Don't think USD and/or SDSU will give up their home court advantage in the Summit bb tournament. NDSU moving to a WAC FBS makes sense in that they would not want to be 'left behind' like UND was when the XDSUs went DI.
Not sure UND is ready, but looks like the recent reductions may be a precursor.
interesting times indeed.

I'm fine with waiting 5 years to determine if the f'n hawks name is accepted or not. I just wanted to have a discussion. I can't believe so many people are against this name, I thought it was a great idea
and I thought Roughriders was a great idea, but it the 43rd iteration of Hawks and the millionth use of a bird, but it is time to move on...

I don't care what the herald wants as unds name, I was referencing the article because the mindset of our fans hasn't moved on from the sioux name, and I don't believe "time" will have our hockey fans convert to liking "hawks" as a name
Please let me know if you think that would be a cool name and logo or not
Tell that to all the people who voted for the Fighting Hawks name because they thought the logo would be that multicolored one from the junior team in Canada.
also, a 'no' vote from me.

Will signs with the Falcons. Not my favorite team but they have a huge need at LB. Seems like a good situation for him. I hope he crushes it.
Agreed!!!

Not a former Sioux, but Joe Schobert is the first pick in the fourth round by Cleveland.

Agreed that Fullerton said publicly that he wanted to see a Big Sky FBS as well as FCS, just was wondering if there might be a basketball reason to make the split complete.
-
Right. 12 teams in bb. 14 fb.
-
Yeah, I get that. Just 12 teams for 1 spot then dividing that share 12 ways. Vs 1 out of 6 times 2...
don't know the logistics either but a complete split may be better than FBS FCS

No dice in the game, but I believe a Big Sky split has always been the "grand plan" one at FBS and one at FCS....so a divisional split only makes the likely hood more likely.
Considering that the Big Sky is a one bid conference to the dance, wouldn't a split be more important in basketball?

Of course you are......no surprise there.
Your judging of me by my avatar is comical. Yeah, I hope UND Football gets added to the B1G because of hockey.
What? You mean NDSU is not getting invited to the Big 12 because of wrasslin'? Blasphemy!

New Mexico State on the clock ?

C'mon now. These are the most entertaining threads on the board. Love reading the indignation of the bison crowd. Do any of us have a good historical record of predictions?

Investing in MBB has the potential to bring in much more money than Women's Hockey. I know we can't cut women's hockey, but we can invest more in MBB and in turn, receive more in returns. There are studies out there that show how much money school can make if they make the dance, and more if they can win a game or two. Everything from increased enrollment, to advertising dollars. MBB has alot of potential if you invest in it...
Just ask Northern Iowa

USD had the SL to help them, being a member already, UND has no desire to join unless travel expenses are the next to be on the chopping block which makes the SL attractive. It's not like UND couldn't be a football only member in the BSC like UC Davis and Cal Poly.
Except that UC Davis and Cal Poly were never full members. There may be resistance if UND wanted to leave football in the BSC and move the rest. idk.

Summit expansion? What? Who? And who are you having to replace?

So is Idaho going to make an official decision by the "May 4th" deadline, or will it be more towards the summer when they make up their minds as to Big Sky or Indy?
The Idaho prez contracted with a consultant to report on the pros and cons of Indy vs FCS. The recent nickname fiasco gives an insight into what that consultant will more than likely report. It appears that the UI administration wants to join the Big Sky in football too, but there is a significant alumni push to stay Independent for a couple years after the 2017 season. The consultant will more than likely endorse what Spear wants to do. SiouxVolley has a much better finger on the pulse of this.
To answer your question, it looks like May 4 is a soft target to be able to plan the 2018 conference schedule, but Idaho will be accommodated if they need more time. Again, SV probably can give you a better answer.

Meh, Phil Hansen did it first and was from an(barely) even smaller town
I'll see your Phil Hanson from Oakes and raise you a Dave Osborn from Cando. But then, you're too young to know about him.

If the B1G offers, which it wont, Faison would be powerless as Schafer or Kennedy will take a second to say YES.
Not saying he could stop it. Saying he would fight it.
But I agree, it will not happen.
-
After thinking about this for the past couple of weeks, a light has lit... If the B1G offers UND while Faison is the AD, he will fight it with all the power he has. He was arguably the instigator of the conference forming in the first place, so UND will not leave the NCHC without a huge fight from Faison. The NCHC is his legacy, more than anything else he has done in his entire career.

Now that Cleveland has picked up RG III, will Wentz go to a team that may be a better fit for him long term? I would think a year or two backing up Tony Romo would be better for Wentz than being relegated to the dog pound of Browns futility.
-
Hypothetical question...
if UND were offered and accepted a hockey affiliation in the B1G, would that cause the athletic department to start looking at trying to join the Summit and MVFC? Since the B1G schools are east, would that move the focus of conference affiliations for all sports east? I do not think it would have an impact on Big Sky membership for other sports, but I don't know s--t from shine-ola when it comes to the inner workings of the AD.
UND and the Big Sky could go FBS
