  1. So after our 16-0 win over Drake...lets turn to our next opponent FBS Idaho. Last year we lost 45-0. After seeing our defense stop drake from scoring in the redzone twice and seeing our offense not turnover the ball whats our chances to get our first FBS win?

    + no turnovers

    + stop the pass

    + penalties

I think these 3 are key for us to win the game.

    Final score 35-31 UND!!!

I watched part of the BD/ID game last nite and they are definitely not the team they were last year. That said we will still have to play a nearly perfect game with no effing stupid penalties; I guess in that regard we can only get better lol. Nearly 100 yards in penalties is like shooting yourself in both feet.

  2. So I heard all this complaining during the nickname debate about getting into a new conference and how great it would be mainly for a sport that can't sell out a home opener and is 4,000 seats empty for that opener. Someone please tell me again why it was a good idea to sell-out for that Big Sky conference? I know people say it is not just about hockey but in this case, hockey drives the money. I just think it was the wrong attitude to take. I also now I will get ripped for this but oh well.

Not in the new conference yet or even eligible for playoffs. Sioux fans have been spoiled by D2 success and the fans will come around once we have something to play for. Explain how we "sold out for the Big Sky"? You buddies with dumba$$ carlson by chance?

  3. Attendance: 8484

Kind of disappointing number. But being a Thursday night with people working tomorrow definately put a dent in it.

But the athletic department and the Al did smarten up and put almost all of their walkup ticket sales on the west side so it looks better on TV.

Good point, I have often wondered why that side is always so empty. Student section and that side in general looked almost full on TV. It was also really loud and it looked like the 12th man caused a couple false starts; I can't wait to see 12,500 pack in there!

  4. FYI.....I just signed up for the Directv Sports Pack so I can see the game tonight. Regular price is $12.99/ month. I asked them if they could discount it for me and they are giving me the first 3 months for $7.99. So......if you are signing up for it.....ask for a discount.

Dammit good work, I signed up the other day for the full 12.99. Oh well

  6. A U-shaped Alerus modified for basketball at one end could make some sense for both basketball and football. Trouble is the city-owned part of it makes it difficult politically.

If possible renovating the Al into a u shaped stadium would be great; while they are at it put some skylights in to add some natural light. But let's start winning consistently starting tomorrow before we do anything!

  8. And you are correct. I can't separate the fact that my own personal preferences may leach into my opinions from time to time. I would think, however, that there are more here in MN than in CO. But your point is still valid for the many UND fans in the CO. area.

    .

MN definitely has more alum then CO, no doubt; personal preferences leach in all our posts ;) . But I think UND is trying to align themselves with schools that are willing to invest in growth and long term success. I just don't think St. Cloud fits that mold at all. They suck at d2 sports and don't seem to be truly looking to lead the pack they are currently in. Point being is that aligning with all around D1 schools now is best for our future; as we all know the future is very unpredictable in all college sports. This is definitely personal, but all the past Sioux protests and presidential dialogue at SCSU are enough for me to simply move on without them; while still playing them in non-conference.

  9. What's your point? Last I checked 2 of 3 CO teams are in the NCHC and AFA is not joining. None of this changes the fact that a large number of UND grads live in or around the Twin Cities/Minnesota.

My point is that the MPLS market isn't the only main media market the UND touches; that's all. SCSU is still a joke.

  10. I'm not knowledgeable enough about the financial dynamics of which school should or should not be invited to be in the NCHC but I would take St. Cloud over Tech. Sure, Tech has tradition and the McNaughton but St. Cloud is typically a better program, has some good fans, and is upgrading their facility. It's ok not to like St. Cloud, but I think they are a decent program, even if they lack the resources and some of the commitment of programs like UND.

Plus, their location is a lot better for a large % of UND fans that live in MN, vs having to travel to Michigan or Colorado or (insert outstate location here).

A large percentage of us also live in Colorado; don't forget that. SCSU is a joke and they have consistently thrown us under the bus when it came to the Sioux name so I am all for a little extra travel. last year there was just as many Sioux fans in Colorado Springs for the CC series as tyhere was Tiger fans; i was even able to buy a green beer!!

