  1. actually have read your posts for quite a while on cs and ags and even venture over to egriz occasionally, alpha. enjoy most of them. but, sometimes it seems like you just want to pick a fight.

so the question I pose is why do you pick SUU as a loss and Cal Poly as only a maybe? I think SUU will be so disheartened (and maybe beaten up) by the time they play UND that UND will win that game even though the Fighting Sioux will be coming off two weeks against Montana and Montana State. I, like most UND fans, am hoping for a split those two weeks.

on the other hand, you give the team formerly known as the Fighting Sioux only 4 conference losses. 4 and 4 would be a respectable (not great) rookie year in an established conference like the Big Sky.

with the conference schedule UND has this fall and adding Portland as a non-conference game, you would probably agree only SUU's looks tougher on the surface. a 5 and 6 record is not as bad as one would expect from an established Big Sky prognosticator such as yourself. 6 and 5 is definitely a possibility and 7 and 4 is attainable (EDIT: and 8 and 3, 'cause, why not, these guys could do it!)

its going to be an exciting year for UND athletics. welcome to siouxsports, alpha.

  2. Andrea Kremer recently interviewed Jackson for HBO. I don't have HBO, but on Tuesday's Doug Gottlieb radio show, she said Jackson sounds like he would like to coach coaches in how to guide winning teams. Realizing he has shown little interest in UND since his playing days here, would it be possible to get him to do that for Coach Jones?

  3. Where was the organization 3 years ago? Where were the vast majority of NA nickname supporters when a simple vote at Standing Rock could've prevented all this? You claim to have so passionately fought for the nickname but why were you not camped outside Standing Rock tribal council meetings demanding that a vote of the people be taken? You should be angry with youself for being so late to the party when the deadlines of the settlement were publicized for all to see.

Wouldn't have even needed Standing Rock's approval in 2005 - 2007. One tribe (Spirit Lake) would have been enough.

  4. And those that were cheering changed their tune after Al's 15 minute meeting with the NCAA. It was at that time that most understood the NCAA wasn't budging and those that were cheering started to prepare for the retirement. Everyone of those people who made the trip to Indy understood this after that meeting, some were just a little more vocal than others. There is nothing wrong with changing your opinion on something as the situation changes.

Isn't the street definition of insanity 'continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results'? As more details became clear (such as the NCAA meeting with Dalrymple, Carlson, Kelley, et al), many of us realized the NCAA would not change their position, so UND and North Dakota had to.

Add that to the wear factor. The ongoing battle just wore the casual observers out. I heard, from students especially, that its just time to move on. Not everyone is as passionate about the nickname as regular posters on siouxsports.com.

  5. yeah...

    http://en.wikipedia....Timothy_McVeigh

    http://www.telegraph...ial-killer.html

These dudes had own version of Jihad.

Maybe you need to realize it has nothing to do with race. Every race has their version of nut jobs.

Believe me, I do not disagree. I am just as bothered by the Jeffrey Dahmer's and Timothy McVeigh's. My problem is when someone says they are in it for the good of everyone, but their version of everyone is not really everyone. Political correctness is not about being equal, it's about imposing someone else's version of equality on others.

  6. The PC crowd fights "for" my rights? When I lost my job in 2008, I lost my retirement staying current on my bills for the year I was out of work. Since I was not behind, my mortgage could not be adjusted to a lower interest rate. Thank you PC zealots for fighting for me.

The PC crowd does nothing for those who work hard, they are consumed by the fact that I might "offend" someone for the color of their skin or the accent in their voice. I challenge you to tell me that a blue eyed blonde named Ole or Lars flew a jet filled with innocent people into a building filled with more innocent people eleven and a half years ago. We have become a nation that coddles murderers but does nothing for those families of the murdered, where criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens and because you are black, red or yellow you can impose your beliefs and say whatever you want to me, but since I'm white, if I reply with anything other than an apology, I'm a racist.

