They wanted him fired before they won that Super Bowl. Players were calling him out in the media. It seemed like a dead situation. Then it what appeared to be his do or die season they started 0-2 and everyone thought they would tank. Then they went on a tear and beat the 'best team ever' in the Super Bowl. He did not have equity built up. He was coaching for his job like Mussman now has to do.

There are legitimate similarities if you look at it objectively.

This situation is reminding me of Tom Coughlin and the Giants a few separate times over the past few years. There have been multiple times where the media had reported that he had lost his team, they didn't like him/respect him, and he just wasn't coaching them well. Multiple times they turned things around and turned out to be a tight team with a tough coach and they made the playoffs and won a Super Bowl. I'm not saying this is the same situation but there are some parrallels.

What made UND great and will make UND great again

It's kind of strange to think that there could be a positive from Saturday but we kind of ran the ball.... I was almost impressed with that. The linemen made something happen more than once. The only problem was that it was Miller only and not Shaugs Sparks and Garmin as well. Need to run and take pressure off of the QBs who after all are still fr. Time to focus more on the running game and make life easier for the qb. -

We would dominate the Big Sky playing the style of football we used to with a smashmouth defense power run game and extremely efficient and sometimes explosive passing game. -
He's got captain written all over him. Probably a multiple time captain.

He had a totally different look to him at the Shrine Bowl compared to the other players. And from what I heard he's the type of guy you'd wish every recruit was.

And Hak for that matter. -
UND did get the top player in ND Dustin Iverson last year. Obviously he got his shirt pulled and is already a leader of the younger players.

College game day in Idaho. I knew it.

I feel like the coaches have learned their lesson about recruiting too many coastal kids from Cali and Florida and Texas. The only one that really panned out was Ankenbauer. The last few classes have been more Midwestern which is nice to see. The best athletes on our team are Midwest guys. We don't need to sell out for some over rated players from coastal states that won't but in to the program when we can find tougher harder working kids that will be better football players and students. They learned their lesson from Mackey Hall and Watkins. It's just not worth it.

It is a problem that the defense catches blockers instead of blowing them up. The DBs don't ever got off of blocks other than Darryl Brown. Same goes for the LBs and most DL. Edwards gets off blocks and moves people but other than him it's a whole lot of patty cake being played.

I still want to see Butler out there. Man does he look the part.

Don't forget to bring back Blais. -
I'd like him as an OC.

I'm watching a recording of 'When They Were Kings' and getting a lot of memories of what UND football used to look like and what it looks like now. The beginning of the program shows the ineptitude of UND in the late 80's against NDSU and it's like watching replays from the Montana and MSU games. Then thesecond part of the football program comes on and I see highlights of UND's defense and guys are destroying opponents. Then there are highlights of the offense. The QB's were always accurate at least and the power running game was a constant. Then come the Kleinsasser highlights.... he's bigger than our offensive linemen. The biggest differences though are the heart, passion, and grit that the players played with. So what made UND great?

It doesn't get any better. Maybe Hopslam.

Tailgating and beer go hand in hand. Go to tailgating beer anyone? Also has anyone had any beers from Crows Peak out of Spearfish SD? They have an IPA that goes down smooth and is 6.5% ac.

Half is not most. Also they should play Edwards and Chestom way more. I always wonder if Carothers could be an OLB. I'm also curious why we haven't seen Rich or Butler other then on special teams. Both looks physically able to make an impact.

-
Golladay, Edwards, Anderson, Carothers, Iverson, Kuksa, Meindel and Cheatom. All of these guys have made an impact this year. We're talking about true fr so and rfr here. All of these players have shown promise compared to the upper classmen. If these guys are mentally tough they'll want to be apart of the solution and turn things around. If not, I don't want players that lack mental toughness and conviction like you see with some of the upper classmen.
-
Those guys are also not NDSU guys. It's different with guys like Fuchs and Vigen.

Tennis will probably never be good. It's ND. Not a place for tennis. When was the last time softball was good? Brewster seems like a good coach. That remains to be seen. The soccer coach seems legit. That program had been terrible though. Hardee and Idolski have been great.
-
I actually never said he was good. I just didn't want to fire a coach with the circumstances he had early on. He did a decent job in 2010 but other than that it's been grasping for straws to find positives.

All of his hires look pretty good actually.
