  1. I see the chart also coincides with the Base downsizing substantially. GFAFB in 1990: 9300 2000: 4800 2010: 2300 That's an awful lot of (disproportionately) young people to lose. And some of those guys/gals were sticking around when they got out of the service too (maybe they liked the area or found a spouse). Perhaps GF has just had all around bad luck and some self-inflicted wounds as well.
  2. The point isn't to compare Grand Forks to those communities. The point is Grand Forks offers basically nothing to anyone beyond what they already do. The west had an oil boom. They got to enjoy that. Grand Forks doesn't have that. Fargo has been growing like a pretty consistent weed (adjusted for ND of course) for the last hundred years. Being at a crossroads designated by the US government sure helped. Grand Forks is where it is because they got a relatively major university and an Air Force Base. Look when Grand Forks growth stunted... right around the time they shipped my family out of there and started downsizing the base. This isn't even shitting on GF...if it were up to me they'd have given UND the land grant and we'd all be best of friends. Enjoy the town much more than Fargo. I hope they fix many of the problems this thread is basically devoted to complaining about and identifying. But don't try to make Grand Forks something it's not. Just like Jamestown will never be Grand Forks, Grand Forks is never gonna be Fargo. Each of these "levels" of communities is unique and brings good and bad.
  3. Idk...big growth in Fargo, and oil country or oil adjacent country. Its not like Jamestown, Valley City, and Wahpeton, Devils Lake, and those communities are exactly booming.
  4. I think some of it is some statewide effort to have more entertainment Medora and Fargo. But yeah i think it's pretty hokey. Not sure its entirely fair to compare Grand Forks to other areas. The western energy boom is self explanatory like you mentioned. Fargo is just best equipped to grow in the east. Two interstates, an hour closer to civilization. Many more college kids available to be retained. I'm thinking that has started to snowball quite a bit. Not sure how Grand Forks can experience anything similar. Geography will steer people south. Hopefully they can snag some good jobs related to the base and tech or whatever. Big fan of the town up there. If I landed a great job opportunity up there I'd jump at it.
  5. Up is down. Spring is fall. Sdsu is a winner.
  6. The best QB is always the one you haven't seen yet
  7. Yeah I don't quite get the criticism of Stick. He isn't paid to be a franchise QB lol. I get that things went south in a hurry in Philly. But when I think of a bust, he doesn't really fit there. Busts don't get contract extensions...much less over a hundred million dollars lol.
  8. Quite an accomplished man. UJ/JC has been making some moves the last decade or so. Re-done football stadium is looking good too
  9. I'm on team kneel the ball as well. This ain't the BCS or Selection Committee picking top 4 where style points matter.
  10. I saw his only start against Notre Dame a couple years ago. He completed about 1/3 of his passes. Had a few good runs. Went back and watched a bit of the game when I heard he was coming to fargo. Hard to get a big takeaway from a freshman first start against a very good ND defense in South Bend. Notre Dame has made plenty of good qbs look bad the past 4 or 5 years. Time will tell if he is any good. He's certainly a good athlete and pretty big.
  11. Lol big oof.
  12. So thats why they all died...Sicatoka's shoddy craftsmanship.
  13. The vet tech program had a bunch of beagles students could take for walks...until I was a sophomore i think. They did bring in puppies every now and then during finals I think too.
  14. I havent been to Frisco since I graduated. Not sure I'd wanna travel across the country to watch the jackrabbits play. But I suppose if I was there I'd wear a random shirt.
  15. I said decade. 10 years. Like a normal unit of measurement. 11 years is an odd unit of measurement. 2010 was probably my favorite season in college after 2011. That team was all over the place. I think UNI sacked our little qb like 10 times or something wild like that. Got goosegged by Missouri State. Got an FBS win scoring like 9 points, demolished Montana State, took the eventual champ to OT....fun year.
  16. Uhh, I think an insecure person would say "wow if we had them at home we would have beat them!" A secure person who watched yesterdays game would say "NDSU was lucky to even be in the game no matter where it was played."
  17. Hmm...odd...I don't think 2010 is in the last decade, are you still living in 2020? Percentage wise, you are absolutely right. They play more games at home. Perhaps I could have been more precise with my wording, more of their losses in the last decade have come at home rather than on the road. 2011 - 1 loss, at home. 2012 - 1 loss, at home 2013 - undefeated 2014 - 1 loss, on road. 2015 - 2 losses, 1 each. 2016 - 2 losses, at home. 2017 - 1 loss, on road. 2018 - Undefeated 2019 - Undefeated 2020/21 - 3 losses, 2 road, 1 home. Total in last decade - 11 defeats. 6 at home.
  18. Did UND panic in the second half a bit? I wasn't able to watch but was surprised at how few carries he got in the second half. After watching the NDSU/UND game, he seems like quite a good player. Also, what a good name lol. Otis. The name alone merits about 20 carries a game. The only better name on UND is Ray Haas. A dude with that name was born to wear a neck roll and eat sauerkraut during halftime while listening to some polka.
  19. It is a QB driven game now, no doubt. But a good front 7 and o-line can still win you a title if you got a solid qb. Bison won a couple titles with game managers. Young Jensen was not anything to write home about. Young Stick was good, not great. Notre Dame made the CFP 2/3 years with a P5 version of Schuster (reluctant to push the field, normal arm talent). Turns out having a great defense and offensive line gets you places. If UND (or anyone for that matter) at the FCS level has a great line/front 7, and a competent QB, they will have a shot at winning a title. NDSU has proven that, though they've generally had other high quality pieces to work with. I'm far from an elite football mind, but I wouldn't stress out about your QB after losing a game at JMU. He looks pretty solid in my worthless opinion lol.
  20. Yeah seniors across America are in a weird spot rn.
  21. Between them and sdsu I think we could have a fun title game
  22. A bit. But its not like they ran out of time...they got where they needed to be. Just didn't do what they needed to do.
  23. Better teams also typically host playoff games. Obviously you'd prefer to play at home...sleep in your own bed, all that jazz. But...if you can't remotely move the ball, and its not some wild noisy crowd or trash weather...yeah, I got no sympathy.
  24. It's the annual SDSU collapse lol
  25. Ndsu's record at home during the last decade is worse than their road record i believe. I dont think the reason they couldn't move the ball effectively had anything to do with playing the game in Texas vs. Fargo.