  7. You have to give Dave credit for one thing... He is way ahead of the curve in hating the new nickname. We all know it will pale in comparison to The Fighting Sioux, and will be something vanilla that the PC crowd wants. Most, if not all, of the people who post here regularly will go on and on about what a poor choice has been made. Dave will be able to say those 3 words... "told ya so"

  8. How can you be a fan of those guys? None of them play for the Sioux.

I would also presume that you must specifically despise Hrkac, Parise, Toews, Oshie, and the hundreds of others that willingly left the Sioux before their eligibility was up. You must brand them as traitors to the Sioux Tradition. Any "real" Sioux fan should.

Surely, just like the University, none of these former players deserve your respect..................... :silly:

    +1. :)

  9. don't want to get in to this debate, but a few of the D-I schools that have changed their names:

    Arkansas State Indians

    Dartmouth Indians

    Marquette Warriors

    Miami (Ohio) Redmen

    Seattle Chieftans

    St John's Redmen

    Stanford Indian

    Syracuse Orangemen

    Local (off the cuff):

    Dickinson State Savages

    Morningside Maroon Chiefs

EDIT: As Hayduke says in the next post - these teams didn't seem to suffer.

UND will survive as North Dakota ...(insert nickname here)

  10. beware the PC crowd and their current trend of weather phenomena, (Heat, Thunder) or inanimate objects (Wild, Nationals) or even worse the people that are naming MLS soccer teams (Real Salt Lake, Houston Dynamo, Philadelphia Union, Sporting Kansas City, etc)

  11. Big Sky Conference fact of the day:

The Big Sky Conference was established in 1963 by six charter members:

    Idaho (1963-1996)

    Idaho State (1963-present)

    Gonzaga (1963-1979)

    Montana (1963-present)

    Montana State (1963-present)

    Weber State (1963-present)

    Members since then have been:

    Boise State (1970-1996)

    Northern Arizona (1970-present)

    Nevada (1979-1992)

    Eastern Washington (1987-present)

    Portland State (1996-present)

    Sacramento State (1996-present)

    Cal State Northridge (1996-2001)

    Northern Colorado (2006-present)

What is impressive is the stability. Are there really only 5 teams that have left the Big Sky in 50 years?

  12. If this situation were opposite and NDSU were in the Big Sky and UND was in the Summit what do you think the reaction would be out of Fargo. If UND was in the Summit and the Summit was starting to fall apart because ORU and probably Oakland were leaving and it was quickly becoming the old NCC, the Bison fans would be having a hayday on the websites makibng fun of UND. NDSU fans would be gloating about the impressive Big Sky. The MVFC is a fine football conference. Over the most recent years the Big Sky has been a better football conference but at the present they are very similar. The Big Sky for the other sports is a much better and more stable situation for other sports though.

that's the bottom line, isn't it?

  13. well, Siouperfan did say that Calvary would be unique

But Cavalry would be a good option, the 7th Cavalry was part of ND history.

There are several Cavaliers, most notably U of Virginia and the Cleveland NBA franchise. (and isn't cavalier an attitude or style of dress... makes me think of musketeers ;) )

  14. The best way to satisfy everyone is for UND to qualify for and play NDSU in the FCS playoffs. You know the NCAA would love it - they take most of the gate for playoff games. Host schools seldom make much $$ unless its a sellout and you can be sure a UND-NDSU game would be a sellout (even if it wasn't a playoff game). Then both teams need to continue to make the playoffs (and at least some times with the Sioux UND in a higher ranking so they can host the game) to keep it going. Then, if the schools see the profits from the games going to the NCAA, maybe, just maybe, they will actually start scheduling regular season games so they can keep the gate receipts.

As to most of the Sioux boosters here who continue to lay blame on Taylor for holding a grudge over what happened when NDSU went D-I, he wouldn't have a choice or be able to back out of a playoff game.

As for the Bison backers who claim that Faison wants an every year contract - keep making the playoffs. UND will join the playoff picture soon. We don't know if it will be this year or sometime shortly after that, but UND does have a history of putting playoff caliber teams on the field. As long as UND and NDSU are in different conferences, the NCAA would salivate at the possibility of matching up the two teams in one of the larger FCS venues and taking the profits. If you don't believe me, just wait.
