So the success of the petition process has no effect on the success of the litigation. You're saying it has to be done to prevent something from happening 3 years from now (look who's screaming "what if" now ). So, the obvious question here is, why not wait until then??? Why must UND be punished in the short term on its way out of transition when the athletics department is the most vulnerable? I'm just trying to understand why you people (who say you care about UND) are doing this.

Losing eligibility to compete in playoffs if UND keeps the name?? UND loses the ability to host nc$$ playoff games, not to play them (unless we refuse to wear an alternate jersey). That "article" may have had less facts than SAB. It was written by a moo U student so the fact that a majority of the words were spelled correctly is impressive. Know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em. The state throwing more money at the name will simply result in more money spent. The name will be just as gone or the University will be just as hurt. Spirit Lake's lawsuit could potentially save the name, but the laws, consitutional amendments, etc. do nothing but harm UND.

I don't think Matt was saying it's unlikely UND gets the boot, I think he was saying it would be a VERY uncommon thing in the world of NCAA athletics if it happened. Which shows how rare just having the commissioner talk about kicking out a member is.
