  1. http://medical-schools.findthebest.com/l/110/University-of-North-Dakota-School-of-Medicine-and-Health-Sciences

Research Smart Rank: 110 out of 157 (Below Average)

Primary Care Smart Rank: 148 out of 157 (Damn near the worst)

MCAT Score: 29 out of 45 (3 points below average)

Overall Rank: 124 out of 157 (well below average and in the bottom 1/3)

I have strong ties to the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences and the state of North Dakota, so I'm actually able to understand the importance of this medical school, unlike the basic academics that arise from NDSU.

North Dakota is a rural state; that's just how it is.

Therefore, rural medicine is the top priority. Also, given the oil boom in the western part of the state, the influx of people and the rising state population, and the poor physician to patient ratio, the necessity of the ONLY medical school in the state of North Dakota is high.

Yes, the UNDSMHS is not highly ranked in many categories, but it is highly reputable in those that matter. For instance, it is tied for the 2nd best rural medicine program in the nation!

By no means is the UNDSMHS the "worst" medical school in the country, as stated by some NDSU trolls. If NDSU graduates can't look through their green and yellow goggles and see the state importance of UND and their medical program, then I guess my occasional criticism of NDSU's educational quality seems justified.

  2. Expected that second half collapse. Look at Jones' overall DI record over the past few seasons? Not good...

His conference success has fooled a lot of people. In reality, the top schools of the conference, namely Weber State, have still always topped Jones and UND.

  3. Be positive. I am going to try it tonight.

Getting blown out against a poor NDSU squad has still left a bad taste in my mouth. With that said, I obviously hope UND can somehow find a way to pull out the game and get a huge win.

  4. The only fan base I know that has a perpetual inferiority complex and a whole lot of jealousy is this one. As far name calling I Hardly think yours is exempt. Hell you guys get into more problems with the Sioux name than anyone. As far as the idiots that come over here and brag about recruiting - well take it will a grain of salt. We'll only know in a couple of years won't we?

Nearly every NDSU game I've been at, even the ones not including UND, I've heard the Sioux suck !@#$ chant. That's appalling and only confirms that NDSU fans inherently possess an inferiority complex.

UND events include absolutely NO chants pertaining to the Ag school, unless of course UND is actually playing NDSU.

  5. Here is the bottom line.

11 National Championships to 1 in the favor of NDSU.

If you guys had such a vastly superior recruiting advantage due to academics, I would have expected you to win more than 1 national championship in over 110 years of playing football.

Academics is only part of the equation; anyone willing to engage in a rational conversation would acknowledge that. NDSU's leadership is far more committed to football than is UND's leadership; that has and always will be the difference until something changes there. Fortunately, UND upped their commitment a year ago when they hired Bubba and increased the coaching salary pool.

  6. You are right. UND just rolls in the recruits who become doctors, lawyers, etc. Give me a break.

Last time I checked, you need to get an undergraduate degree to get into law or medical school to become doctor or lawyer. There have been a lot of players to come through NDSU and went to to graduate school somewhere else, including UND.

Also NDSU has a great business school that is AACSB accredited, just like UND's business school.

If you honestly want to argue an advantage to recruiting through academics, I would say NDSU has it with their AG program. NDSU's offensive line has been phenomenal throughout the last half century, and a lot of the lineman have been rural farm boys who go to NDSU due to their AG program.

Aviation and petroleum engineering, two programs you intentionally avoided, are common among athletes and they are not offered at NDSU. Also, UND's business program possesses far greater networking than NDSU's program via alumni base and simply online education opportunities. I'm not one to pursue the argument that one school is straightforwardly better than the other, but I will say that UND offers many programs that NDSU does not offer. To say NDSU has an advantage with their agriculture program is ridiculous; it may help to a degree, but how many of NDSU's all-conference players over the past few seasons have been pursuing an education in agriculture? Very few...

NDSU's 2014 first team all-conference players and their academic major:

    FB Andrew Bonnet - finance

OT Joe Haeg - civil engineering

OL Jesse Hinz - criminal justice & Spanish

DE Kyle Emanuel - construction management

S Christian Dudzik - sports management & philosophy

    S Colten Heagle - marketing

P Ben LeCompte - sports management

As you can see, not a single first team all-conference player is directly majoring in agriculture. I apologize for actually doing the research and shutting down your insane assumption.

  7. Faison needs to step down, Kelley needs to revisit his focus on collegiate athletics and the tradition of excellence UND athletics is supposed to possess, and then a new, energetic AD needs to be hired.

Just thinking aloud my Christmas wish list...

  8. Playing time definitely. Academics are a wash. Where are the facilities superior to NDSU's. NDSU has 3 perfectly good outdoor practice fields, one with the same field turf as in the dome, they put a bubble over Dacotah Field for the month or two that it is uncomfortable to practice outside. They are putting a state of the art weight and training facility in the SHAK. The football offices, team meeting rooms and film rooms are as good as there are in FCS. The stadium and game day atmosphere are second to none in the FCS. Exactly where is the advantage for UND?

UND offers academic opportunities that NDSU can't always match: aviation, business, medical, law, and petroleum engineering, just to name a few. Also, NDSU's practice bubble is a joke compared to UND's $20 million HPC. Not every prospect just jumps at the winningest FCS program of the pasts few seasons, especially when most DI

prospects do not want to attend FCS schools but rather have their sights on FBS.

UND has the ability to offer playing time, specific academic

majors, a great practice/training facility, and most importantly, a good family coaching atmosphere.