  11. Attendance of 9300 and a 45-10 win for the Sioux.

I wonder how many people will be tuning in via FCS, website, and FSSN? I will be leaving work at 4 so I can be home and ready to get rowdy by 6 (MTN timezone)! I am excited for UND football and I live in Denver ( tons of distractions); Next year with the Big Sky TV I will be able to watch EVERY league game! I just hope people that are able to go see the games in person get excited again!!!

  12. As down as I was on Goska last year he is a senior and deserves every chance and opportunity to win the job. I think for that reason there may be a bit of politics or whatever at work here. I have not seen Bradley play, and to Goska and Hendrickson's benefit of the doubt the WR core was slim to none last year, but if Goska or Hendrickson were to start I would say the season is pretty much in doubt already. Hope Bradley does well and stays healthy.

I agree. Since Goska is a senior and a leader it is tough to see someone new come in but last year was a disaster! i think Bradley has the tools to be great so hopefully the team can put him in a position to win. This is where it gets interesting with Goska and Hendrickson because they are both very talented; so they need to see the field in some capacity. I can't wait until thursday; will be watching on FCS from Colorado!

  13. That could work, I wonder when the naming rights expire for the Alerus. How cool would it be to watch basketball in the "Phil Jackson" arena!

That would be pretty cool! It really is a nice facility so it should be used for some sports down the road (a bit of renovation perhaps), but at this point who knows right.

  14. Again you're wrong and for the same reason. The actual quality of the football being played is almost inconsequential to the number of tickets that are sold to games!

Ask yourself this question: would you be less likely to buy tickets to a UND football game vs. Montana if you knew that every UND and Montana senior player was suspended for that game (make up your own reason why that happened)? If you say yes, then I don't think you're being honest with me or yourself. So there you have it, the quality of play has undoubtedly decreased, yet the excitement of the Montana game has not. The game still sells out.

The reason to buy that ticket is the excitement of that match up between UND and Montana, two great flagship schools from two great states and with two great football programs. It's an exciting event to be at. That's the draw. Somehow, UND's program has to generate that kind of excitement week after week to sell out every home game.

You can't sell that excitement to people by proclaiming that UND is now DI and therefore they have better talent on the field.

I don't know man, a lot of people in the GF area are stubborn fair weather fans that are used to playoffs every year so what you are saying isn't entirely true; though you do have a good point point. I think that once the team is consistently putting a better product on the field against real teams (which I believe is happening) more and more people will slowly and steadily come to the games.

  15. Did anyone else notice the recent ads that UND has run on the Twins telecasts and the Vikings game over the weekend? Nicely done in my opinion. Wonder what the results will be and what the motivation is. I assume to reach more southern Minnesota HS kids and their folks on considering UND as an option after they graduate. I was surprised and impressed. Any one else?

I wasn't able to see it and I can't seem to find it online either. Happen to know of a link where I can watch them?

  16. NDSU's football facilities are on par with those in the MAC or Sunbelt. There is no "need" to do anything to Go FBS. After you make that FBS commitment, strategic improvements would follow. No need to do anything to "GO" FBS. Getting closer to sellouts for every game is the Need right now.

I think you are spot on. My hope is that NDSU and UND make this jump together this time (down the road of course but I think it is inevitable).

  17. As much as people hate on Al Carlson, he has a much better political understanding of the Big Sky situation than the media or most of the people on this board accept.

Straight and simple, the Big Sky situation is certainly a bluff. That's one thing that Kelley and Carlson would both agree on if either was honest. If the media ever got a story from the Weber State or Southern Utah Presidents and their views on the issue, those type interview might turn this state upside down.

Dalrymple has too many "friends" that he needs to protect to really tell us the truth about the whole fiasco.

If the anticipated Spirit Lake lawsuit results in restraining orders against both the SBoHE and the NCAA, the Big Sky issue is moot for another year.

Intriguing, would you elaborate on that?

  18. I know they all suck! Nothing will compare but I don't want to see some random committee choose some crappy name like the flickertails or force of the north. Lose lose scenario. I would love to see somebody come up with something unique; I try and I come up with nothing.

  19. Sun Dogs is the worst I've heard so far.

Realistically I am for no nickname but that is not an option. So if that is the worst then please enlighten me on a better nickname that is actually relevant?
