The only reason the Sundogs name is still a part of this process is because it has historically had the support of the small group of people who fought hardest to remove the Fighting Sioux name. The support for the Sundogs name dates back over a decade. Sundogs is not acceptable.

This UC Davis team is tough. A lot of very average looking people.

Commissioners are similar to politicians, they have to get out and "press the flesh" every once in a while. All 3 conference commissioners knew the game was a big deal for both schools. I wouldn't read into it much more than that.

I really hope they maintain Grady's redshirt and this is just being done as motivation.

They were selling at the ndsu game out of a van. I'd like to see them made an example. They fully know what they're doing and they defaced a beautiful logo in an attempt at being cute.

I like, and prefer, the idea of being in the Big Sky Conference. I view the western state schools as being more desirable culturally, academically, and geographically, than the east (Indiana alphabet soup? Really?). However, the casual fans (see: majority) do not seem to be embracing/recognizing how good it is/could be. Leading up to the game this past weekend, I had multiple UND alumni tell me how it's cool UND and ndsu are playing each other, even when UND is in a lower division. I quickly corrected them and pointed out that UND is in the same division. They would then say "well UND is in a lower conference" than ndsu. I'd quickly point out that UND is in the Big Sky with Montana, the team that just beat ndsu. They'd say "Really? Huh, I didn't know that." I'm not sure if it's the work of imperial Cass, poor marketing by UND, some hockey only fans who don't pay any attention, or a combination of all of them, but UND and its conference are viewed as being far less than ndsu and its competition. If a home can be found for football (either MVFC or BSC affiliate), UND should seriously consider a move to the Slummit. Regardless of the Big Sky being the better conference for UND (and the rest of the Dakotas, IMO), perception is reality in this business and right now the perception among the casual fans in this region is that UND is in a crappy conference with crappy schools.

Roughriders is #1 for me. I'm not completely opposed to Nodaks, it's just boring. I've never viewed the term as offensive and Philadelphia Phillies and Illinois Illini both seem to work. As for the others, Fighting Hawks is just a horribly weak attempt to hold onto "Fighting" (I could accept "Hawks"), North Stars is Minnesota's (I could accept "Stars"), and Sundogs stands absolutely NO chance of reuniting the fan base. The ideal (and somewhat plausible) UNDBIZ conference: All Sports UND, NDSU, SDSU, USD, UM, MSU, Idaho, Idaho St, UNC (9 schools for 8 conference games) Non-Football Schools UNO, Denver, UMKC (12 schools split into 2 6-team divisions (western division and I-29 division) for bball. Play 5 division teams twice and 6 other teams once, for a 16 game schedule). Conference tourneys would rotate between Denver and Sioux Falls. I just can't see UNI leaving the MVC.

Personally, I'd prefer not to waste Grady's best year for his worst in an already shortened season, especially when reports on this site have indicated he isn't really ready yet.

I don't care what the logo is for Sundogs, I just don't want BRIDGES to win..... again.
