  1. Brings up a question...

Have any of the other Native nations been approached. None of their tribal names roll as well as Sioux, but the logo would still fit. Hidatsas? Mandan? Iriquois? How about Sakakawea's (Sacagawea's) nation (Shoshone?) as a tribute to her contribution to the Corps of Discovery?

  2. I didn't hear about this one... Did someone get put in jail for shooting a Timberwolf?

Looks like no charges were filed. Sorry, working from (bad) memory on that one.

According to Tucker, the last confirmed sighting of a gray wolf in North Dakota occurred in January 2011, when a coyote hunter mistakenly shot a wolf near Hillsboro, N.D. The Great Lakes wolf population still was under federal protection at that time, but the Fish and Wildlife Service didn’t charge the hunter, Grosz said.

HILLSBORO, N.D. (AP) - Wildlife officials have confirmed that an animal shot by a coyote hunter in early January east of Hillsboro actually was a gray wolf, a federally protected species rarely seen in North Dakota.

  3. Are you trying to convince me that UND should follow the lead of Hillsboro?

Apparently a number of people here are on board with Nokota(s). I'm not one of them and I've pointed out my main reason (in addition to not wanting a horse as our logo), but to each their own.

No, not saying "follow the lead of Hillsboro", only that it can be done and is not that difficult for most people to say. ;)

The designer on the logo forum is on a nice track.

However, really like eric's Wolves idea. Owls, if a bird; Roughriders is good, Cavalry, Scouts, etc are also ok. Being of German blood, not fond or Norse.

Fear that ROK will be more PC, like Spirit, Blizzard, etc.

  4. Northern Colorado...Weber State....Portland State...

All those teams are beatable and have lesser defenses than Stony Brook.

Perhaps be cognisant of the fact UND won and the defense played very well?

UND's play calling isn't the issue if the players aren't executing. Albeit the jury is still out on Rudolph, I think it's way too early to call for differences in play-calling. I mean, this team is 2-2 after 4 games; that's better than last season.

I found a pitcher of green Kool-aid in the fridge this afternoon... ;)

The Sioux could possibly be 4 - 4 at the end of October. After Montana State and Montana, the Sioux face Southern Utah and Portland State. The defense could be stubborn enough to keep UND in those two games if only the offense can find some mojo. Also, if yesterday's defense shows up the next two games, there will not be a repeat of the blowouts of the last 2 years.

Took another sip of the Kool-aid and Weber is after Eastern Washington, then Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado close out the year. If Rudolph can come up with blocking schemes that this O-Line can execute and efficient play calling, the Sioux's season is not lost. The Kool-aid tastes good. This defense can give the offense an opportunity to win 4 or even 5 games this year.

I know some of you have strong opinions the other way about UND this year, but Coach Schweigert and Coach Schmidt have put together a solid defense that will not be blown out by SUU, PSU, WSU, UNC, and even this year's edition of NAU, who are still on UND's schedule this season. UND may not win pretty, but they could add a couple more. There is still hope.

  5. Great finish late last night...

Arizona down 15 with 5 and a half minutes left. Scored 3 TDs.

Great onside kick after the first TD. Had to go for 2 on the second TD to try tie the game and didn't get it. Looked like all was lost.

Cal got the ball with just under 3 minutes to go in the game and a 2 pt lead. Long drive and missed the FG.

Arizona got the ball back with less than a minute to go and won the game with a Hail Mary with 4 seconds left. True freshman Solomon was very impressive at qb.

  6. New NCHC Television Offer

I like the new offer to watch all NCHC games on technology this year.  There are questions about the UND subscription and NCHC subscription overlap.  I provide this information and hope it allows us to find the right answers before we commit to two subscriptions.

I did call and talk with Michael Weisman, Director of Communications of the NCHC, he was polite and did provide some useful information, but he did not have all the answers.  It appears NeuLion and UND have to respond to this issue of watching other UND sports.

I sent the following to find clarification.

    To: undsports@neulionnetwork.com

I currently have a Siouxxtra All-Access Pass until 2024 which renews automatically yearly (see below).  Now I have been told from the NCHC that Men's hockey will no longer be included in this.  That to watch UND Hockey after this years pass expires, I will need to have a NCHC NeuLion Pass for a charge of 81.95 if purchased before September 25th.

Problem:  I would like the NCHC pass so I can watch all the NCHC games during the year.  My concern is that I will no longer be able to use the pass to watch women's soccer, women's volleyball, women's and men's basketball, and Tennis.

If I want to watch those sports, it appears I also need to have the Siouxtra pass.  Is this correct?  Because the hockey is no longer on Siouxtra pass, the value of the pass has been diminished and I am paying more for the hockey and more for the rest of the Sioux sports.

How can I watch the UND sports (not including football) plus men's hockey without two subscriptions, with one of the subscriptions having been priced $47.96 until 2024 (which included men's hockey)?

Let’s spend some time and discuss this on the blog.

Aren't those sports available on the Big Sky/America One app for free?

  7. Not sure how I missed reporting this incident from last weekend, but did anyone else catch the Texas/UCLA coin toss?

UCLA wins the toss and defers to the 2nd half.

Tank Johnson promptly tells referee that Texas will kick off to start the game.

The referee actually turns OFF his microphone and tries explaining to Tank what's happening.

Tank doesn't budge...Texas kicks off.  And then UCLA elects to receive the ball again in the second half.

    D'oh!

    True MasterCard moment ... Priceless!

  8. Scariest part of this list ... It appears Kelly will make the final decision.

The nickname committee has been selected. 17 people, four of them alumni. I'm not sure what the demographics of the other 13 people are but I'm hoping the majority are students. Their job is to submit nickname candidates to the president who will have the final decision. Should be an official announcement next week.

The team anticipates submitting its recommendations to UND President Robert Kelley by the end of 2014. While the Task Force is not charged with making a final nickname and logo selection, President Kelley welcomes all final outcomes and recommendations from the Task Force’s work."

  9. Last year people were complaining about the musical chairs at qb. Now after 2 games (it started last week and even some after week 1), the chorus starts up. Whether you agree with Coach Schweigert, Coach Rudolph or the choice at qb, 3 games will not turn the Titanic around. Not convinced that this is the way to go (actually personally I do not), but It took years to put the Sioux football team in this position.

On the other hand, gfhockey, are the good ol' boys happy with forcing their choice of Schweigert as the GC?

  10. I'm going to write a book here.

I've been thinking, the new name HAS to be wolves. What's the reason behind needing a new name? Branding. Merchandise. Selling stuff. Nothing brands better than wolves.

It sets the right mentality for sports too.  Aggressive, Cunning, Working Together. Kills our rivals.

    - Let me you howl

    - The Hunt is on.

    - Pack Mentality

No one is just Wolves. There is timberwolves, seawolves, wolfpack. Just Wolves. Think of the cool logo. The silhouette of this guys face with green eyes.

Best traveling fanbase in hockey? The pack is on the move.

It's pretty safe for controversy sake, but it the ways that it is controversial plays in our favor. Who hates wolves? People from our conference states, people from Wisconsin and Minnesota.

    All in on wolves.

    #Howl

    #JoinThePack

One of the best suggestions lately. Can you get it through the Kelly group is the question. Can Eric be appointed to the Kelly group would be the answer.

  11. Holy cow...not to back-track to the SU match but I had no idea that the all-time series is 78-14 in favor of the Bisons. Wow!

NDSU had a superstar back in the '80s. Went to Olympics, then pro. Tall redhead, think her name was Janet Cobb.
