It Butler wins the tournament, then they are the champion. If you choose not to participate in the tournament, you forfeit any claim to the championship (and should probably just drop the sport).

If your conference doesn't participate, you don't get to be the champion. That's not the fault of the team that became the champion. So the hockey and basketball tournaments are also flawed?

No I get being upset about the brackets. But USA isn't looking at a possible 4 seed because of Canada being in its bracket. In the case of being the 4 seed, we would have lost to Slovakia and Finland. Also, the changing of the bracket to make Canada play USA wasn't really doing Canada (the silver medal team) any favors either.

With the way things have been for the team this past year, that's enough reason for me. Whether the team culture truly is off right now or not, the perception isn't good. But also, we already have 2 seemingly capable juniors and a freshman. Don't really need another upper classman.
