  1. Basically Hakstol was handed talent up the ass and made it close but never actually won. Mussman inherited nothing and won that GWC with a team that lacked talent all over the place. Still not a national championship but they were not eligible at the time (not saying they would have since they didn't have enough D1 wins). My main point is. Mussman has gotten a bad wrap from the start. For no reason really. Hakstol was anointed after making it far but not getting the job done with Blais' players. Why is that? Who knows. Maybe Mussman needs to grow a mustache.
  2. Talent inherited. Muss inherited almost nothing for talent. Bohl had a full cupboard. Bohl then blew it and then fixed it. Mussman has had to build from scratch.
  3. My bad I was talking about the end of the post with hockey involved. Hakstol to Muss. 0-0.

We actually had some decent runs on the first two drives. After that it was non existent.
  5. And how many national championships has either won?
  6. I'm sure Zenner was getting a little tired. We also started to stop the run so maybe they thought they could catch us off guard with throws. They had a couple openings late in the game on passes that were either dropped or miss fired. Is it possible that the players for SDSU got buried by big Mo? Their whole team was on their heals for a while in the 4th cause we were steam rolling them out of nowhere. I think the reason it looked like the coach took his foot off the gas was because they were getting stopped.
  7. On offense they did the same stuff. Our D just showed up and stopped them. They softened up on D and then we started rolling and there was nothing they could do other than the late INT. They were still aggressive on offense on their drives when we stopped them.
  8. I'm thinking those records with beating 1 Montana school and splitting with EWU and NAU for 8-3. That's not outlandish. 7-4 is a real likely record.
  9. Right now I feel like 8-3 or 7-4 are probable so this thread seems pretty pointless to me
  10. If that happens I want Kotelnicki as HC. I don't care what people think about hiring from within. He and Schleusner are stud coaches.

5 of the top 7 tacklers last night for us were LBs or DL. That is a very good thing. Darryl Brown had a great game and lead the team as a corner but the LBs actually made some plays last night against what is the most physical offensive line we will face all year. Mike Edwards had a huge game for a FR and Ben Hensen showed he is more effective as a DE. Best of all was Dom Bennett asserted himself. He had 3 QB hurries a sack 2 tfl 6 total tackles and best of all, even though it was a dumb penalty, he took Cam Jones (SDSUs 6'5 250 lb TE and threw him to the ground like a rag doll. It was a penalty but it set the tone for how Dom was going to play the rest of the game. He made good on his potential finally. Also I have to give Goard a shout out again. He only had two tackles but they were BIG. He also crushed Zenner on a pass rush and ruined the timing of Sumner on the play. We need more of him rotating in at ILB.

Anyone at the game remember when SDSU had that uncalled delay of game when the center couldn't hear Sumner desperately pleading for the snap? It brought me back to 2001 when that was a common occurrence in big games. Next week we need to make it that loud but we need to do so before everyone leaves. We have a huge advantage and haven't really used it in years. It's a good feeling when as a fan you can literally help your team in a tangible way.
  13. The short field SDSU got on that fumble was tough.
  14. I'm not in love with Mussman. I did, however, actually notice the improvements made as the game went on last night. We killed them late in the game and the defense work up. Kotelnicki was blitzing alot and we were very very close on some of their big plays to getting a big sack or tfl. The players need to finish those plays. I'm not worried about Mussman, Kotelnicki, Scheusner, Boyd, and Nurse. Those guys are great coaches. The new oline coach Cunningham has some work to do as does Myers. Schwenzfeier needs to play more than one back. The season is young and there is alot of coaching up to be done. Last night the coaches put the players in position to win and they didn't execute until the late 3rd quarter. Things appeared to click last night late in the game. It's up to everyone in the program to build on that.
  15. Zenner. No contest. He's not as shifty but he's 220 and wayyyyy faster. He's a machine and durable. He didn't look tired once last night and had almost 40 carries.
  16. You are really ornery after this one. Maybe you should temper your over the top enthusiasm and also step away from the ledge when things don't work out. We lost the game. The team will use it as motivation and take away multiple coaching lessons from it and be better as a result. The football team will move on to the next game today. I suggest you do the same.

You have to run the ball to soften up the D. I don't think Miller should start anymore. Shaugabay can make something happen where Miller can't because he isn't capable of breaking tackles. Imagine the change of pace for a defense if we put in Shaugabay out of nowhere after they had gotten used to tackling 160lbs of Miller. He'd blow somebody apart and get the line going.
  18. Yea, fire the who camera crew or have them take notes from NFL games today. HD doesn't mean you need to zoom in to see the perspiration on the QBs knuckles.
  19. Just to add some level headedness to this post game talk. Imagine before the game I ask if we have 3 turnovers 10 penalties for 100+ yards and Zenner goes for about 300 yards what do you think the score would be? Would anyone including myself have guessed we only lose by 7? Hell no. Just think about what our young team is capable of. If the line can get it together and if we play some RBs other than Miller our offense can roll anyone. The defense that played in the second half was intense and desperate for every stop. If they play like that consistently, which they should, we will win alot of games. We're 1-1 and have 5 more home games that we just proved are winnable. That's something to be excited about.

If he still gets picked that would just mean more time on the clock and sdsu can't do victory formation and maybe get the ball back one last time.
  21. With how the line was 'protecting' today throwing off the back foot was the only option for either guy way too often. Joe is more able to get away with that because he throws easier and is a better athlete. The main reason I think he's the guy is he showed 'it' tonight.

I also loved how the coaches had Jackson lined up all over the place. He started off pretty shaky with bad drops but then he settled in and started to make plays. Matchup nightmare.

I just watched the highlights and didn't realize that the throw Mollberg made where he couldn't really step into it went 55 yards in the air......... holy !@#$, this kid has all the tools.

Unfortunately it's not just on the coaches. The players I mentioned should start but do we know that they have the playbook down like the starters? There's always that unseen preparation that goes into earning the start. I hope some changes are made based on how guys played tonight though. Some people really proved themselves valuable. O and play Shaugabay for Christs sake.

The penalties need to be cleaned up. A few were total BS but still. The pass D was ok tonight. Darrel messed up once that I saw. Goodman was in a tough spot on the TD but was in very good position and almost broke it up. They dropped a few easy ones but they certainly weren't wide open like in the past. If the D can play like they did down the stretch they may start making plays like they used to. As for the size up front. Spencer Cummings is 6'4 280lbs. That a huge DE. Did he make any plays? No. Having the size is nice but I'd rather have a player who is not as big but isn't soft and plays nasty.
