  1. Good point. I do think Edisness will emerge as a solid starter for us this season, but it will take some more time.
  2. Wonder Boy Kangas just gave up a softie to the Huskies. 1-1, 7:28 left in the First Period. Huskie Power Play coming up.
  3. That is what I have been saying for years! Too bad the Grand Forks media hasn't figured it out yet.
  4. Please, let's not go political here. Our favorite hockey team in the whole world has just gotten off to an 0-2 start to the 08-09 campaign and that is what we should focus on. Bring on the Mavericks!
  5. This has become a tired old excuse for this program. What did this "hot" goalie do before today? Wasn't his save percentage in the .800 range? I don't think he's the second coming of Ed Belfour. I'll bet anyone on this forum that he'll get lit up in his next start or at least go back into his previous form. There are much better goaltenders in our league than this, so we better learn how to put the puck into the net. Nobody else ever has this problem except us. And no one else's hometown media harps on it as much as the Grand Forks media (and yes Brad Schlossman, that means you). This team should drop out of the national rankings entirely until their record is above .500 again. And even once that happens, they shouldn't be in the Top 10 until they've proven they can beat somebody. It's very early and there is a lot of young talent on this team, but this cannot be allowed to continue. Losing to the Terriers is not all that bad, losing to a program that has never won anything is just not acceptable. The games in Mankato are always tough and we had better pull this together or we'll be looking at an 0-4 start and an 0-2 start in the league.
  6. I have a feeling that when this rivalry does get restarted, the first game will make the Sioux-Gopher playoff match-ups feel like a walk in the park when it comes to the intensity and nastiness of both the players and fans. Personally, I can't wait!
  7. The video is cheesy, but it represents the first real golden age of Fighting Sioux Hockey (the Dean Blais era being the other). And I also miss the 1980's!
  8. Jason Blake transferred from Ferris State after his freshman year there and sat one year before playing on the 1997 NCAA title team and two subsequent WCHA title teams in 1998 and 1999. He was not a walk-on. I don't think we would have won it all that year without him.
  9. This is the first really good news to come out of the Women's Hockey program since they became a varsity program. It's early, but it looks like this program might win some games this season and get a reputation as a place where kids want to come.
  10. I could see us finishing in the Top 25 next season assuming our recruits pan out and we don't get banged up too bad. But we don't have the schedule strength this season to pull it off.
  11. The Twins always pull this crap. Sweep the White Sox at home and then lose two in a row to the Kansas City Freaking Royals! That is proof that even if they do win the Central, they aren't going anywhere in the playoffs anyway. Consistency is what wins in October and this club doesn't have that. At least the Yankees won't be there.
  12. Personally, I don't care about poll rankings at this point. We are in Year 1 of the transition. Now by Year 3, I think it will matter more if we are ranked because that is when we will start measuring ourselves against other FCS programs. But the first two years are about bringing in better athletes and adjusting to the rules and the pace of the game.
  13. I share your feelings on this. However, I am viewing this as a five year process and we are only 5 games into it. If we are still getting torched downfield two years from now, then I'll be concerned. But I think by that time Mussman and his staff will have more speed and depth in the program and we'll start having more success.
  14. Thank you for the kind remarks. We made too many mistakes and it caught up to us. Good luck the rest of the year.
  15. FG no good for Hellevang. Sioux lose 38-35. Dang it!
  16. SE LA trying to ice the kicker.
  17. Ball at SE LA 32 yard line. Time for a 49 yard FG attempt. Come on Hellevang, you can do this!!!
  18. Strange play leads to a big gain to the SE LA 46 yard line. 12 seconds left.
  19. Incomplete at the 50 for Caufield. 32.4 seconds left.
  20. UND will start on their own 37 yard line. Come on Freund, we need your magic NOW.
  21. SE LA takes the safety, but is flagged for illegal procedure. Penalty declined. Safety. 38-35 SE LA
  22. 4th down SE LA. Ball on 7 yard line. Looks like we will get the ball back. And there goes the feed again! Now it's back.
  23. There's nothing like some good old fashioned Southern home cooking by the refs to give you that edge you need when your back is against the wall!
  24. Sioux will use their last TO. 1:27 left. 3rd down and 8 coming up.
  25. Ball on 1 yard line. This could be interesting.
