Check out Valpo's site for the main reasons they left...travel expenses and student/athletes being away from class...hopefully by the time we get there...su's "ACADEMIC STANDARDS" will still be up to "par" for DI....

I think the worst thing about Jordy leaving would be - HE had the chance to do something Zach never could have...go down in UND lore and win a NCAA Championship!!! well...ndsu IS nd's 1st division I university (I assume it's true because I saw it on a bison fans banner and we all know anyone from ND wouldn't lie ) here's one we could put up... NORTH DAKOTAS 1st DIVISION I CHAMPIONS (TIMES 7!!) Call us when you guys win 7 Division I championships in ANYTHING - seriously... (and we'll count equestrian, badminton, softball, foosball, hackeysack or ANY SPORT you think would count!!) The bottom line is - regardless of how many schools play a particular sport - it all comes down to who WINS a National Championship - if you want to diminish a win against Michigan or Boston College because you classify it as a "minor sport" - go ahead! I'm guessing those schools would say ndsWHOGIVESA*UCK???

I was against UND going DI a couple years ago but now i realize we really don't have a choice...SO if you're going to do it...DO IT!! If you jump out of a plane - you don't fret about pulling the chute or not...PULL IT!!! Either you'll float to the ground or it fails and you plunge to a certain* death! (*or prolonged ordeal like ndsu ) That's exactly what the "exploratory year" was designed for...to determine if you CAN do it!! If UND can't...they can back out! But either *hit of get off the pot! UND's hand wringing about this whole thing is starting to get annoying

I'd be more curious to hear why UnkyJoe thinks ndsu is so "special" they should be considered "different" from the other colleges in ND?? Is it because they're a (self described) "BIG di univeristy???" More money perhaps? Do you guys need it???

For the sake of everyone here I'm going to skip the "tongue-in-check" thing IowaBison...I just don't have the energy anymore... Here's a little story for you...my wife and I recently got back from a trip to Vegas. We stayed at the Imperial Palace because I figured...hey, if Ralph tossed $100 million plus+ GF's way? The least I can do is return the favor with a couple hundred dollars. When we checked in - the desk clerk (from Pakistan I think?) said..."oh - you're from Grand Forks?" He went on to rave about how Ralph kept everyone on the payroll after 9/11 when all the other Vegas hotels were laying people off left and right and how he and other employees missed him after his passing. I told him we owed him a lot too and lifted up my REA luggage bag and he smiled and gave us a free room upgrade and moved us to a more quiet floor...no extra charge. That whole "Hitler" party thing was a JOKE! (apparently "big time" schools have no sense of humor ) Nice try though making a mountain out of an OLD mole hill. Maybe someday someone will give 'su money like that then you can cry about the rectal exam HE/SHE receives about it...even 5 years after the fact!!! Get a life...

If 'su would have been a "LEADER" - you would have moved up 20 years ago when your "major sport" DID rule DII football! You only (finally and selfishly) pulled the chute when you realized you couldn't bank your future on a two-decade old reputation you couldn't maintain. You left with your tail between your legs but countered it by promptly throwing your noses up in the air - I guess one of your engineering degrees DOES have some practical applications!

Enginers are great! - they keep the POCKET PROTECTOR industry going....how many doctors or lawyers have you graduated? (answer: ZERO! ) If you want to go "profession for profession" - I'll take UND anytime! To your other point...all schools are looking for $$$ - seems like a couple weeks ago - a generous donor kicked about $10 million UND's way...when was the last time someone gave "nd's 1st di university" a gift like that - and I won't even mention our hockey arena and that whole thing " BUT you still have the Benson/Bunker fieldhouse -- that's nice....for volleyball
