  1. Anyone else surprised UND is landing players from the heart of MVFC country?

I am not sure if I am surprised. I do see the allure of playing ball out west when you grew up in the heart of the MVFC; the prospect of traveling all over to play would have captivated me at that age.

  2. Something has been bugging me about GFH football coverage. If one looks over to inforum.com right now, news of the Bemidji receiver commit is front page news, huge picture and story on the rotating web top section.

Is this kid really a huge get? I dont know, but to the Forum's credit and NDSU's its covered as though it is. There have been stories written by Kolpack and co about every verbal so far this year.

At the Herald? Crickets. Schlossman does a tremendous job with hockey. If there was 1/3 of that type of reporting effort dedicated to football, recruiting etc it would be very big for the program. We on here know of 6 or so verbals for UND thus far. Has the Herald reported on any of the kids not hailing from Detroit Lakes? Hell, the hard part is done for them. How long does it take to go on Sioux Football Insider or SiouxSports Wiki then figure out a way to contact a kid or a kids coach and do a short story?

Maybe I'm just missing the stories. Maybe I have unrealistic expectations.

Your expectations are very realistic. I have been critical about the Herald's football coverage for quite some time now. Even back when I worked for the Herald as an advertising account exec (2 years there before moving to Colorado) I was questionable because I had direct access to these guys and they would never give me a clear answer when I would ask them about it. Interesting to say the least.

The news in GF is not that exciting so I have always been a bit boggled about the lack of coverage.

  3. Did anybody see the Forum today? GSU's buyout for the NDSU game was only $60,000! That's less than half of what it cost to replace the game. That is a terribly negotiated buyout by NDSU.

Faison looks pretty damn good getting $150,000 from UCA.

I am going to beat the trolls to the punch here in that we did get hosed by Idaho State as I think it was only a 25k buyout (buning at his finest).

To your point: Faison is indeed starting to get it done!

  4. Even if Bradley is again the best option at quarterback, I don't think there is any question the offense will be improved with so many players returning. The offensive line will be the best UND has had in several years and the receivers and backs should be better and more consistent as well.

So, I think the key to the whole season will be the defense. Even if it's ugly, as shown this year you can win a lot of games with a defense and UND was very good this season. As I said before the big key will be getting the ILB's to play close to the level we saw this year. Finding or developing a lock-down corner would help as well.

Good points, the only thing that I would like to add is the fact that I remember a lot of dropped balls early on, so Bradley did not get a ton of help. Things are looking up!

  5. It is pretty clear that are not willing to risk a loss. So in a sense they are indeed afraid to come up and play us in our house. It seems like a lot the "better" schools are afraid to come up to North Dakota in general (Georgia Southern was supposed to play at NDSU); a stigma of sorts seems to be there in that these teams think that the world is ending if they lose in North Dakota.

Props to PSU for stepping up (even though we are most likely paying them and they desperately need more d1 games) as I think they learned their lesson after this seasons schedule.

I know this is asking too much but can we just get the Mines game replaced? I don't care who it is as long as it counts (D1).

  6. The effects will come after Boise, SDSU (MTN West) and Houston, central florida, and SMU (conference USA) join the Big East. The MTN West will add Utah State and San Jose from the Wac. Possibly even UTEP from C-USA.

C-USA will also be doing some poaching from the Wac and sun belt; L tech is a big prospect.

Long story short the WAC and sun belt will get raided. As Star has pointed out the WAC may have to turn into a non-football conference because the only teams that will be left after all of this will be Idaho and a couple low level Texas teams (Texas State and UTSA).

My question at this point is what is Idaho going to do? back to the Sky?

If Utah State is gone and only Idaho is left than that is not appealing at all for the Montana teams to jump.

  7. UND football to host Portland State on Sept. 8, 2012 in nonconference game. Portland replaces Central Arkansas on UND schedule according to Wayne Nelson.

That is great news, way to go Faison!

  8. so it sounds very quiet on the realignment front. two questions:

who jumps first now that the football season is (nearly) finished? will this change in light of the possibility of auto qualifiers going away...

are there any rumblings out of Missoula and Bozeman (as rumored by the Texas State board at the end of last summer) of the Montanas going FBS?

I am very curious about this as well. Star?

  9. The Mountain West region has a lot of UND alumns and fits better for UND, I am not sure where NDSU's alumns are located but I am sure the MVFC is a perfect fit for their recruiting class. Each conference has pros and cons that recruits sees it depends on what the coach can sell to the kid that will make the difference.

My thoughts exactly. As a UND alumnus living in Colorado I couldn't be more happy about our Big Sky affiliation. I was at the Northern Colorado game and I met quite a few UND fans who drove up from Denver. I have yet to meet a NDSU alum out here and I have been here for over 2 years; I have even randomly met UND alumni out here skiing. There is even a bar in Denver that plays all available Sioux hockey games.

At this point the main thing missing is the local support. The kicker is that there is really not that much to do in GF like there is here so that cannot be used as an excuse and the tickets are dirt cheep. I grew up in Devils Lake and trust me in that you can hunt or fish and go to a football game all in the same day!

I also think winning will solve a lot of problems but the lack of impact from the SD game makes me wonder...

  10. That's the problem. The URL doesn't change from the main site so when you've created the uniform you cant copy the URL and go back to look at it. I could just use it as a profile pic.

I see enough of your profile picture to say YESSSSS! That is an amazing look and we should be actively pursuing something like this to essentially re-brand ourselves for entry into our new league the Big Sky. Our jerseys were below average this year for sure.

  11. I have pictures of a possible all black uni. How to post it I don't know. Any help?

Not entirely sure but if you post the url we can just copy and paste it into a browser. I am interested to see this because I think a mostly black uniform with the green helmets would be great.

  12. WYO leading Boise 7-0 with 5:15 to go in the 2nd. A helluva game on the smurf turf.......ch 616 Directv.....

watching in hd right now, WYO has impressed me this year and they are looking good so far.
