so why are you posting here? the ndsu side of me would like to say that they have earned the right to be arrogant and obnoxious. They came, they saw, the conquered, and once that was done, they gloated heavily.

you forgot about the way UND cancelled it (NDSU found out from the press after the news conference, from my understanding) and the part where there are massive asymmetries between the current strengths and bargaining positions of the programs. From NDSU's perspective, this is a lose-lose. From und's perspective, they might not be able to reestablish a decent footing for the program until they beat NDSU. From a rivalry perspective, why would ndsu want to come in while UND is doing such a great job of beating itself?

If UND wins this weekend, which i think they have a fairly good shot of doing if either the offense or defense decides to show up, would this be the biggest win since the transition began? It certainly would have a good case. Anyway, I think the offense decides to show up, and we get a thriller. 38-34 UND. I'm expecting a pretty solid student turnout, every time i walked by the ticket office today and yesterday, someone was picking up a ticket. 10,800 total attendance. amazed at how easily trolled some of you are by even the most innocuous post by NDSU people. Good lord this place is on edge all the time. he posted nothing about the bison or mvfc or anything, but I'm glad UND people are so eager to turn every thread into an NDSU thread as soon as any NDSU person shows, regardless of what the are saying.

threads like this really give me the feeling that this board is drowning in its own inferiority complex even more than normal. The mvfc can make a pretty solid case that it is the best conference in the fcs. the big sky can't, although it does have several solid teams at the top. Trying to defend the indefensible really undermines your credibility. It's not like we're playing in the southland, the sky is still pretty solid, and the top4 all have similar numbers of elite teams. How about: we play all the best teams in the big sky, and our schedule is tougher than yours? a fact based argument that coincidentally is also true.

most bison people are pretty high on the good sky teams, its just that the depth doesn't really seem to be very impressive. Also, UNI scheduled themselves out of the playoffs.

ISU, yes. They got a bump from a big win over an EMU team that turns out to be way worse than expected. Still a top25 team, however. YSU on the other hand had arguably the best resume in the country coming in. 2 wins over top 25 teams and a thrashing of Pittsburgh I think they are a top 10 team at worst. UNI is pretty solid as well, but were far-sighted enough to schedule themselves out of the playoffs. They have some big flaws, but aside from NDSU, cal poly, Jmu, and a handful of others, there aren't many teams without some glaring weaknesses. if you go back to the playoffs last year, this is now the 5th top 10 (give or take) offense NDSU has humiliated, and their offense is definitely improving quickly. NDSU would do this or worse to every team in the big sky. Pretty hard to hold it against YSU for getting beat just like GSU or lehigh last year.

I think cal poly is the better team. regardless, they are the top 2 defenses in the sky.

based on the last few years, I'm really not sure the coaching staff knows what to do with the quarterback position.

i never really expected the defense to be that awesome, but what the hell happened to the early season offense?

1) UND ended the rivalry poorly, making NDSU unwilling to reschedule out of spite 2) they are in different conferences, which makes scheduling harder 3) The schools are at different levels of strength financially, and UND has had a harder time filling its schedule and seats, putting NDSU in a position of strength, where they felt they could and should drive a hard bargain. 4) NDSU is well on its well to making new bitter rivals, while UND has not. The UNI-NDSU series got bitter fast, for instance. 5) scheduling priorities. NDSU wants six home games, and isn't willing to drop a home game for what would be roughly a wash monetarily.

if it wasn't for the surge in student attendance, those numbers would be bad. I other words good work to the people helping get the students out to games.

actually, the more i think about this the more i like it, even if it's symbolic only. Certainly unique, thats for sure.

not a fan of any oil related trophy. Seems too dakota marker trophy-esqe (NDSU and SDSU's brazenly contrived trophy), and I'm philosophically not a fan of industry trends out there. There has to be some sort of obscure memorabilia to fight over from the old days. The weird trophies are the best ones. How about the winner gets Beach?

on the surface, the big sky has always reminded me of the big12. Offense always seems to be the priority when recruiting, and this seems to have applied to UND either intentionally or not. Much of the best talent appears to be involved in the catching and throwing business. compare that to the sec, big10, or mvfc, where the focus tends to be on line play and defense, at least for the top-teams.

seriously, !@#$ off. I've spent the last two seasons beating my head against the wall trying to get students to come to games, hyping it up to friends, customers, whoever i can. I dare post criticism of the continual groupthink (which unsurprising is also continuously wrong) around here and dare to not buy into a dead rivalry that only one side really cares about, and I get nothing but crap from people who probably haven't done a goddamn thing to help in any regard. People like you make me want to not like this team. Sorry for having an opinion, asshole.