All of these things don't create an advantage for UND over NDSU, but they do allow UND to recruit many of the same athletes that NDSU recruits.

  9. That may work for UND coaches when it's the kids only offer, but if they give a kid with multiple offers a deadline, my guess is the recruit tells them thanks but no thanks. I don't think UND has that kind of leverage at this point on the recruiting trail.

As much as you may hate reality because you think NDSU is a football program everyone knows about, the bottom line is both NDSU and UND are FCS schools. Most DI athletes don't dream about going to either NDSU or UND, so when FBS offers don't work out, they then fall back to the realization they have to go FCS and often times UND and NDSU fall on the same level to them. It's then about the recruiting relationships they make. Of course, for NDSU they can offer recent success and national exposure, but it's still only relative because NDSU has no exposure compared to Big Ten and Big 12 FBS schools. UND can now counter will academics, playing time, and facilities in the indoor practice facility. What I'm saying is that delusional fans like you don't truly understand the gap between the programs; it isn't as big as you think.

With competent coaching and recruiting, which UND now has, UND football will be back to a winning level very soon. As for Faison's commitment to football, that still needs work. NDSU's athletic department deserves as much credit as anything for their recent success; they have bought in and influenced generous support from alumni and fans.

  10. Your squad may have that many transfers next year between FBS and JUCO's the way Bubba's recruiting season is going.

Yeah, well if Bubba pulls off a Sam Houston State and UND makes it to the FCS semi-finals in his second season with all those transfers, you won't hear many complaints.

  11. At this point, I would say Illinois State is the best looking team thus far. NDSU slipped by Coastal at home whereas Illinois State went on the road and beat EWU. I'd take ISU over NDSU in Frisco, but I reserve the right to change my opinion after viewing the semi-final games. And, of course, Frisco is basically a home game for NDSU so there's always that too...

  12. They like the idea of playing touch football, aka Big Sky football. Hardly any tackling goes on in the Big Sky and most players are done with football come Thanksgiving.

Because of that, UND will be winning that conference within a few years. I see UND having a winning conference record as soon as next year. IMO, given the resources and facilities, the only schools UND should have to really compete with in the BSC are the Montana's and EWU.

  13. Nobody can win at UND. NOBODY. Get it through your head already!!! We are lucky to even have him stay as long as he has. I am sure he has had many other offers to move on.

It is too damn COLD. 17-17 is the best that any coach could do at UND and we should all accept that fact.

This winter, heck with Arizona or Florida; I'm going to stay down in Fargo and watch NDSU basketball, because the climate is so much better than Grand Forks and so is the basketball recruiting. I mean, at least according to your insane self it is.

Bottom line, NDSU/Fargo gets pretty cold too.

  14. I think his point is that the Fargo metro is 3 times the size of GF. It is growing probably 5 times faster than GF. That results in significantly higher sources to draw corporate dollars from, and NDSU is doing a good job of getting those corporate dollars. They have better attendance at alot of their sporting events, not only because they've been successful in recent years, but also because they have a much larger population base to draw fans from nearby. They get 10,000 more people to football games than does UND. That equates roughly $900,000 more in revenue over a six game season. The last few seasons they've gotten about 1,300 mor per game for basketball. That's another $200,000 a year in revenue over what we get. Again, they have been very good the last few years so that is a big part, but so is their location.

You do realize that many of NDSU's donors do not live in Fargo, right? It's all about reaching out and having a plan, which is something UND's athletic department is lacking in comparison to NDSU.

  15. Fire Jones for not finishing in top 4 this season is like someone saying Duke should fire Coach K if Duke fails to reach the final 4 Every year. Guess what folks UND is a mens hockey school that it everything else is an after thought. UND has no money for a great HC they have very little in state talent. They have no video board. It is damn cold place to be . And recruits love 20 below weather and playing for a school where hockey is the king sport and basketball is just another pawn sport.

First off, Coach K doesn't lose every road OOC game. If he did, he would be canned. Secondly, everyone is saying that there needs to be more of an investment in basketball, thus greater coaching salary and improvements to the BESC. Faison and the athletic department are an issue because there certainly are alumni for both football and basketball out there that could contribute big time, but the AD is too busy focusing on hockey to consider such a venture. New leadership and new direction is needed for UND at the top.

  16. Fire Jones crowd must be high cause it ain't gonna happen! Thank goodness these jokers do not have any authority or college coaches would be getting fired every day of the season all over the USA. Jones however will not get an extension unless he gets top 6 in Big Sky. 90% of the time when a team loses 5 of top 6 scores they take a nose dive .... and UND AD is sane enough to know that. Nuts to think UND losing 5 of top 6 and predicted to finish 9th by every Objective preseason mag should finish top 4. Fact is UND has lost one game that Vegas (where money talks )had them favored . The also have one upset vs the money winning at Drake. Facts!

You want to stop acting stupid and actually have an intelligent conversation regarding this? NDSU has done far better than UND in men's basketball despite dealing with similar assets. The key issue is the lack of commitment by the athletic department: Jones is only paid 100K for a reason. UND needs higher demand coaches (increase salary) and more up-to-date improvements (video boards, higher bleachers) to the BESC.

Simply stating that this team lost a bunch of contributors is a moot point used to fool the casual fans. Anyone with awareness of collegiate basketball in the Dakotas knows UND basketball has very little support compared to NDSU, SDSU, and USD. Also, the on the court record has been poor the past few seasons under Jones when you look at OOC games, particularly on the road.
