Army drops ROTC Helicopter Program at UND
fightingsioux4life replied to Vegas_Sioux's topic in Community
Why does every other thread in the Community forum have to degenerate into political mudslinging?!?! Good grief, lets talk about the impacts on UND and the region and not who's fault it is. There are plenty of other places on the Internet you can go and debate this. -

I was in the student section that night. There was blood all over the ice. From that day forward, nobody in the conference dared screw around with Mr. Commodore. He became one of the most feared players in the WCHA.

Countdown begins! UND vs. NDSU
fightingsioux4life replied to UNDsportsFANATIC's topic in Men's Basketball
The Force is the first team that has worked down there; they had two or three other teams that just didn't draw very well. Let's see if they can keep it going. -
I agree with you on this, but I think we better work on thinking big on our football schedule first. More DI FCS games, fewer NAIA and Division II games. Then I think big things are possible.

ESPN is reporting that Paterno is hospitalized in serious condition. What a fall from grace this man has suffered. Whatever you think of his role in the sex abuse scandal, it is sad to see someone crash and burn like this.
-
Agree with you. We just don't have any depth. Hopefully next year guys will stay healthy and we'll get a new crop of recruits to inject some life into the team.
-
Okay, I was exaggerating a little bit. But we just don't have much depth overall and it's hard to win consistently without it.

Roebuck retiring after this year?
fightingsioux4life replied to star2city's topic in Women's Basketball
If this had anything to do with his comments at the luncheon last week, I will have a BIG problem with it. If it was just Roebuck deciding to call it a career, I am fine with it. Faison better make the right choice on this or we could end up like NDSU's women's program, which has really hit the skids. -
This has been a problem all year long, even before all the injuries. Besides Kristo, there just aren't a lot of goal scorers on this team. This team will have to fight to get home ice, fight to get to St. Paul and fight to win the Final Five. We won't get an at-large bid this year.

One of the greatest athletes/performers/showmen/entertainers of all time. You either loved him or hated him and that is one timeless definition of greatness. Happy 70th birthday champ!

I think most enlistments took place after Pearl Harbor (December 7th, 1941).

Apples and oranges. The AAU titles were won playing local amateur community teams with rosters of various make-ups. The WCHA has been one of the best conferences in college hockey for years; the WCHA name stands for quality. I simply won't tolerate the Rodential faithful using the AAU titles to claim that we are tied in national titles at 7-7 (I have heard comments like that from them, not making it up). It's pure, unadultered apples and oranges.
-
What teams did you beat for those AAU titles? Were they tournament titles or beauty contests like the Bull Crap Series in football? Those are questions I would want answered.

This is my big concern about this weekend. On Saturday night against Minnesota, we didn't get into those critical areas. Both of our goals were from the outside and that usually isn't good enough to win at this level. We need to get into the goaltender's kitchen and make his life uncomfortable or else we stand a chance to get shut-out twice this weekend.
-
Yeah, they hang banners for every little thing they win down there. They even have two AAU title banners from the early 20th century hanging from the rafters. We hang banners for WCHA and NCAA titles and we have one banner with all our WCHA playoff titles listed on it and that is it. And I hope it stays like that.

Countdown begins! UND vs. NDSU
fightingsioux4life replied to UNDsportsFANATIC's topic in Men's Basketball
Yawn, sorry, get lost troll. -
So you want UND to settle for being a glorified junior college? North Dakota State College of Science for Potato Bowl here we come! We'll keep so much of the gate from that game we'll balance the budget in no time.
-
Well, I am sorry you think it's old, but it's never going to go away, not with both North Dakota schools in different conferences. I just think it's ironic that the Bison wanted into the Big Sky Conference and had to settle for the Summit League and now they think that's the greatest mid-major league there is (or at least they talk like it). Anyway, it's a rivalry and part of that is ripping your rival whenever possible. I hate "duckie and bunny" sports talk.
-
You Bison fans think it's all about the DI Power Rankings for Men's Basketball. Choice of a conference is more than that. It's about where you are and where you want to go. The Big Sky Conference has schools like Montana and Montana State, which are the big attraction in their respective towns. Who the heck cares about UMKC in KC? If you guys want to be a "big time, mid-major" program, you should pull every trick out of the book to get into the Missouri Valley Conference sometime in the future. I hate to tell you this, but the Scummit won't get you where you want to go. If the champion of your conference can make a run in March and win a couple of games, I will give the Summit League props. Until then, they remain a average, run-of-the-mill conference.
-
That right there is just plain wrong. But I give you props for keeping the peace at home.

I don't think there is a conspiracy about it, but when a prominent media outlet like the Herald uses a term enough, it will develop a place in our minds and in our psyche and it could develop a life of its own. That is all I am concerned about. I want our new name (whatever it is) to be able to stand the test of time and to give us a solid identity so that marketing the athletic department and school are easier.
