I have seen it, it's pretty good.

And in other news...........the sun came up in the east this morning.

I think he is talking about the voting contest being a waste of time with regard to the outcome of the Hobey Baker voting process. The home crowd does a good job of showing their appreciation to the players at every home game by packing an 11,500 seat arena in the dead of winter in the middle of the frozen tundra of the Red River Valley.

I think they secretly care more about this than maintaining the rivalry with us. We should call it "The DQ Cup Rule"!

FAN VOTE: Greatest Sioux Jersey Ever Tournament!
fightingsioux4life replied to Big A HG's topic in Men's Hockey
I personally think those Nike Black Swift jerseys are overrated, so I voted against it in the final. Still cannot believe that the 1987 white jersey didn't make the final. -
If Panzer had played for Boston College or (and yes, I am going to say it) Minnesota, he would have been handed the Hobey on a silver platter. Forwards with big numbers almost always win the award.* Especially if they are seniors with a proven track record of putting up big numbers against solid competition week after week, year after year.** And goaltenders definitely shouldn't win it if they benefit from a trapping, defense-first system.*** And like a couple of others have already said on here, shoo, scram. *unless they are from a smaller school **unless they are from North Dakota ***unless they need an excuse not to give it to a forward from a smaller school and a forward from North Dakota had all the traditional qualifications to win it.

Generally, Hockey East teams that are in major media markets and/or have affiliation in prominent Division I conferences for their other sports have a statistically better chance of having a Hobey winner than a North Dakota or a Clarkson. Duluth has been an outlier to that over the years, I will agree with you there. I think after the Great Panzer Train Robbery in 2001, there was an uptick in non-big time schools having Hobey winners (Denver, Colorado College, Duluth, ect). I think there was a real backlash from people after that and I think it had an impact on how the award was given out. But I still can't get too excited about it. I care more about team championships (NCAA and otherwise).

NORTH DAKOTA @ MINNESOTA - Saturday, one last dance....
fightingsioux4life replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
But first we would need something to take its place. Maybe a joint U.S./Canadian Association of some kind with schools from both sides of the border? Anything but the corrupt, greedy den of thieves we have right now. -

USCHO used to have a smaller, more intimate forum where real die-hard fans used to hang out. But when they started that whole "Vote for Hobey" thing, it increased the number of people that had access to the forum. Now it's dominated by a bunch of attention-seeking sloths who know next-to-nothing about college hockey. It is a shame what has happened to it. -
I guess I haven't cared all that much about the Hobey since Panzer was robbed in 2001. Of course I was happy for Ryan Duncan winning it in 2007 and I'll be happy if Corban Knight wins it this year. But I just don't get as excited about it like I used to. I think they should have a national award for each position (forward, defense, goalie) and not a political award decided by where you go to school and if that school is loved by the national media. Back to regularly-scheduled Hobey campaigning.

Wow, some of us on here are a little ornery! Come on people, let's remember who our real enemies are (Minnesota, Boston College, WCHA refs) and quit attacking each other. We all need to be on the same page in March when the games really count! GO SIOUX!!! -
We should bring back the "Common Man Football Standings" for the NHL so we can have a "beat themselves" column for the Avs! Then those announcers would feel better about the asinine comments they make during games.
-
You are prophetic! It's Niners vs. Ravens, Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh. I am going with the Niners by 7; they have found the right QB and have everything else they need to finish the job this time.

Everyone needs to stop giving Minnesota the national title and taking us out of the race for the MacNaughton Cup and calm down. It is mid-January. There are 3-4 teams bunched up at the top of the league standings right now. The playoffs are a couple of months away. Our team won't be in a slump forever. Once we get our line combos figured out and get back to playing solid D in front of our own net, we'll be okay. Like I said earlier this week, whatever happens this weekend, both teams will have a lot of important games down the stretch. I want a split, but getting swept wouldn't be the end of the world or the end of our season. This group still has a ton of potential and I still have faith they can realize it. GO SIOUX!!!
-
Let's make sure that the Minnesota Rouser is only played at the beginning and end of each period!!! Win tonight, sweep tomorrow!!! GO SIOUX!!!

It looks like it's related to the oil patch. It would be nice to capture all that natural gas and use it instead of burning it off.

Lucia speaks for Broten, Woog and Parise and saves the world
fightingsioux4life replied to yababy8's topic in Men's Hockey
They aren't doing their about-face with the sole intention of not playing UND, but it does provide them with a convenient alibi to avoid continuing the rivalry and look generous towards the in-state schools at the same time. I just couldn't let people come on here and insist that the U of M cared so much about other D-I programs in the state when they never have in the past. Also, to have "a much bigger relationship" with schools, you have to show an interest in playing them (and not just when you have to, but when you want to). And the U of M never bent over backwards to schedule these schools before they joined the WCHA. So, please explain these "big relationships" because I just don't see them. -
The U of M is only concerned about the U of M and that is it. They have never cared about the other D-I programs in the state until now, when they have big holes in their schedule and when they need a clever excuse not to schedule UND. What is laughable is that you believe what they tell you.
-
But the U of M really, really cares about the other programs in Minnesota! The DQ Cup is just way too prestigious for us to lose! Yeah, and pigs started flying in Iowa today.

Don't talk about GPL that way; you'll get fellow Gopher fans mad at you. -

I have been following this rivalry since the mid-1990's and I have had very easy access to Minnesota media. The truth hurts, doesn't it? -

I am getting really sick and tired of hearing this crap. For years, the U of M couldn't care less if schools like Bemidji State, Mankato State and St. Cloud State ever established themselves at the Division I level. They even pitched a hissy fit when KMSP-9 decided to air St. Cloud State games back in the 1990's, even though they had their own sweetheart cable deal with Midwest Sports Channel. Gopher propaganda outlets like Let's Play Hockey, WCCO's Sid Hartman and MSC made sure that most (if not all) media coverage focused on the Gophers and that's it. You wouldn't even know if anyone else had a Division I program in the state except for the mighty Golden Gophers (yes, even Duluth got ignored most of the time). But now, when the U of M needs an excuse not to play UND out of conference, all this love and affection for the State Universities of Minnesota suddenly comes out. What a crock of crap! Please go to GPL or whereever else people will buy this garbage because nobody here is buying it without a gigantic block of salt. -
Get your pictures taken while you can. I will miss the old place. Lot of great players, great games, great moments.

You know, I loved ripping on Wooger when I was a student, but he's a decent guy and has always looked at UND as a true rival and respects us as a program. Unlike someone else we know.
