Looking at the Latest Pairwise rankings, I looked at how future NCHC and Big 10 schools were doing this year. Here's what I found:
2. Minnesota (Big10)
7. W. Michigan (NCHC)
9. St. Cloud (NCHC)
10. N. Dakota (NCHC)
13. Denver (NCHC)
t21. Neb. Omaha (NCHC)
23. Wisconsin (Big10)
24. Ohio St. (Big 10)
Can someone explain to me how the Big 10 is going to be a better than the NCHC??!!
When they start playing each other for two series a year, at least 2 or 3 of the 6 teams will give the other 3 or 4 lots of wins.
The biggest way the BTHC is better than the National Conference is in the member schools' name recognition for those who do not follow hockey (which unfortunately for the NCHC is most of the country).
The conference scheduling will also be hard on the rankings of the teams in the NCHC due to having to play the best teams in the country week in and week out.

To paraphrase someone's signature line on this board - apologies to the OP for being too lazy to find out who:
"Success at North Dakota is measured in national championships" Cary Eades.
By the way, Eades has Sioux Falls in 1st place in the USHL West Division, and they were last last year.

You are prophetic!
It's Niners vs. Ravens, Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh. I am going with the Niners by 7; they have found the right QB and have everything else they need to finish the job this time.
don't sell the 'one last time for Ray' motivation short. the Ravens has already significantly overachieved since Lewis announced his upcoming retirement.

The Missouri Valley never invited North Dakota. UND turned down the Summit Leauge, which doesn't sponsor football, in favor of the the Big Sky conference.
The word from Missouri Valley Football Conference Commissioner Patty Viverito upon offering MVFC membership to USD. The MVFC did not want an 11 team league. Also probably a contributing factor to why Nebraska Omaha dropped football (besides the problems with Nebraska Lincoln throwing their weight around)
U Of South Dakota Football Joining Missouri Valley Conference
"I didn't have the votes to get an 11-team league approved with North Dakota as part of the package," Viverito said.

I can tell you that in the news and behind the scenes that Lucia was very supportive of MSU and getting us scheduled.
...
Wasn't Lucia at Colorado College when Mankato joined the WCHA?

Why all this talk . . . why doesn't NDSU just schedule a game with a top 25 team? OH, they did . . . next Aug 31st at Kansas State. Fair enough?
I see Kansas State is picked 7th in the Big 12 next year (out of 10 teams). Can you guys just admit/laugh about the the fact that Gene Taylor has the magic touch when it comes to scheduling FBS games? Its almost unbelievable how it works out. They go from Top 5 in the country to 7th in the Big 12 (out of 10 teams).
And when the game was scheduled, wasn't K State 5 & 7? (5th out of 6 in the Big 12 North)
Thank you for playing. Vanna, do you have a parting prize for our contestant?

So, instead they can substitute "FCS" for "I-AA"? There is no difference in the level of competition. The student athletes aren't stupid. They know.
However, it is deceptive to the general public. "Living a lie" as Lou Holtz used to say. It needs to be changed back.
1. New Orleans Saint RB George Rogers when asked about the upcoming season:
"I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first.."
2. Shelby Metcalf, basketball coach at Texas A&M, recounting what he told a player who received four F's and one D:
"Son, looks to me like you're spending too much time on one subject."
3. Torrin Polk, University of Houston receiver, on his coach, John Jenkins:
"He treat us like mens. He let us wear earrings."
4. Football commentator and former player Joe Theismann:
"Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein."
5. Bill Peterson, a Florida State football coach:
"You guys line up alphabetically by height.."
And,
"You guys pair up in groups of three, and then line up in a circle."
6. Senior basketball player at the University of Pittsburgh :
"I'm going to graduate on time, no matter how long it takes.."
(Now that is beautiful)
just kidding.......

The really impressive thing is how often the first Bison defender to make a hit brings them down by wrapping their arms around the Bearkat and TACKLING!

WOW! Talk about getting the bounces!

NCAA
in UND Nickname
There was a consolidation of North and South Dakota to eliminate redundancies on the map.
maybe a validation that there is only one university in all of 'Dakota' that really matters, especially on an international scale.

I don't really post on bisonville anymore, so I wouldn't know how UND fans are treated there.
I don't think it's a UND thing honestly. Bisonville has become a place where a select group of people turn every thread into an inside joke. Hard to even have a conversation over there and that's why I stopped posting. This group of guys isn't really welcoming to any opinions so I wouldn't take it personal.
Interesting that even a former Bison player find ss.com a better place to post and feel more freedom to express opinions, even when we tend to jump on him for some of his more trollish posts. Congratulations to the moderators for keeping things civil, even for non-Sioux fans.

... without Hansen I believe we would have had at least one more loss (Montana) putting us at a minimum of 4-7 with one win a DII. ...
or ........ maybe there would have been one more victory - Northern Colorado for a 6 - 5 season.
Hendrickson was impressive when he was on the field.
-
Hey we can't do that....NDSU claims that format.
if it works...

