  1. Why would UND bring back a coach who ran away from the transition period and has had no success at the D-I level?

With the schedule UND has this year, the expectation that UND would make the playoffs was unrealistic. It has been a tough reality check, but if the Sioux can't beat Northern Colorado, then it is definitely "Houston, we have a problem" and Lennon has not proven he would be the one who could fix it by what he has done at Southern Illinois.

  2. AGS & CS threads are so frequently hijacked by Bison posters that they do think that these are Bison boards. More than just Lakes. And it also seems that they are always looking to trash other teams - usually UND but also UNI and any Big Sky team, and on and on. It's like an old, scratched vinyl record that skips back again and again. It just gets old.

  3. How do you bench the most efficient passer in FCS? I understand that you really shouldn't bench Hanson because of an injury, but how can you justify benching someone who has played as well as Henderson has for the last 10 quarters?

  4. Note: I'm assuming benefit of doubt here, namely, someone other than one of the NDSU FB players wrote "Hillary Rodham, (address) White House".

Well, yeah that is the perspective of my post, but the whole thing was a little tongue in cheek. Just poking a little fun at our (a rival's) fan board revelling so much in the misfortune of the people who worked so hard to get these measures on the ballot legally.

And... What IF they got away with it on the Sioux nickname initiative on last June's ballot?

  5. A couple of wildly divergent thoughts...

Who that collects signatures on petitions reads the names/signatures of all the people who sign? Maybe, and this is a b-I-g maybe, the guys collecting the signatures are guilty of nothing more than not comparing IDs to signatures. Don't think this is what happened, but let's not throw everyone under the bus right away.

Second thought: What if this is not the first petition drive these guys worked? Maybe these guys got away with doing this on the Sioux nickname petition drive and were not spot checked on the signatures that were forged.

Bottom line is that this is all speculation on a rival team's fan forum. We can think whatever we want, but the only thing that matters is that the people who worked so hard to get these initiatives on the ballot are now screwed because of forged signatures.

  6. I must ask: what makes the Norse better than the Huns? (Krauts may be a little too rough) After all, there are just as many with German heritage as Norwegian, and many of us are both.

edit: don't like either one, personally

  7. NMSU is saying merger talks with the Big Sky are not dead yet. Star2City (siouxfan) where are you?

New Mexico State Athletics Director McKinley Boston said the WAC's still in discussions with the Big Sky Conference on possible partnership, one where certain non-football affiliates would merge. Such an agreement would help keep the WAC alive while opening additional automatic qualifying bids for Big Sky athletics programs (the league currently has 11 in its Olympic-sports membership) into NCAA Tournaments.

"There are very good discussions taking place in our efforts to rebuild the WAC," Boston said. "In discussions with Big Sky. I'm very encouraged based on conversations we're having."

Aggie football isn't only sport affected by conference shuffle Saturday Aug 25

  8. What's the commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference saying?

Gee, it sounds like Benson (SBC commish) has heard of something like Saban's plan (top 70 or so). Where else would this "below the line" conferences statement come from?

    My guess?

Above the line: SEC, Pac-12, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12*, Big East*

Below the line: Sun Belt, MAC, C-USA, Mountain West, WAC (RIP)

So there's the "third tier" (middle tier) of Division I football de facto forming. And if Benson is looking to limit "body bag" games that'll affect budgets (see article) so don't be surprised if budget issues don't lead to "reduction in scholarship limits" discussions later.

*I could see the Big East pilaged by the others in the coming days and the BE remnants ending up "below the line" or the Big Twelve folding up shop with the remnants going to the other "above the line" conferences.

Unless Idaho, NMSU, Denver & Seattle pull something out of their collective a$$e$ like enticing Montana, MSU, UND and a couple more to move over, you can just go ahead and drop the WAC & move the Big East to the below the line list:

    SEC, Pac 12, B1G, ACC, Big 12

    ------- the line -------

C-USA, Sun Belt, MAC, Mountain West, Big East

As 82 SiouxGuy said, the difference between above and below the line will more than likely be stipends, not # of scholarships - TV $$

  9. Lower level FBS doesn't get a shot playing in a fair tournement for a national title. Basketball only needs one division because if you got one great player(Woodside), you can possibly beat some top teams. Butler(Mid-Major) made it to two national championship games in a row. Basketball has a lot more parity than football and only needs one level. Football could do fine with multiple titles, just like North Dakota high school athletics.

Best post you've made in a long time, JohnBoy.

  10. How about a truly northern conference of flagships and land-grants:

    North Dakota

    North Dakota State

    Montana

    Montana State

    Idaho

    Idaho State

    Wyoming

    Denver (non-football)

and either South Dakota/South Dakota State

    or Colorado State/Utah State

    9 teams all sports/10 teams non-football

  11. I would have gone twins #1, vikings #2, then und hockey and ndsu football at roughly a tie. NDSU football probably has a broader fanbase if only because it's football, the hockey fans are on average more dedicated.

thank you for your unbiased perspective, Bizun troll

  12. ... Imagine if we were Idaho and NDSU was Boise State. Would you "embrace" being left behind by NDSU? ...

That is the best perspective on this situation I have heard.

its easy for us to hope to join Idaho & the Montanas, but Idaho (and Montana, by the way) was once a member of the Pacific Coast Conference - the same conference as the 6 teams that are now in the Pac 12 northern division.

to put the glove on the other hand, so to speak, it would be great for this to happen and hear the grinding of teeth as the NDSU fans trash this new conference alignment.
