  1. NDSU is easier to be a fan of. At least right now.  Better at sports.  Football is bigger than hockey. And NDSU's absurd success there can't be understated.  On a base level,  NDSU SHOULD be bigger than UND under present circumstances.

I wouldn't say it's anything super serious. Both schools fans are pretty casual. This ain't the deep south or anything.

My guess is if ND doesn't join the Big Ten the 4 additions would be 2 from the PAC (Oregon, Washington, Cal, Stanford are candidates) and 2 from the ACC.  Big Ten has long looked at Virginia and North Carolina due to their location and academic research standing.  Some sold recruiting grounds in that region and two programs that could be a lot more than what they have shown.  Lots of growth potential there.

I think the B1G is not going to 20 without ND. I think they'll grab ND sooner or later.  And i think they'll save space for them in the meantime.

The haters may whine, but the Golden Dome guarantees eyeballs and attendance no other school does.

I have never liked fans who change allegiances at the drop of a hat. If someone in my extended family played for the Packers, I would not become a Packer fan (just typing that makes me cringe). When Darin Erstad was drafted by the Angels and made it the majors, a bunch of people jumped on the Angles bandwagon. Not just wishing Erstad the best in his career, but jumping on the bandwagon 1000%. That has always annoyed me as a sports fan.

Oh it was very cringe to suddenly become Eagle superfans. I would cheer for whatever team a family member joined probably. But I'm not a gung-ho NFL or pro sports guy.

Hope it goes well for C Dubs out in DC.

    Off-season time killer.

What are a few things the Ralph needs for better fan engagement or production to be better or more elite than an NHL game/fan experience?

    I’ll start.

    1. Pregame tailgating. Not always available as an option, but should hold pre-party at the betty or olympic rink with music etc.

    2. Unified cheer to get all students and fans engaged. We used to have the let’s go Sioux chant that was electric and most would be involved in late 90s and 2000s. Name change ruined this.

    3. A green out and not a white out. White out is exclusive to the Winnipeg Jets. Take that green jerseys worn in Nashville and do a green out.

    4. More unique intermission/sponsor tv time out games or things, Update them.  Get creative, copy the most fun in the NHL/AHL even ECHL.

    Any ideas?

    1. Tailgating makes any activity more fun.

    2. It's really hard to artificially create cheers.  NDSU tried it my freshman year. It was cringe.  Needs to be organic.

    3. When you say "white out", Winnipeg is not and never will be the image that pops into someone's head.

    4. I'd go for a collegiate experience. People are there to watch a college hockey game. Not the Wild or the Jets. UND can have a great experience without being a pale imitation of a professional team.

As is the case with all college venues, atmosphere comes from the student section. They'll need to take the lead on that.

Yup and commercial on the first floor.

Lots of houses being built too.

There's a shift of people preferring apartments more nowadays.

    Cheaper, less commitment, less upkeep.

The youtube generation so they can live the #vanlife.

True in part. False in part. I'll elaborate another time. I think it has more to do with priorities.

Stanford?  I don't understand why people point to Stanford as a Notre Dame rival.  Recently, yeah, that series fired up in the 1980's.  Notre Dame has a much deeper history with schools (in this order), USC (obviously), Navy, Michigan State, Michigan (the school that literally taught Notre Dame the sport), and Purdue.  Each one of those schools is now in the Big Ten except Navy which would continue as an OOC game.

Big Ten now offers Notre Dame a national schedule with historic rivals and a buttload of cash.  Also, the academics at Notre Dame want in to the Big Ten for academic reasons.  They voted to join years ago, it was the Athletic Dept holding out.  The reasons for Notre Dame to remain Independent have all but been stripped away.

Stanford's "rivalry" with ND is 50% Notre Dame's desire to have an annual game in California and 50% the joy of said school being the best non-ivy/academy school in the country.

Notre Dame has not had a reason to join the B1G until today. So you are wrong. ND is an elite school for one reason and one only.... the football team. Without the football team they would have been a generic Big East-esque team.

The football team at Notre Dame might be the single most fascinating story in American sport. Nobody will ever find something more goofy.

10 for olympic- (use hockey lure to get uni to bring football and they replace western illi)

10 for hockey-(add st thomas and uni)

6 for football (get omaha and denver to grow a set and sponser fb gets to 8)

I am pretty sure Omaha is only D1 because they were willing to get rid of football.

I see more small-town financial institutions doing this as the outer population declines, with many now residing in Grand Forks.

Such as? I've noticed more consolidation with the bigger institutions eating up smaller ones.

Waffle House, need at least one 24-hour restaurant open back up in the city! Plus, the Waffle House entertainment is one-of-a-kind!

When I lived in the Florida Panhandle i was a couple blocks away from one. And granted I was like 25, but it came in clutch on multiple occasions, sober and not.

Jamestown could use one too since we lost Perkins.

No reason we don't have more high enders - with our recruiting advantages we need to get in some elite front end talent.  Coaches need to hit the recruiting trail hard.  We should never be caught short.  One win in the tournaments since 16 is pathetic.  Get it done.  How did Mankato get better than us?

UND should have an elite top line every year shouldn't they? Decent school. Beautiful arena. Dedicated fans. Etc.

How’s Brian Kelly’s Cajun accent coming along these days?

That video of him at the LSU basketball game was brutal lmaoooo.

Homeboy got paid though at least. At least the new guy drips charisma. Not something a Michigan Man would understand ;)

It was Mankato's culture that won the game for them.:D

Still bitter than ND's 4th or 5th program beat UND the other night I see.

Notre Dame doesn't look like they got much of an offense.  Or maybe Mankato just made it look that way.  Oh well.
