare 0-2 road swing for the Griz and get back into the mix. The call: UND must avoid the potential let-down game after an emotional victory at home. I wouldn't be shocked if UND got off to a slow start because of it. With that said however, I look for Geno and Hooker to outplay Telfair and Boyd and UND's frontcourt to get back some of their lost confidence from the last couple of games. I say UND wins comfortably and get ready for the SUU/NAU road swing. UND 79-64 *Notes: With 17 points, Quinton Hooker will reach 1500 career points
  22. Why should they care if there is more Minnesotans than North Dakotans that go to UND/NDSU/etc. They should be happy that they are leaving to go to North Dakota instead of staying in Minnesota for roughly the same price (from a MNSCU perspective).
  23. EWU, PSU, MSU, ISU, and Idaho all winners The standings Weber 5-1 UND 5-2 Mont 5-2 PSU 4-2 EWU 4-2 Idaho 3-3 MSU 3-4 UNC 3-4 SUU 2-4 SAC 2-4 ISU 1-4 NAU 1-5 Makes tonight's win THAT much more important
