  1. Discipline is required for the type of team philosophy you just described, and, of course, it is what Bubba wants. Studsrud's fumbles were undisciplined. The offensive line's struggles were partially discipline related. The punt block was a mental lapse. The penalties were mistimed and hurt UND. If UND wants to win with how they're built, they need to win the turnover battle. The fumbles and blocked punt absolutely killed UND vs Stony Brook. That can't happen vs BGSU and the subsequent games if UND is to win. Have to limit the mistakes! Hopefully the discipline improves with time and additional practice/coaching.
  2. Im going to be super cliche, but that's the way it needs to be. On to the next ball game. As for the injuries, next man up. As for the poor performances, best man will play. Bowling Green is a winnable game. You can argue likelihood and percentages all you want, but the bottom line is UND needs to focus on themselves (no penalties, no turnovers, better punt protection, better QB progression and throws, etc.) and expect to win against BGSU. Injuries are a part of football. You can deal with them by improving depth via recruiting and/or player development, both of which this is not the time for. I feel bad for Clive, but as for the team, they can't dwell on that. The true freshmen WRs and FBS transfer Mercer and Alex Reed need to step up. Luke Stanley will certainly be the go to guy for now. Lastly, Keaton just needs to play better. Last night he had poor throws and poor pocket awareness. Timing just seemed off. Against BGSU, UND's offensive line and QB play needs to show the most improvement in order for UND to get their first win.
  3. Remember y'all, NDSU was up in fits after their first game of last season. It worked out all right for them. I'm not saying UND is going to run the table, but there certainly is more than enough season left to salvage.
  4. An ugly loss that easily could've been a win. Add on the serious injuries and potential damage to confidence and community support and this all around is a horrible situation. Fortunately, there is time to turn this around. That needs to start with the performance out at Bowling Green. We all know, from a strict number standpoint, that UND can only afford to lose 2 more games all season.
  5. Lose Georges and Reyes and then lose the ball game. Bad, bad night. Sure has a deflating feeling to it.
  6. Defense is playing really really well, but no Reyes is troubling. He can cause a turnover at anytime. Offense needs to get going ... False start won't do that!
  7. Studsrud is still playing poor. He needs to gain his composure and play like he did to end the year last season.
  8. Bad, bad deal. Bad. Not going to speculate, but this is not good.
  9. Just need to put together a good 2nd half and UND will leave with a win. Turnovers have been the story so far. UND needs to take care of the ball and look for another take away from Stony Brook.
  10. Sure did. UND was in field goal range. Need points there.
  11. Studsrud needs to get it together. He's looking very poor.
  12. Another #22 TD! Right where he left off. Go Hawks!
  13. Brady running hard! Always a good spark! Keaton is playing poor so far. He needs to take a breath and settle down.
  14. Offense needs to settle down and get into a rhythm. Caught a break with a fumble recovery!
  15. Likely these, with a nice Fighting Hawk helmet decal instead, of course.
  16. First game is always a tone setter -- just remember last year's game against Wyoming. I'm a bit nervous for this ball game. Both teams want to play the same style and Stony Brook has the homefield advantage. First games usually come down to the basics/fundamentals (blocking, tackling, turnovers, and penalties) due to limited chemistry/timing If UND plays disciplined like a veteran team, which in some aspects they are, then the Hawks should leave New York with a hard fought win. Of course, I hope for a lopsided score in UND's favor but not sure how realistic that is; will have to see this version of Bubba Ball in an actual game before judging that for future contests.

    2016 Season

Absolutely, another dandy. Hype is really building for Thursday.
  18. Schlossman references the potential personal biases of those in the committee, and with that, I figure it is appropriate to point out the possible personal biases of Schlossman and his article, as well. Obviously, women's hockey is one of the two primary sports that Schlossman covers, and with that, it is hard to imagine he can objectively assess the viability of women's hockey at UND. Yes, it would be ideal if those within the athletic department, whom Schlossman adores, could make the decisions on their own; however, the entire University of North Dakota is the ultimate sponsor for the athletic department. Furthermore, questionable decisions have been made by Faison and the department in the past, providing reason for wholesale assessment. Difficult decisions will have to be made. UND certainly over-funds some sports (relative to national average figures and potential growth models), and although there will be several disagreements during the process, the ultimate goal should be to better focus the resources. What is so wrong with using contemporary data on regional counterparts in order to formulate athletic department funding models? Sponsoring niche sports is unique, but is it really practical? How does the University of North Dakota define practical? Perhaps in growing the University's prospective student interest and current student-athlete extracurricular accomplishments, and if that's the case, then certain sports need to be further emphasized. I think it is safe to say many know which sports those are; if you are having a difficult time, look at the regional universities with similar enrollment/budget numbers as UND. It is far too early to criticize President Kennedy, in my opinion. I do appreciate and wholeheartedly agree with this statement from his letter to the UND IAC:
  19. I do not agree. Did you catch ESPN's coverage last night? Quite good for that University and football program, I'd say. How about FCS national title coverage and the Wentz coverage?
  20. I'm still hoping UND's kids play angry based on last season's playoff decision. Hoping for a surprise and a comfortable margin of victory on Thursday.
  21. Good ball game last night with NDSU and Charleston Southern. All you can ask for is a close game in the Fargodome these days and last night's game certainly delivered that. My pregame prediction was it would be another blowout for NDSU; there's not very many FCS teams that can handle the crowd noise there. Give Charleston Southern credit for playing tough.
  22. Charleston Sourhern won't be a playoff team? I disagree, although anything is possible this early.

    2016 Season

Embarrassingly poor. Im happy UND is getting their due recognition, but the research ability of some of these "media types" is questionable at best.