Shaping up to be a great Saturday for sports:
12:00 Watch FCS Championship - Root for the team with the fewest criminals on the field
2:00 Watch UND Women's Basketball Game - Root for the best women's division I BB team in ND
7:00 Watch UND Men's Hockey - Root for the team with the most Division I championships in ND
8:00 Watch Minnesota Vikings vs Green Bay Packers football - Root for the team not wearing green and yellow.
Are you confident we know which team this is? Since SHSU is on the other side of the country, this might not be as clear as we think. just sayin'...

New Mexico St. has never really been a world-beater in football though, with or without Faison. I don't really see the correlation. New Mexico State's football record during Faison's 6 years as A.D. was 29-40. In the 6 years prior to his tenure they were 18-48. In the 6 seasons after he left the A.D. post, they went 16-58. But, again, he wasn't on the Aggie coaching staff or the active player roster, nor does he participate in either of those roles for North Dakota.
He does not coach, but he does determine/extend the contracts of current coaches. He did not make administrative decisions that turned NMSU's program into a winner. My question is whether or not he 'demands' the level of excellence sought by posters on this forum.
-
If Faison's oversight of the [sarcasm] stellar [/sarcasm] New Mexico State football program is a clue to how he operates and what his priorities are: status quo - we are here. The decisions he makes are much more important than those of us on a fan board. BB Coach Jones' job doesn't appear to be in danger, either.
That said, one reservation about the move to D-1 is the loss of the student part of student-athlete. Can a successful program be run with upstanding young men and women? It's tough enough for young people to stay out of trouble at their age, but even harder when they have a sense of entitlement. For this reason, Mussman has a difficult task, because it seems that, on his teams, off field character also counts. I pledge to attempt to back off of my criticisms of Mussman and basing it solely on a won-loss record. I appreciate that his leadership has kept the proper perspective in developing young men that UND can be proud to send out to the world.

Recruiting is an inexact science to say the least. Kids can look like a sure fire great kid and turn out to be cancers off the field. Look at ndsu Bohl did well with players that weren't his. Then they weren't very good and he adjusted to right the ship and look at them now. Mussman inherited a huge mess and is just now recruiting on a somewhat fair level with everyone else and the ship is getting back on the right track. When Mollbergs class are juniors the team will be a complete reflection of mussman and how well he chose young men to represent und. It's on the brink of being great.
Didn't the last of Lennon's recruits graduate last year? Yes, there is the transition excuse, but IIRC this year was a reflection of mussman.
-
So what in your mind would show he has there cajones you speak of other than cutting a very talented lb and starting safety or suspending players for missing a class?
well besides benching Mackey, how about sending in Zeb Miller for the last second field goal at Northern Colorado? How about getting in the officials' faces when Northern Colorado had 12 men on the field for that last play? (if your answer to this one is that he didn't realize there were twelve Bears, my response is that, as the coach, its his responsibility to be aware of things like that and if he wasn't then thats just another example of poor coaching) How about showing some passion and fire, either on the sidelines or in the press conferences?
I believe Hendrickson proved he was the right kind of leader when he was given the chance, maybe he should have been put back on the field when the Sioux started sputtering the second half of the season.
I do not pretend to know the team as well as you do (you have provided some outstanding analysis of the season on another thread), but I think great coaching is the reason a team like Alabama continues to win under Lou Saban. Jim Harbaugh turned the 49ers around. Sean Peyton not being on the sidelines has had a tremendous negative impact on the Saints. I admit I am only a Monday morning quarterback, but Phil Jackson was able to win in Chicago and in LA when he took over, but neither team has won since he left them. Coaching makes a tremendous difference in teams that win championships.
I sincerely hope you are right about Mussman turning things around, because having the kind of talent that Mollberg, Golladay and others bring and not winning and competing for Big Sky championships and making a run at the national playoffs because of coaching will be very disappointing for those players and us fans.

Sorry, geaux, i really respect what you post and your dedication to the football team, but as long as Mussman is the head coach, UND has an uphill fight. He just has not shown that he has the cojones you need to take the Sioux to the next level.

The coach can't pull leaders out of his ass. Sometimes guys develope into them while some others are natural born leaders and always have been. My point is that a coach can coach buy he can't play. There is no substitute for on field leadership from a teammate. Coach Bohl seemed to have no control when he had a locker room without any good leadership and now he looks like a genius thanks to players like Olson and Jensen. Without guys like that standards drop and so does the performance. An average coach can look really good thanks to the players and also can look like a chump thanks to the players.
high school is different than college. in high school, you gotta play with the hand that's dealt to you. in college, the coach gets to choose who he wants to recruit.

What a great comeback by Eastern Washington. 2 outstanding semifinal games. This is why FCS is more exciting than the idaho famous potato bowl.
-
I had a hall of fame coach in high school and we had a good amount of talent when I was a soph but the seniors didn't give 100% into doing the extra things and we didn't make it to state. So according to you its the coaches fault that there wasn't good player leadership? The coach can only do so much at some point the players need to do the extra things and execute on the field.
maybe the coach should have identified different leaders. Or maybe the other team was better coached? Sometimes hall of fame for coaches is as much about longevity as it is about winning.
-
Ouch. Sam Houston is doing to Eastern Washington what Eastern did to UND. SH has not been very nice to the Big Sky in these playoffs.

Played well in three of "them" being games or periods? No disrespect intended. Just not sure what you mean.
